Burmese Rubies command, at times, quite astonishing prices for their size; in 2015 a 26 carat Burmese Ruby sold for an astounding 30 million dollars. Spessartite or Spessartine, depending on who you talk to, is a variety of Garnet highly prized for its bright Orange and Red-Orange hues. It is primarily found in Africa, chiefly from Nigeria. As with all Garnets, it is quite a dense stone, so the carat weight goes up quite quickly as the dimensions increase. Spessartites range in colo...ur from a sunburst Yellow, to an even bright Orange, to a deep, rich Red-Orange almost like the dying embers of a fire. This is a variety of Quartz from Tanzania, known as Strawberry Quartz. Much like Confetti Sunstone, the red platelets within the material are Ferrous (Iron) particles.
