In 2001 Alvin was awarded The Prime Minister's Award- "Community Services"- for his Work the Dole- "Beat the Drum Project" For the people that don't know the story behind Mr. Aldwyn "Alvin" Rostant who is the panmaker, tuner, music arranger and Work for the dole program co-ordinator for "Beat Of The Drum". Here is why the program is successful :) ... Born on the Island of Trinidad, Alvin Rostant was a member of the Amral's Trinidad Cavaliers Steel Band, gracing stages all over the world including USA, Canada, Sth America, Japan, Asia, South Pacific and NZ. The Cavaliers were was responsible for introducing the Australian public to the magic of the steel drum. Alvin first traveled to Australia on a world tour in 1974. Since relocating to Australia , Alvin has done countless presentations and performances at many schools, well known venues, festivals and also film and television. His pan skills are second to none but what makes Alvin the total package is his smooth vocals, engaging stage presence and an uncanny ability to read the crowd. Happy Music for Every Occasion. BIOGRAPHY and FACT SHEET Alvin Rostant From the moment Aldwyn "Alvin' Rostant was born in 1952 in the Caribban he as surrounded by music and rhythm. The islands of Trinidad and Tobago gooved to sounds of his father's band which he joined when he was only 14 years old specialising in the the steel drum. At the age of 24, Alvin immigrated to Australia after having two successful tours down under and has called Australia home ever since. He has played for some of the most high profile sporting and cultural events including Expo 88, Sydney Olympics, Orrcon Steel Band-V8 Supercar Championships, Woodfordia, West Indies Anthem MCG,SCG,Wakka, Gabba, Gold Coast Suns AFL "Mad Supporters Band" and his Movie/TV credits include Mission Impossible, Big Brother, and numerous channel test matches. Alvin has also been invited to play for the King of Nauru, as well as performing at leading destinations such as Haymans Is, Hamilton Is, Hyatt's Coolum and Sanctuary Cove, Dunk Is, Deamworld, (4yrs), Twim Water's Resort, Gladstone Boat Harbour Festival(5 yrs), Childers Multicultural Festival, and Casinos in all states and teritories. In 2001 Alvin was awarded The Prime Minister's Award- "Community Services"- for his Work the Dole- "Beat the Drum Project" Alvin founded The Caribbean Arts (and Entertainment) Company in 1993 and delighted audiences with unique sounds of the Caribbean and his unique take on the steel drum through a variety of different performances. Alvin continues to tour with the Queensland Arts Council with his Trinidad Steel Drum Workshop Peformances and The Banana Joe Show. 23.01.2022 Hey everyone in the land of Facebook! So as you should have all been aware, the markets and event did not go ahead last friday due to poor weather. So, that means that it's been rescheduled for this Friday(Tomorrow)!! BoTD band will be kicking off at 5.30pm Tomorrow evening at the Robelle Domain Springfield stage followed by The Rivercity Steelband and finishing with Jah'Butu!! It will be a great evening and there are markets on as well so lots of yummy food and great things to buy! This will be our final performance and would be great to get as many people out to show the interest in the program :D :D Hope you all have a wonderful Thursday and we all hope to see you there at 5.30pm tomorrow!
