25.01.2022 Local fire ban for South East Region residents Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) has imposed a local fire ban for South East Region residents. The local fire ban will be in place from 00:01am Wednesday 23 September for residents in the Logan, Scenic Rim, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley and Somerset local government areas.... Conditions are perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly. Under a local fire ban all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated areas have been cancelled. Power tools may be used during a local fire ban however QFES encourages people to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start. This may include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur. The ban is expected to remain in place until 11:59pm Saturday 26 September. Information on fire bans and the exemptions that can apply can be found on the RFS website, www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au.

24.01.2022 Beaudesert State High School Awards Night and Formal The Beaudesert Bulletin was fortunate to be able to take photos at the Beaudesert State High School Awards Night and also at the Golf Club for formal arrivals. I've had a couple of enquiries via Beaudesert State High School about photos from these two events.... We are primarily a print publication but I know parents are eager to have copies of photos from both of these events. I will post them on Facebook and our web site on 4th December 2020, once the print publication is out. Unfortunately we are a small team and we are concentrating on getting the next edition ready, we will be running as many of the formal photos as we can. I'm also working hard to match up the students with names provided on lists by the school. If you wanted to enquire about photos of your student, please feel free to email [email protected] and put BSHS Awards Night or BSHS Formal in the subject line. I may not be able to respond until after the print publication is completed but I will do the best I can. Thank you all in advance for your patience. Keer Moriarty Editor

23.01.2022 Hard day at the office. At Beaudesert Race Club.

23.01.2022 A Unique Country Show Day If there was ever a day to show Beaudesert needs to retain its country heritage, today was the day. The SEQ All Breeds Spring Show at Beaudesert Showground was nothing short of a delight. This is a quintessential Australian experience that brought together farmers from across South East Queensland.... Social distancing isn't much of a problem for farmers, most of them have been doing it all their lives; but event organiser Rodney Teese had all the COVID protocols in place to ensure the safety of competitors and sponsors. On what traditionally would have been the first day of the Beaudesert Show, judging took place at the Showground with one ring operating for all cattle and classes running from 9am until 11.30am. Dairy Chief Steward for Beaudesert Show, Leanne Teese was on hand to assist and said normally there would have been three rings operating with milk classes running from Wednesday night. Watching the sleek coats and full udders of the cows shown today, it is hard to imagine this industry is doing it so tough, but of course they have been for many years. The number of dairy farms seems to shrink from year to year, and yet these men and women, resilient before the rest of us had to become resilient, present the most outstanding animals. Of course, I know just enough about cattle to get myself into trouble, so I incorrectly call the black and white ones 'Fresians' when they actually 'Holsteins'. From here on in I think I'll just call them cows, or maybe cattle. Or maybe I'll just keep quiet. So, while the sound of the rides and the noise of the loudspeakers was missing, at least there were a few who were able to enjoy competing. For those of us who managed to step in a the gifts the cows leave, we walked out a little taller than we were when we walked in. For an introvert like me, it was the perfect Show - a mix of country atmosphere; Aussie banter and cattle, or cows. Still, bring on the 2021 Beaudesert Show. Can't wait.

06.01.2022 Join in the celebration of BADCAP’s First Anniversary at their Open House weekend in December. It’s a year since BADCAP (Beaudesert and District Community Arts Projects) became the new co-lessee of the Stationmaster House at 100 Brisbane Street, Beaudesert. Members would like to invite everyone to join them in celebrating the occasion on Saturday & Sunday, 5 & 6 December. Their Christmas Makers’ Market will also be launched where Christmas gifts galore will be available to bu...y. BADCAP, long-time organisers of Arts in the Olives festival and two major sculpture symposia, were more recently invited to manage the workshops and market stalls at Arts Ablaze at Kooralbyn. With their new home at 100 Brisbane Street, they were invisaging more workshops, art exhibitions, artists-in-residencies, arts demonstrations more often. Covid-19 halted many plans but now with restrictions easing, BADCAP would like to invite everyone to celebrate on the first weekend in December. Their members, who all have artistic passion are also pretty creative themselves, will have their individual skills on show. Along with a variety of activities for all ages on Saturday and Sunday (such as Raku firing, candle making, Softie Sew-In, making Christmas decorations) there are two major workshops Playing with Mono Prints with Sandra Pearce (Saturday 5th 9.30am-12.30pm $60) and Twined Basket with Therese Flynn-Clarke (Sunday 6th 9am-12pm $60). Both workshops require bookings. The Christmas Makers’ Market proved very successful last year so it’s back with items for sale in time for Christmas. There will be paintings, sculptures, prints, ceramics, jewellery, basketry, string bags, retro clothing, along with Christmas gift wrapping to beautify any unique gifts purchased. No-one will want to miss Alaine’s delicious Fruit Delights which will be available to purchase from midday on the Saturday nor the free drumming circle from 5.30pm to 7.00pm later in the day. Sunday sees Rotary serving up their delicious breakfasts with an essential coffee cart alongside. More details of all the events and workshop bookings can be obtained on the BADCAP website: badcap.org

06.01.2022 I walked in the door this afternoon and Hubby says Can I help you Oh its my wife. As we are nearing closer to Christmas, gifts are now being distributed to... the staff at the nursing homes / aged care homes for distribution on Christmas Day. The gifts have been nothing short of amazing and so much love and thought has gone into them But it is not just that. Many of you who have contributed have had your own battles this year. There have been challenges, changes and of course COVID to negotiate as well as some still recovering from the result of the fires of 2019 / 2020. Many who are part of this Christmas drive have helped and donated to the Fires of 2019 / 2020, some have sewn for what appears to be 18 months straight from Joey pouches to scrub caps and masks and now busy blankets and fidget sleeves. Your gifts have already spread joy to the staff at the aged care facilities; the most common comment is This has made our Christmas. The staff shared how hard it has been on their residents, but we know how hard it has been on them too. On Christmas Day most of these residents will relive the excitement of their younger years waking up on Christmas morning. They have no idea what awaits them on Christmas Day because of you. And we haven’t finished yet .. We are still doing deliveries. We have posted 11 gifts to a Bundaberg, 10 Gifts to Townsville and combined 14 gifts to two Brisbane Care facilities. We are up to 18 Aged Care homes with one joining just today; but with the number of gift bags and hampers we have and have coming in; I am aiming at hitting 20 facilities for 2020 And to the Communities of The Scenic Rim; including Tamborine Mountain, Canungra and Surrounds, Beaudesert and Jimboomba) The Gold Coast and individuals in Bundy, Townsville and Brisbane who have jumped on to make this simple act of love happen and on behalf of the residents and staff at Care Homes; Thank you .. And to my husband tonight, I promise to be in bed before midnight and have our lounge room back to normal soon PS More pics to come - they just need the right approval ..
05.01.2022 LEARN WHAT TO SAY AFTER R U OK? WITH RELEASE OF INTERACTIVE VIDEO FOR R U OK?DAY 2020 R U OK?Day is today, Thursday 10 September, and this year R U OK? is encouraging Australians to learn what to say if someone in their life says they are not OK. R U OK? has launched an interactive role play video to add to a suite of free digital resources designed to build the confidence and skills of Australians so they can navigate a conversation with someone in their life who might be st...ruggling. This year R U OK?Day coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day which will focus further attention on the role that each of us can play in suicide prevention efforts. R U OK? CEO, Katherine Newton says 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected. "In the words of our late founder, Gavin Larkin, R U OK?Day is a day to think about someone other than yourself and, if you are well and able, be willing to support those around you who might be struggling, said Ms Newton. But we also acknowledge that sometimes you might feel a little uncomfortable or awkward if someone says they’re not okay. That’s an understandable reaction and it’s why this year we’re reminding Australians there’s more to say after R U OK? and encouraging them to learn what to say next, said Ms Newton. It’s important we know how to keep the conversation going because a conversation really can change a life. The R U OK?Day interactive short film is now live at www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask Alongside the interactive short film, R U OK? 2020 has developed and collaborated with others to deliver a host of free digital assets and virtual experiences including ‘Ask the Experts’ videos that share conversation tips, an ‘Australia at Home’ free live webinar, video messages for schools, workplaces and community groups, as well as a range of social media and out of home activations, virtual and in-person presentations by Community Ambassadors around Australia and downloadable information kits. Thousands of COVID safe or virtual activities will also be hosted by suicide prevention networks, social and sports clubs, community groups, workplaces and schools across the nation to mark this national day of action. ‘There’s more to say after R U OK?’ Learn what to say next at www.ruok.org.au

03.01.2022 A Step Closer to Saving Beaudesert's Pig and Calf Saleyards "On 12 November 2020 the delegate for the Chief Executive of the Department of Environment and Science (the Department) recommended to the Heritage Council that the Beaudesert Pig & Calf Saleyard be entered in the Heritage Register as a State Heritage Place.... The Heritage Council has 60 business days (100 business days with owner consent or if a heritage response is made) from the heritage recommendation date to decide whether a place is or is not entered in the Heritage Register. The Heritage Council has the discretion to make a decision which differs from the Department's heritage recommendation." This is the next step in the preservation of the Historical Saleyards in Beaudesert. This is not the final part of this process: "Under the Queensland Heritage Act 1992, you may request to make an oral representation to the Heritage Council (either in person or via teleconference) about the heritage recommendation. It is anticipated the Heritage Council will hear any oral representations in response to the Department’s heritage recommendation at its meeting to be held on 4 December 2020. A request to make an oral representation should be made on the enclosed form and must be received no later than 26 November 2020." Thank you to everyone who made submissions to the Department and continue to advocate to save the last part of this complex. The rural aspect of Beaudesert is important to those who live here and to visitors to the town. Photo credit: Lee Willis
