17.01.2022 Hand woven textiles are something I enjoy, we carry quite a few products made by families dotted about making their living by their skill, and what is produced from the natural world. Hand weavers are almost a culture apart, the whole family is involved and usually the skills are passed from generation to generation. Today I wanted to share my appreciation of what is made by them. We should be paying them more than is asked. I always pay what is requested if I think it can be sold at a reasonable profit. Just a few glimpses here for you to enjoy!
15.01.2022 A few seconds of the machines, these have to be tended carefully....without the skilled human handling them, things would go awfully wonky! We also have many people producing on pit looms! But this is a semi automated loom.
14.01.2022 Kevin McCloud live! Wow! I have just been in Melbourne at Hamer Hall attending Kevin McCloud’s live show. It was most inspiring to hear him and then he started to talk about textiles; where they come from - how for example in Bangladesh a woman might walk for days to work for very little in a factory turning out polyester cushions for very little money - the cushions that decor shops sell in the latest trend colours - things that have very little meaning and could well be d...iscarded when fashions change - the product going to landfill. And how all of that is a yuck process. That’s so different he points out from the good feeling you get when you have something that you know the source of. For instance the hand woven locally made textile merino wool cushions he commissioned recently. (And I am lucky enough to have a friend who weaves exquisite tea towels - he is right- I get a tingle of goodness every time I handle one if her lovingly made long lasting cloths). The great connection he feels with something good every time he uses the cushions he and the designer worked out. Things fir life! I noticed the background of any visual was a beautiful linen..... Thankyou Kevin it was a special afternoon for us! See more
