20.01.2022 Due to the current outbreak of COVID and the fact that contract tracing efforts have now reached Jimboomba, I have decided to shut down the Den for the next two weeks ( as a minimum). Members who still wish to use the facilities are asked to please remember others who may be in after you and please sign in and observe hygiene practices. Please remain safe and Stay Potty - Carly Pescott- President
20.01.2022 Due to many requests, and the difficulties experienced in trying to source second hand copies, we are reprinting Glazes for Australian Potters. To determine jus...t what form it will be reprinted in, we are trying to get an idea of the extent of interest in it. It is not a new edition, but a reprint of the original- however there will be included a table of recommended substitutions to use when a particular material is no longer available. If you are interested, could you register that ‘no obligation’ interest by using the link below. We can then contact you when it is available. See more

09.01.2022 What’s in a bowl? Well that depends it’s usage, design and decoration. Bowls have been made by humans for-thousands of years. Very early bowls have been found in Ancient Greece,Crete, China and from Native American cultures. In Ancient Greece common forms where including phiales and pateras, and bowl-shaped cups called kylices were used. Phiales were used for libations and included a small dent in the center for the bowl to be held with a finger, although one source indicate...s that these were used to hold perfume rather than wine. In many cultures, food and drink are shared in a communal bowl or cup.In Mali, the name of the town of Bandiagara ,refers to the communal bowl meals are served in. The name translates roughly to "large eating bowl.. This months challenge was for members to create a bowl, either wheel thrown, hand built , mould or coil. The winner will be announced next month. Take care and have a wonderful weekend all!
