19.01.2022 Sugar. Craving that sugar fix and including it in your calories? Well think again, at least regularly anyway (theres alway room for a treat).... Added sugar is bad for your health and has harmful effects on your metabolic health. Excess amounts of fructose is proven by numerous studies to build up fat around your abdomen and liver. Sugar is 50% glucose and 50% fructose, when the liver gets overloaded with fructose, it is then forced to turn into fat. Liquid sugar is the worst. Your brain doesnt seem to register liquid calories in the same way as solid calories, so when you drink a sugary drink, you will not register you are any fuller from the calories. Keep yourself accountable daily. Maintain a healthy #nutrition plan. Having #goals is great, but writing them down is even better, this helps remind you why youre going to the gym, which is the reason for starting and key for staying motivated - Beaut clients - goto your beaut bodies app/select files and open the Goal Setting form you filled out when you signed up. Measuring #progress is vital so you can make adjustments, also to see how far youve come. As your body changes very little on a daily basis you may fail to see progress, even though you are. Progress photos and measurements at regular intervals are the best way to measure your efforts. Weight can fluctuate based on hydration, times of the day and other factors - Beaut clients - goto your beaut bodies app/hub/add progress photo and update metrics or login to the web app/Results to see your progress charts. Smart watches are a great way to keep you motivated day by day, they track your movement, workouts and calories burned. Your health and quality time on this planet is being stolen, more often than you realise. Every once in a while procrastination is acceptable. Sometimes our minds wonder to other things, worries or day dreams, zoning out every so often is good for your mental state.... It does become an issue when we continuously give in to this time wasting habit, as you will feel its overwhelming effects. Social media has made matters worse, wasting hours per day achieving absolutely nothing during your most productive hours; save it for a set chill out time. If you feel like youre losing time in your day and dont have time to get to the gym or organise proper foods, then you need to reassess how youre wasting your time. Below is an activity that will help you to determine how you spend your precious time on a daily basis. This requires quite a bit of discipline to complete, but you will never get to your goal without discipline and dedication. Do this for a few days, youll be amazed at how much time you are throwing away that could be spent physically improving your health (be honest). Every time you get distracted by things that are a complete waste of time, jot it down in your phone or on paper with how long, even things like a task taking 60 mins but should take 30 mins due to procrastination/daydreaming. 12.01.2022 . Wide grip row Compound rows are two of the best back exercises for making the back both thicker/toned and wide, creating that V shaped body that both male and females are looking for.... Wide grip rows focus more on the upper back and include more of the trapezoid, rhomboid and rear deltoid muscles. It of course works the latissimus dorsi as well, but incorporates other muscles to a larger degree than the narrow grip row. This is great for building a thick upper back. What he didn’t do: smashed the same body parts day after day in the gym. eat whatever he felt like, trying to out train a bad diet (all calories are not equal).... follow some random internet guys plan coz it worked for him. gave up when he felt like he couldn’t be bothered, motivation will fade, structure and discipline then needs to take over. What he did do. follow a well designed plan and ate well following a scientifically proven system. ate foods he liked to stop boredom. measured progress to keep accountable. 07.01.2022 Youre getting your #workouts done, smashing yourself, soaked to bone with sweat, mission accomplished each week . This is all well and good if #fitness and heart health is your goal (which it should always be). However, if weight loss/ #toning and artery health is also your #goal (at least one of these should be), you need to sort out your nutrition game too, otherwise all that effort is wasted to a degree. Science repeatedly backs up this claim. A recent study published by... Plos One followed members of a hunter-gatherer tribe in Northern Tanzania. Researchers obtained physical activity, metabolic and nutrition data and compared it with the average Jack and Jill who indulge in the common Western diet. What they found was that the tribe members are comparable in every way except for their nutrition habits. Rather than the #fat and #calorie -laden diets we typically enjoy, they eat only whole, natural foods. Basically, you can keep running 5Ks or Sweating your guts out, but chances are high that results will be disappointing unless you change WHAT and how much youre eating. 06.01.2022 Throwback Thursday. It was a year ago that I just got back from Vegas and the INBA/PNBA Natural Olympia, what a journey. I got thinking about that journey and thought it might be worth taking it back a bit further.... Throughout my childhood I was swimming competitively 4 x a week, this led to part time pool and gym work at a leisure centre while I was at college then into PT. My serious gym training started in the late 80’s among intimidating guys with 22 inch biceps (a lot was learned talking to these guys who already had decades of training knowledge), this was about the time I started feeling pretty ill, to be diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, I made some pretty decent gains considering everything I was eating wasn’t being processed by my body too well. I was what we used to call a hard gainer little results considering the effort you have to put in. Each time I started seeing results, along came another serious relapse and gains gone, in the end I gave up training myself, this lasted 22 years with no training! When I was 47 I turned back to the Iron, consistency has meant I stand as I do today, the first time in 53 years I feel comfortable in my skin, up to then always seeking to not be skinny. Consistency doesn’t mean sacrificing all stuff you enjoy, it means keep grinding, ensuring you are doing things in and out of the gym that fits your lifestyle and commitments. My only regret is stopping for 22 years, check back in withe me in 22 years time.

Don’t be too keen to smash yourself into oblivion doing cardio, training your heart out listening to Rocky or Chariots of Fire, that just ain’t going to cut it. You’ve heard of over training and also getting rest, what does that actually mean? It doesn’t mean feeling tired and sore and not going to gym because you trained yesterday; you may as well give up now if you’re not going to push yourself to go.... Put simply recovery is like a cut, when it’s healing if you keep scraping the scab of with sandpaper it will take forever to heal and you will get a bigger scar. Your muscles get microtears and inflammation when you train, then they recover. Keep training the same muscles everyday and you will not repair properly, you’ll lose weight but your physique will suffer. Why is resistance training important for weight loss ? Enter the techie bit and EPOC. In a 1992 Purdue study, results showed that high intensity, anaerobic type exercise resulted in a significantly greater magnitude of EPOC than aerobic exercise of equal work output. Most researchers use a measure of EPOC as a natural part of the quantification or measurement of exercise and recovery energy expenditure; to others this is not deemed necessary. After a single bout or set of weight lifting, Scott et al. found considerable contributions of EPOC to total energy expenditure.In their 2004 survey of the relevant literature, Meirelles and Gomes found: "In summary, EPOC resulting from a single resistance exercise session (i.e., many lifts) does not represent a great impact on energy balance; however, its cumulative effect may be relevant". This is echoed by Reynolds and Kravitz in their survey of the literature where they remarked: "the overall weight-control benefits of EPOC, for men and women, from participation in resistance exercise occur over a significant time period, since kilocalories are expended at a low rate in the individual post-exercise sessions." 03.01.2022 . Do you rush straight home after a workout? Cooling down 3-10 mins after a workout is proven to allow your heart rate and breathing to return to normal and to promote relaxation. The best way to measure whether you have cooled down effectively is purely based on common sense if you feel your heart rate has reduced, thats enough. If you wear a heart rate monitor, that will also tell you once your heart rate has returned to normal. ...
