02.01.2022 Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) is a common injury among runners that leads pain on the outside of the knee. It is caused by an increase in training, as well as poor movement control and weakness of different muscle groups. ITBS has long been treated with foam rolling to stretch the ITB, however we now know it has the same tensile strength as steel and cannot be stretched. ITBS should initially be managed with rest from aggravating activities and icing the area. Once pain settles a physiotherapist can prescribe exercises that help strengthen weak muscles and correct movement control to prevent the pain returning. #running #injury #beaumaris #active

02.01.2022 Spring is here and that means its time for spring-cleaning! Unfortunately the heavy lifting, scrubbing and other jobs can be difficult on the back. Here are some tips to avoid injuring your back whilst cleaning: Take it slow! The repetitive bending and lifting that you don’t normally do is a recipe for injury. Split up your jobs. For example try to separate your mopping/vacuuming with an activity that takes you out of that bent over position.... Get a family member or friend to help with heaving lifting just because you can lift a heavy couch, doesn’t mean you should. If you are sorting out a cupboard or boxes try to place all of your items on a bench or higher surface to avoid unnecessary repetitive bending. Rest and do some stretches between tasks. See more
