25.01.2022 With so few COVID-19 cases in Western Australia, life is returning to a new normal and that means classes are resuming at Tresillian Arts Centre next term. My favourite Friday morning class is back from July 31 and we have some spaces! If you are based in Perth and would like to learn some new stitches or just keep working on your own projects in a warm and friendly environment, we would love to have you join us. I’ll put the link to booking details in the comments.

25.01.2022 Another block finished. It’s hard for a photo to capture the effect of the corner blocks on this one. I’ve worked them in just one strand and they have an almost translucent quality which really makes the central motif pop. I’m really happy with it

23.01.2022 I'm very excited to let you know that I have just uploaded a new free pattern for you on my website, Summer Fireworks. It's a companion to Autumn Fireworks which I know many of you have worked already. Also, I've created a stitch video to walk you through two of the trickier stitches in the design. The link to the video is in the comments. Happy stitching :) http://beautifulstitches.com.au//Summer-Fireworks-Notes.pdf

23.01.2022 I think it’s finished!

22.01.2022 Day 3 - layers of colour. I’m having so much fun on the second version of this one! It was definitely the right decision

22.01.2022 Catching up fast

21.01.2022 Filling in is going well. There has been a little bit of reversing, but not enough to make me grumpy

21.01.2022 I’ve just stopped for lunch so thought I would just gaze at this wistfully in the winter sun..... because I’m not allowed to start stitching until my business chores are finished for the day!

20.01.2022 I absolutely love it when students send me photos of their finished work. It makes all the hours spent on writing notes and charts worthwhile This divine version of Dragonflies in the Garden is from Glenys. Hasn’t she done a beautiful job!

20.01.2022 Sometimes it’s the tiny details that make all the difference. This triangle motif is subtly transformed by the addition of a row of backstitch in a neutral tone.

20.01.2022 I thought this was a bow tie....but then through the camera lens all I can see is two fish kissing! It must be time for bed

18.01.2022 Very close! I’ve got a little bit more filling to go, but will save it for fresh eyes tomorrow

18.01.2022 I’ve worked quite a few big designs this year, so I’ve given myself permission to play with something smaller for a while. This is the first of four square panels that I hope to make into a miniature, decorative screen. Fingers crossed that the vision in my head materialises

18.01.2022 Getting closer to a finish. Just need to work on filling in the little gaps :)

17.01.2022 I’m taking a pretty unusual step for me tonight. I’m abandoning the piece in the foreground and restarting it. Usually I stick with a piece and find work around solutions to any problems I encounter along the way. However this piece has been somewhat stalled for ages. I picked it up last night and started to fall in love with it again, but it feels like some of my borders are in the wrong place. I tried doing some reverse stitching to move them, but could see that it was just going to end up ruining the fabric and the existing stitching. So, I took a deep breath this morning and decided to go with the restart option. It feels like it will be worth the extra effort

16.01.2022 I’m packing thread orders this morning. I love seeing what glorious colour selections people make! I hope they have as much fun opening them as I do packing them

14.01.2022 I finally got around to attaching these pieces to a secondhand denim jacket! I know what I’m wearing to my favourite Friday class tomorrow

11.01.2022 That’s almost a record for me. Made up the day after finishing the embroidery!

11.01.2022 What a lovely way to start my week! I’m calling this one finished Now for the making up...

08.01.2022 It’s done!! What a lovely way to start my weekend. Hope you enjoy yours too, wherever you are in the world

07.01.2022 Just loving these colours this evening

06.01.2022 Well that’s the easy part done - choosing a colour palette Now I just need to decide what to do with it

05.01.2022 Another square nearly finished - just needs a bit of gold cord in the gap.

04.01.2022 I’ve moved to the second panel on this piece. This will effectively be the back cover for this piece which I’ve chosen to work in band sampler fashion. The silk under my work light is shining beautifully!

02.01.2022 The restart option was definitely the right decision I’ve got a few more spaces to fill, but it’s coming together much more smoothly on the second attempt.

02.01.2022 I can’t travel out of Western Australia at the moment. Well I can, but the border is closed to the rest of the country so I wouldn’t be able to come back Fortunately one of my most favourite places is right here in beautiful Denmark. I’m recharging with glorious daily walks like this one
