The exhibition will be on display until Sunday 9 August Gallery opening hours 10am - 5pm Tuesday to Sunday. 08.01.2022 We are adding new pieces to our online shop regularly including this beautiful pair of 'Lagoon' earrings by Melinda Young. These earrings are hand made in recycled painted Australian ply with freshwater pearls, amazonite, turquoise and sterling silver. Melinda Young studied jewellery making at the Sydney College of the Arts and has been making special pieces for many years. She says of her practice, Fascinated by the potential for unexpected narrative and interpretation, ...my jewellery has a carefully considered use of colour and often a sly, subversive sense of humour. Inspired by architecture, the landscape, the social condition of the body and my everyday surroundings, my work often takes the form of small colour studies, each having the potential to tell a range of stories. If you are looking for that special handmade gift then head to our website to browse our selection of jewellery, ceramics, glass, metal and textiles. We can even gift wrap for you. Happy browsing!
07.01.2022 PORCELAIN featured artist : Kevin White Kevin White is one of the most eminent ceramic artists working in Australia and is also highly regarded, nationally and internationally, as a scholar in his chosen medium. His porcelain vessels and their contemporary embellishment take inspiration from the elegance and technical skill of the East Asian ceramic tradition. These arrestingly beautiful forms feature evocative hand-painted decoration with geometric planes of colour. Kevin h...as also incorporated, in his most recent work, larger sweeping brushstrokes that pay homage to his experience living and working in China and Japan. His distinct signature of interpretation is clear, giving new life to the ceramic traditions and refracting ideas of Japonisme seen in British ceramics of the 19th century. Kevin was born in England and arrived in Australia in 1985 upon completion of his post-graduate studies at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1978, he was awarded a scholarship by the Japanese Ministry of Education for post graduate research into ceramics in Japan. He then worked for three years in the studio of influential ceramic artist Mr Satoshi Sato. He is currently Adjunct Professor in the School of Art at RMIT University, Melbourne. His work is held in collections throughout the world, including the National Gallery of Australia, Parliament House, Powerhouse Museum, National Gallery of Victoria, Royal College of Art (UK), Tachikichi Corporation (Japan) and the Gifu Prefectural Ceramic Museum (Japan). View Kevin's work online or at the gallery: http://www.beavergalleries.com.au/exhibitions/porcelain-6// 'Porcelain' exhibition runs until 14 June

06.01.2022 Nicola Dickson Voyagers’ Tales: Baudin paintings and drawings 23 July 9 August 2020... Canberra artist Nicola Dickson presents works inspired by the expedition to Australia led by French naturalist Nicolas Baudin in 1800. A huge collection of plants, insects, birds and animals, and sketches of these, were brought back to France. Many of these items were acquired by Napoleon’s wife, the Empress Joséphine for her country residence, Château Malmaison. During a residency in Paris in 2017, Nicola had the opportunity to explore the Malmaison collection and historic archives. This exhibition attempts to convey a sense of the past ‘presences’ of birds and plants transported from Australia. You are invited to view the exhibition during normal gallery hours from Thursday 23 July to Sunday 9 August To preview the exhibition visit our website: http://www.beavergalleries.com.au//voyagers-tales/dickson/ Gallery hours: 10am - 5pm Tuesday - Sunday Beaver Galleries, Deakin, Canberra
