24.01.2022 Salvia 'Purple Majesty' looks very similar to 'Black Knight' but only grows to 1.5m high, making it more amenable to smaller gardens. Rich deep purple flowers on long stems sit atop deep green foliage. Dry tolerant once established but repeat blooms more reliably with a modicum of water over the hot weather. Will flower through winter as well!! What's not to love. In 14cm pots for $15.

24.01.2022 If you like something a bit different, check out Eryngium agaviifolium. Long stems of white flowers early summer make for great additions to flower arrangements or leave to enjoy the brown seed heads. Personally the foliage does it for me; reminiscent of a saw toothed agave, it looks spikey but is totally safe. Plant it somewhere in afternoon shade to keep the foliage looking fab during the really hot weather. In 140mm pots at the garden centre.

23.01.2022 SOLD OUT FOR AUTUMN. Echium 'Blue Dwarf' is a smaller growing candicans cultivar, reaching only 1.2mH X 1.5mW. Terrific for smaller gardens, it is as tough and dry tolerant as the species. All plants are seed grown and in stock now.

23.01.2022 We are all stocked up again with vegePods and stands after selling out during Armageddon!! If you're tired of snails, slugs, slaters, sketchy rats and sneaky pets eating your produce, the vegepod will show them you're smarter. Get the goodies off the ground and enjoy some home grown healthiness. Small, medium and large available in pods. Phone 9271 0585 for enquiries

22.01.2022 Tanacetum ptarmiciflorum is a fantastic silver foliage shrub to 1m high and wide, with cute white daisy flowers in summer. Grow this more for its foliage plus heat and dry tolerance. As it matures the foliage colour takes on more silvery whiteness, giving a fabulous luminescence to the plant. A great addition to the low water garden. In stock in 14cm pots.

22.01.2022 A photo from a very happy customer who has undertaken the hard task of making over their verge. Previously a parking spot, the verge baked in summer with heavily compacted soil and remnants of couch lawn that tenaciously clung to life despite the nuclear attacks launched at it. A revamp with tough natives and exotics has improved their 'curb appeal' and now the only parking is from local bird life. Plants from us: Beaufort Garden Centre (except grass tree), hard work, sweat, swearing and maintenance by owner. Come by for a chat if you fancy achieving something like this!!

21.01.2022 Some of the new pot range in store .... Your plants will love them. Open 9am - 5pm, every day.

21.01.2022 In stock now is Brugmansia Sugared Almond, a peach flowering cultivar that throws flower doubles and triples. Only 3 Brugmansia sanguinea remain for those who haven't got one of these yet. 19.01.2022 SOLD OUT Iochroma grandiflora is a relative of Brugmansia and is one of the largest flowering Iochromas. With stunning BLUE flowers, yep that's right, blue flowers, it is in flower for most of the year. Large felty leaves help to make this a great screening plant or a specimen plant in a pot. Best pruned hard in winter or tip prune throughout the growing season to manage size and shape. $18 each.

19.01.2022 More peperomia and rhipsalis in stock ... looking cute

19.01.2022 Lepechinia hastata, false sage grows to 1.5m with tubular, burgundy flowers reminiscent of Salvia flowers. The mint scented foliage is lovely for aromatic and child friendly gardens, plus it's an easy plant to grow in Perth. Great for back of the border positions or screening the fence/neighbours sunbaking in Speedos/the cats' toilet. Available now in 175mm pots.

18.01.2022 Viburnum opulus, the snowball bush, is one of those innocuous shrubs that becomes the star of the garden in spring. Covered in ginormous balls of white flowers, it's mecca for bees, hoverflies, some butterflies and humans! All our advanced plants have sold but there is still a few small plants left in 14cm pots for $15.

17.01.2022 It's a bit chilly this morning but I always feel warmer looking at gardens enjoying the summer warmth elsewhere. Some lovely gardens from members of various Mediterranean climate gardening groups. Enjoy!

17.01.2022 This link is thanks to Saxon Holt. It's interesting to read how plants are evaluated for their water hardiness at David University in California. And that they found some plants you would expect need ample moisture, actually do just as well on low water! Food for thought https://www.pacifichorticulture.org//the-quest-for-the-be/

17.01.2022 If you're getting into Phlomis, got some rocky or clay ridden soil we've got a tidy selection of various coloured phlomis that thrive in tough conditions. Purpurea, Lemon Blush, fruticosa, Edward Bowles, Le Sud, samia and maybe one or two Alba are kicking around at the garden centre. Or phone us on 92710585.

16.01.2022 Bartletinna sordida, purple mist plant, is still a favourite for the stunning early spring flowers. Large, matt dark green leaves contrast with the burgundy stems on a shrubby plant hailing from cloud forest regions in Mexico. Perfect for a dappled shade to early morning sun position. 1.5mH x 1.0mW.

16.01.2022 The beauty of grasses in the morning. Add some to your garden!

15.01.2022 Brugmansia!! WARNING: Don't eat them, smoke them, feed them to the kids or dog, stick them up your nose. 13.01.2022 Nicotiana knightiana flowers for such a long period of time it's hard to find a moment to prune it back!! But a good hard prune keeps it bushy and the large, velvet grey leaves looking fab. Tough, dry tolerant and perennial. Currently in stock.

12.01.2022 Crambe maritima or sea kale is a tough ornamental kale that doesn't mind it dry. Grows well in sand with some summer water. Mounding large glaucus blue-grey leaves, are eye-catching and make a great contrast to finer foliage plants and grasses. Sprays of white flowers in summer are a further bonus. Evergreen, perennial and first tolerant. Available in 140mm pots.

12.01.2022 Winter flowering kniphofia give a pop of colour when things are a bit quiet in the garden, plus they don't get the untidy foliage after flowering that besets their summer flowering counterparts. Super easy to grow, just give them plenty of sun and a location to shine in winter! Limited numbers available now.

11.01.2022 Grasses have been popular lately in the garden centre, with gardeners appreciating the seasonality and movement they bring to the garden. While the Miscanthus and Calamagrostis have had their winter haircut, Stipa, Pennisetum, Carex and Festuca look good year round. A bit of a comb through or rough up with the rake will pull out their spent foliage and get them looking fab for spring. Why not try one in your garden!

Brilliant for shady locations it has large velvet like leaves (hence the common name velvet groundswell), and grows quickly into a shrub up to 3m tall if unpruned!! I prune it hard after it flowers in winter with ginormous inflorescences of yellow daisy flowers. Tough, easy care with a modicum of water over summer. Well worth reintroducing to your shade garden!

04.01.2022 Limonium peregrinum, pink statice. Dry tolerant and extremely hardy, this species has a smaller leaf which makes it suitable for working amongst other plants. I have it planted with spring flowering Achillea and they make contented bedfellows, with similar water requirements. Pink statice is currently available in 14cm pots.
