24.01.2022 Tonight it was time for the Bear Cave crew to come out of hibernation. Thanks for making the class team, it was great to have a room full, even if we can’t roll just yet. Can’t wait to see the rest of you soon. - Bear

23.01.2022 The last round of the first class back to contact training. These legends came out at midnight to bring the Bear Cave out of hibernation. Damn, I needed that.

23.01.2022 Great to see you Hughesdale, good to be back. Thanks for the Rolls!

21.01.2022 Melbourne friends and enemies! If you can make it to Knox this Friday I would highly recommend that you take the time to level up your chokes with one of the gentlemen of the strangulation game. Steve Henderson is a fantastic coach and has been honing this particular set of skills for years, now it’s yours for the taking. All levels and affiliations welcome, details in the link below.

21.01.2022 The first of many videos I've been working on as part of our Online Learning Program. Take them to the cave!

21.01.2022 Wednesday Night Rolls.

20.01.2022 BJJ Withdrawal As the principal instructor and owner of a BJJ Academy, I have been essentially unemployed these past five months. We are still paying rent for... our academy, but haven’t received any income - and are in the same boat as a lot of other people, across the face of this spinning marble we inhabit. It is not though, the loss of income that concerns me; it is the overly long break from a routine that I had inhabited for 40+ years till now. I miss my students faces. I miss being on the mat, teaching and being in that ‘diagnostic state’. I miss the challenge and action. I just miss it Things would have been easier if we knew with certainty, a date, at which time, we could resume training operations; but that just isn’t the case (in the state I live in). Will September be the magic month where we can come back? The fact that I cannot answer this question is the huge frustration now. I have spent time prepping a great package of re-boot class-plans - and am keen to get everyone back into it before Christmas. Unfortunately, it is up to our state premier something that is very irksome to me. Fingers crossed friends I, for one, cannot wait to see this pandemic/lockdown in the rear-view mirror.

20.01.2022 Hi everyone, this is Floor. Floor, meet everyone.

20.01.2022 Earlier this week I had the honour of presenting a couple of well earned ranks to some hardworking friends of mine in our last Hughesdale class if the year. Big congratulations to Irene on your Blue Belt, to Andy on your Purple, and also to everyone who nabbed a new stripe. Significant milestones for exceptional people. I’m so proud to have you representing us in the coloured belt ranks and look forward to another year of getting even better.

19.01.2022 Congratulations to our old friend and training buddy Matt Tatum on his promotion to 1st Degree Black Belt. Many years ago Matt was the first person I ever had the honour of awarding a blue belt to. After moving to Qld with his lovely family he continued his BJJ training, crushing a whole new community of BJJ enthusiasts with his well mannered and devastating top control game. He’s always kept in touch, and has always been proud of his Ballarat BJJ roots. Hard Earned and Well Deserved!

15.01.2022 What have you done so far with your Saturday morning? Dylan has already scored himself a podium finish! A couple of hard battles, a great experience and some lessons learned I’m sure. Best of luck to all our Bear Cave crew on the mats at Grappling Industries this weekend. Looking forward to some more results!

14.01.2022 Or it could mean that restrictions have been lifted and contact training can resume. One day...

13.01.2022 Last class of the year. Was a warm one, but we had a blast getting some hot tips on No Gi armbars from Ben, and a cool refreshing catchup after. Thanks for a great year to all my Bear Cave Crew, enjoy the break, and I’ll see you back on the mat in Jan!

13.01.2022 Hughesdale Cave comes out of hibernation Tomorrow Night!!! Can’t wait to see this pack of legends for our regular Tuesday Night rumble.

11.01.2022 Just 5 more hours until restrictions ease... see you on the mat!

10.01.2022 The Bear Cave is officially out of Hibernation! With Sappy up from Melbourne and Callum back from Horsham, we had a nice bit of representation from the other clubs as we all waited for the clock to tick through to midnight, and contact training restrictions to ease at The Ballarat Dojo. Thank you to all our members for all your love and support over the last 8 months. ... Thank you to Carley for this awesome artwork to commemorate the end of lockdown. Is that a bear back from the dead, or just HUNGRY after an extended hibernation? And thank you to this bunch of misfits who just. couldn’t. wait another second to choke someone. You’re all legends. Contact training is now back, we’re almost BAU. See you on the mat tonight!

09.01.2022 Horsham Cave back in action!

09.01.2022 Happy isoBirthday to my good friend Coach Jesse from the Horsham Cave. I look forward to getting the underhook on you in real life again soon! Bear.

08.01.2022 Congratulations to the worlds newest purple belt, Jesse McInnes. Overdue, hard earned and well deserved. What a great way to finish the year!

08.01.2022 Who’s excited about a return to contact training?!?! In just two more weeks all our hard work, patience and restraint pays off. Our restrictions on class numbers will relax, contact training will resume, and we will be looking forward to welcoming new members to our adult classes. Our cleaning, hygiene, contact tracing and mask wearing practices will remain in place, But we will be able to get back to something like the fun and awesomeness of the crew in this pic from grad...ings at the end of last year. In the meantime, book your spots for our covid safe classes this week and next, and blow out the last of those lockdown cobwebs! Thank you for your ongoing dedication and support. More details to come!

08.01.2022 Update from the Horsham Cave.

06.01.2022 I was extremely pleased for the opportunity to award Riley Fox a well overdue fourth stripe on his purple belt tonight. Riley is the exact sort of person you wa...nt on your mat, calm, welcoming, supportive of new students, and more than happy to bring the crush when required. After many years of service around the Ballarat Dojo, he’s returned to his old stomping grounds in Swan Hill. We’re sad to see him go, but pleased to have had him as part of the team. All the best brother, see you on a mat again soon. @bearcavebjj #bearcavebjj See more

03.01.2022 While our Melbourne Bear Caves are in hibernation, and our others are monitoring the situation for an impending shutdown, it’s important to maintain some momentum and motivation, any way you can!

01.01.2022 Have you been missing your long pyjamas? Been looking forward to utilising all those lapel chokes you learned from Steve Henderson a couple of months back? Well you’re in luck! As of this week we’re back to our regular scheduled Gi training program. See you and your sleeve grips tonight!
