19.01.2022 Just edging past the date when Port Phillip becomes cooler than Bass Strait - typically in the second week of May. Means the northerlies can hang in there just a little longer, with little chance of an ocean breeze. baywx.com.au/temps.html

19.01.2022 The count down is on for the AGM tonight.

18.01.2022 Exercising with someone from outside your household in Metro Melbourne under Step 2. It is important to note, that while you may exercise with someone from anot...her household (max 5 people) within 5km of your home and for 2 hours. You must keep the 1.5 meter social distancing 100% of the time. So while we are under step 2 this means that double-handed dinghy sailing with someone from outside your house hold is NOT permitted. It would also be extremely difficult to sail any vessel without keeping the 1.5 meters distance 100% of the time. Hopefully we will be in step 3 very soon, whereby sailing will open up as a sport once more. Many thanks for your understanding, Australian Sailing

18.01.2022 Finally! The last batch of photos from the 2019-20 Season have just gone up. Head to the Photos tab to check them out.

18.01.2022 ATTENTION: Cancellation of the remainder of the 2019/20 BYC season Dear members,... Last night the BYC committee voted unanimously to cancel all Club activities and functions for the remainder of the 2019-20 season, effective immediately. This includes all racing, Tackers, Learn to Sail programs, canteen, bar, presentation and the AGM. This is difficult for me to write, to my knowledge this is the first time in our Clubs history that this action has been taken. However the state, national, and international COVID-19 situation is deteriorating rapidly, and the health and well being of our members and the wider community must be our highest priority. The social distancing measures that are recommended for all situations, and especially those in indoor situations would have made our usual activities difficult. These measures are only likely to tighten as the number of infections grows, making operating our club even harder, if not impossible. I understand this news will be disappointing, if not unexpected. Believe me, I am just as disappointed as you. To be ending BYCs 70th season and my final season as Commodore not with a bang but a whimper is not ideal, however these are the cards we have been dealt, and together we will weather this storm. Current modelling suggests the COVID-19 outbreak will peak in Australia in late June, and if this holds true it should mean we can start our next season as normal. Certainly, this is the assumption the committee will be working under unless more information comes to light. The next few months will bring great uncertainty, anxiety and stress to many of us. I ask that in these times the BYC family bands together wherever possible. It is almost inevitable that some of us will end up contracting this virus, or at the very least in isolation due to being exposed to it. If this occurs, perhaps consider offering to go to the shops to collect supplies or offering to help in other ways. Items can be left at the front door or in prearranged locations to limit exposure. Social distancing and physical isolation do not have to mean we maroon each other and have no contact at all. Many of us have large networks of family and friends who we can call on in times of need, however for those of us who dont, the next few months may prove more challenging that we can imagine. Lets stick together and look after each other. Beaumaris Yacht Club has been here since 1950, and you can bet well be here again in October 2020, ready to go. Regards, Will Sharp | Commodore | Beaumaris Yacht Club Inc. ________________________________________________ The Foreshore, Ricketts Point, Beaumaris

16.01.2022 Hi there Beaumaris-sans sailing. Sorry all that joke was probably rubbing sea-salt into the wound. If you are bored and missing sailing, while Captain Holt has a great idea for a game with the fam, we have a list of top 3 sailing related movies/tv shows on Netflix right now. 1. Maiden (a movie about skipper Tracy Edwards and her all female crew woohoo ) 2. Adrift (slightly darker and may actually get you to question whether you should jump aboard) 3. Below Deck (A REALITY SHOW ABOUT WORKING ON A YACHT - yessss the rest of lockdown is sorted now)

16.01.2022 Good morning Long Beach Group of Sailing Clubs, Given the current situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, Beaumaris Yacht Club has made the difficult decis...ion to cancel the Long Beach Regatta scheduled for this Sunday. Sporting codes around the country are in the process of cancelling or significantly curtailing their operations, and major events nationwide are being cancelled left, right and centre. While sailing is different to many sports in that it is predominantly conducted outside and in semi-isolation, there are still times during regattas when we need to come together in large numbers: such as information sessions and presentation functions. These aspects could be modified however once we get to that point we are implicitly acknowledging that we know there are risks and are choosing to run the event regardless. There is also a significant PR angle we need to consider. To run a large, inter-club event in the shadow of a global pandemic while events are being cancelled all around us looks dismissive and arrogant. This is not a sailing stereotype we should be looking to reinforce. This is a situation which is changing hourly, and is likely to get much worse before it gets better. Rather than postpone the decision until Thursday, we thought it would be better to make the decision eary so we all have some clarity for the rest of the week. I know this decision won't please everyone, some of you will think we are being overly cautious, and others will think we have waited too long, but at the end of the day the health and safety of the participants, and the future of the event itself should take precedence. As the COVID-19 crisis is clearly beyond the control of any of us, I hope we can count on your support to host the Long Beach Regatta in 2021, away from the spectre of a global health emergency. BYC will contact those who have entered to inform them of the cancellation, however we would appreciate it if you can all put the word out at your respective clubs and pass on our reasons for cancelling. Regards, Will Sharp | Commodore | Beaumaris Yacht Club Inc. and the Long Beach Group of Sailing Clubs.

13.01.2022 And were off! Tackers 1 starts today at BYC

13.01.2022 Thanks to everyone for coming to the Covid style AGM last night!

12.01.2022 Like our tackers we are ready to hit the ground running, with BYC back from this Sunday 29th November 2020. There are a few rules we need to follow to return to our beloved sport and club, safely and responsibly. 1. The BYC COVID Safe Plan is a must read document for everyone returning to the club, it hit your inbox last night. 2. If you feel unwell at all, are awaiting a Covid-19 Test result or have come into contact with someone with the virus, you must remain at home. 3. A...ll attendees to BYC must enter through the main pedestrian door on the southern end of the building. Then everyone is to sanitize their hands and register, with either the QR code or paper and pen. 4. Masks that cover both your nose and mouth must be worn indoors and outside where social distancing is not possible. 5. Avoid touching surfaces in the club, hands to be washed after touching any common surfaces. Remember the canteen is closed for the time being so its BYO lunch for a little while. For more specific guidelines regarding restricted areas and capacities please refer to the BYC COVID safe plan PDF. See more
