20.01.2022 If you're a successful grant applicant, you usually can't begin your project until the paperwork is signed. This article outlines how a number of grant recipients started building works (a couple even finished their project) before their final paperwork was complete. Given the funding was specifically for proposals where work had not begun, kicking off rendered their projects ineligible for the grants scheme. Always read the fine print.

You sit there, patiently refreshing your inbox, waiting for a reply, and nothing happens. No one replies, no one calls you for an interview, and no one picks up your story.'..... This advice might help.

13.01.2022 Ethics helps us tell right from wrong, good from bad - and this week The Ethics Centre showed there's a business case for being ethical: Making Australian companies 10% more ethical would generate a $45 billion uplift in gross domestic product every year. The Ethics Centre commissioned Deloitte Access Economics to answer a simple question: , , ? The result was this report and it's a very interesting read: https://ethics.org.au//uploads/2018/05/The-Ethical-Advanta

12.01.2022 Every child should have access to quality and educational toys. In Wangaratta, that’s the vision for the local toy library and for almost forty years they’ve been loaning toys to people with young children - parents, grandparents, playgroups and the like. It has been a pleasure to guide the Wangaratta Community Toy Library committee’s strategic planning over the past few weeks. Keep an eye out for this great organisation!
11.01.2022 Are you tempted to run for a political office as an independent candidate, but worry you lack the skills or contacts? This could mean local Council as much as S...tate or Federal Parliament. Or are you keen to support someone else to run, or to develop a selection process to help your community choose an independent it can get behind at the next election? This month will see the first-ever, online, national Convention for Community-minded Independents (26/27/28th February). This is your unique opportunity to learn all you can about running for office as an independent from those who have done it successfully. The convention will provide a powerful and inspiring learning experience for attendees and will offer opportunities to network and connect with independent, community-minded people from across all of Australia. The convention is also intended to build community knowledge and share practical advice so that more independent, community-minded candidates become involved in Australian politics. There is great disillusionment with the standards in politics at the moment and a real groundswell of people looking for higher standards from our political leaders, our convention host, Cathy McGowan AO has said - and many people agree. The convention offers attendees a powerful and inspiring learning experience that includes: Keynote addresses, panel discussions, practical workshops and small group discussions Opportunities to network and connect with independent, community-minded people from across Australia Opportunities to build your own connections and to share knowledge Opportunities to enhance your networks Guest speakers include community-minded politicians and grassroots activists Cathy McGowan AO, Zali Steggall OAM MP, Dr Helen Haines MP, Senator Jacqui Lambie, Dr Kerryn Phelps AM, Rebekah Sharkie, Suzanna Sheed MP, Ali Cupper MP, Linda Seymour from We Are Hughes and more. This online, weekend event is run on a not-for-profit basis and tickets are only $55/person. Interested? Find out more about the conference, and how you can take part, at the following address: www.communityindependents.com.au
