06.01.2022 Man dies in quad bike crash South Coast A man has died after a single-vehicle quad bike crash near Bega on the South Coast earlier today. About 10.30am (Saturday 16 January 2021) emergency services were called to Sheehans Road at Candelo, near the intersection of Towidgee Lane, after reports a quad bike had lost control and left the road before rolling several times, ejecting the rider.... Officers from South Coast Police District established a crime scene and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

06.01.2022 South Coast Police District advise: The South Coast Police District are reminding motorists to take extra care on the roads with extreme wet weather warnings forecast right across the district. Parts of the police district are forecasting up to 100mm of rainfall which will increase the danger on roads. Drivers must drive to the conditions. You need to consider reducing your speed to ensure you have enough braking distance between yourself and the vehicle in front. ... Police are also reminding drivers to not enter floodwater, or cross flooded causeways. The major cause of death during floods is by people entering floodwater. Find an alternate route and avoid unnecessary travel. There are substantial penalties for persons who disregard road closed signs or enter flood waters causing a danger to themselves or passengers. If it's flooded, don’t risk it. On too many occasions emergency services must put themselves at risk to rescue drivers who make the stupid decision to enter flood waters and then become trapped. The Police will have a zero tolerance to this behaviour and you can expect hefty fines for those that take this risk There’s also the real potential for NSW Police, Ambulance, Fire and Rescue, SES, RFS and the VRA to be roadside with their red & blue lights flashing, so if you see emergency services on the road reduce your speed.

03.01.2022 Lest we forget The poem "In Flanders Fields" by Dr John McCrae, written in 1915, is the reason that we use poppies to remember those that have died in wars. In Flanders fields... In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. John McCrae (18721918)

03.01.2022 WHAT????? Over three days, 119 random drug tests were conducted with 20 drug-affected drivers arrested as a result.!!!! This is startling to learn. Drug-affected drivers were the focus of a three-day long police operation on the far South Coast last week.... Operation Guardian was conducted by officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and South Coast Police District between Wednesday 25 November and Friday 27 November 2020. The operation targeted drivers in the Batemans Bay, Merimbula, Narooma and Eden areas. Over three days, 119 random drug tests and 122 random breath tests were conducted, with 20 drug-affected drivers arrested as a result. Twelve traffic infringement notices were issued, four people were fined for speeding, six future court attendance notices were issued, and eight vehicles were searched. South Coast Police District Commander, Superintendent Greg Moore APM, said the number of drug-affected drivers is a real cause for concern. To have twenty people test positive to drug driving is absolutely disgraceful, Supt Moore said. That’s twenty people who have made an active decision to take prohibited drugs and get behind the wheel. We are very fortunate that there were no fatalities or serious injuries as a result of this kind of behaviour.
