24.01.2022 Despite the annus horribilis of 2020, it also has been an annus mirabilis (wonderful) for me creatively and my Beads at Sea page. I’d like to do something to celebrate that so I’m giving away a small beadset with a few prototypes. Due to the situation in the World of postage and shipping, I’m limiting this to Australia and New Zealand as it’s just too costly and insecure to ship further overseas. ... To win this set, answer me two questions. First, guess the weight in grams accurate to two decimal places and then tell me something good that happened to you this year. Really, it’s about the weight but let’s call on the good, let’s find it and make some space for it and be grateful for it. The first person who guesses The weight, wins. If nobody does pick the exact weight, I’m picking someone closest to it. Standard parcel post is included. Open till midnight Thursday the 26th, thanksgiving for our friends in the States. So I’ll announce the winner on Friday the 27th at 10 am AEST.

16.01.2022 Every year, when cyclone season gets closer, it just sneaks up on you - heat and humidity. It means It gets harder and harder to fire and dry beads. Covid has created some scarcity in glaze materials and shipping is extremely hit and miss so at present I am waiting patiently for a few colours to trickle in. Then I can squeeze in a few more firings before the big wet. As I wait, I’m not completely idle. ... I’ve been creating totems for folks who are looking for unique and meaningful gifts. Beach magic I call these, I’ve been drilling beach glass and driftwood for days. The other wood beads are from found materials, fence posts, railway sleepers, bits of demolished pubs and buildings from the outback, forests and beaches of Australia. After they are shaped, sanded and oiled, they add another component to these pieces. Each piece is one of a kind. I have several big orders but can accept a few more so please contact me.

08.01.2022 The last firing of the season! Few nice sets, odd glaze reactions from different clay bodies. And several winners in the boring Category.

05.01.2022 Holy moly, early winds and rain And a controller misbehaving have thrown my firing plans in disarray. Just a few teasers. I’ve still got several loads to fire before I have a decent amount. I’m experimenting with a soft textured waxy white base glaze, which has a lot of fine clay and some titanium to create that soft shell feel.... It reacts beautifully with oxides too. Just some copper carbonate or red iron oxide under the glaze creates lovely textures and subtle variations. Doesn’t that look like a voodoo doll with the skull, I wonder if I could make a whole abstract skeleton? Note to self - don’t get distracted!

05.01.2022 Some final Images of the last firing, I snuck one more in but it’s raining today and the wind will turn, northerlies bring moisture. These were really awesome, most made to order and one set from dregs, a small tub of glaze I keep adding to from the water I wash my brushes in.
