22.01.2022 UPCOMING EXHIBITION 2021 JULIE HICKSON NEW WORK 2-9th January 2021 Julie Hickson is a visual artist working primarily in painting. She has been developing a technique using hand cut stencils for the last decade. The study and representation of Australian native plants is central and as her practice evolves these forms are becoming more stylised.... Julie was the artist in residence at the Australian PlantBank and Mt. Annan Botanic Gardens in 2018 and through her research of Australian botanic forms there, she became increasingly aware of the many threatened and near extinct species. Her passion is to continue painting Australian plants with a view to inspire and increase awareness of our local and global environmental emergency. Having had the opportunity to explore the inner landscape of seed pods & plant structures, exploring images made in the laboratory using x-ray & microscopic photography Julie has a new impetus which drives the new body of work & hopefully inspire others to protect our native flora. 15.01.2022 Rockpool by Linda Haigh (23 x 22 x 13cm) hand coiled clay sculpture, pebbles, weathered shells. The rockpools at the northern end of Avalon beach continue to inspire my organic form ‘pebbles’. My work expresses the ‘sacred feminine’ themes reflecting earth, ocean, mother, heart. This body of work a series of stone-like, ‘organic’ forms is built by hand coiling clay. Each ‘pebble’ invites us to reach out and touch their texture is almost hypnotic @earthandtide...
