19.01.2022 The draft Greater Glenorchy Plan is now on exhibition until the 30th November. The Plan sets out a vision for Glenorchy, Moonah and Claremont in 2040. It describes what our people want our cities to look like in 2040 and it provides a precinct plan for each one. The precinct plans propose where new development will occur, where the green space will be, and how people will move around.... Each precinct plan: creates welcoming places for people reinforces the importance of each centre for activity encourages increased density creates safer transport connections supports job creation and growth of our economy promotes a greener Glenorchy supports high quality urban design and innovation These plans are visionary. We will use the plans to excite governments and developers to invest in our cities. We will use them as a basis for Council programs and we will use them to inform our planning scheme and approvals. We want to know what you think of these plans and if you have any other ideas about how our cities could be improved! Please consider these plans carefully and have your say on our new Let’s Talk page! https://letstalk.gcc.tas.gov.au/greater-glenorchy-plan

11.01.2022 It was great to help the Glenorchy City Bowls Club celebrate its 50 year anniversary last night! Thanks to Club Secretary, Leigh McAdam, for telling the story of the club’s history, and also for his 40 years of participation and service to the club! President Michael O’Brien, together with Patron Leila Marshall, cut the amazing cake and a fabulous commemorative bowls cloth was gifted to all members and past members. ... Call in sometime and say hello to this lovely bunch of people in Alcorso Drive, Berriedale! But beware, that’s what Leigh McAdam did 40 years ago, with no intention of learning to bowl! 08.01.2022 Next Thursday 3 September I will be sleeping out to raise awareness and funds for the Salvation Army's Street2Home Program. This important program supports Tasmanians experiencing homelessness to access essential food and clothing items, programs, services and shelter and relies exclusively on donations and internal funding to operate. If you can, please sponsor me by clicking on the link below to support this worthy cause. Every little bit will motivate me to brave a cold night out and more importantly, will help those in need on our streets. We can all make a difference

08.01.2022 Most mornings and afternoons when I walk past council lawns I come across litter, like this photo shows or even worse. There are multiple bins in this patch, but still people just drop their rubbish on the ground. Cigarette butts around our CBD are another issue a community member raised with me this week. So how do we instil a sense of pride and responsibility in people who frequent our open public spaces? ... How do we encourage people to put their litter in the bin, to keep our city clean? I plan to raise this question at our Healthy Communities Committee meeting on Tuesday. Please share any ideas you have and I’ll take them to the meeting. Love this place

08.01.2022 One of these bench seats will be my bed for the Salvos sleep out this week. I think it’s going to be a long, sleepless night. But fortunately for me it’s only one night. Please sponsor me and support people experiencing homelessness in Tasmania. Donations via this link greatly appreciated https://salvossleepout.salvationarmy.org.au

04.01.2022 Have you ever heard the term ‘the flannelette curtain’? It refers to the boundary between Hobart and the Northern Suburbs. Many people have set beliefs about Glenorchy and what does and doesn’t belong past the flannelette curtain. Well it’s time to turn that on its head! We want to REALLY understand what we love about living and working beyond the curtain. We want to go behind the scenes. Through a series of in-depth interviews with members of our community and an online Fac...ebook conversation, this project will be re-writing our story for the world to read, helping us build our image and pride. Our story will also inform how we shape the City’s future development, when we prepare precinct plans for Moonah, Glenorchy and Claremont later in the year. In this way, we will help make sure our CBDs reflect who we are now and who we want to be. Over the next six weeks we want to find out who we are and who we want to be in the future. We want to understand Glenorchy’s backstory, so we can make sure it is a place that feels like home and that we are proud to call home. You are all part of Glenorchy and we want you to be involved. Please follow the Beyond the Curtain Facebook page, where we will be sharing stories and also calling out for you to get involved. You may also wish to be interviewed and share what you know about Glenorchy. Help us find out What’s Beyond the Curtain! Love this place

03.01.2022 I was grateful to be welcomed to the President’s lunch at North Hobart Oval today by my great mate and The North Hobart Football Club President Craig Martin, alongside the Hon. Sue Hickey - Liberal Member for Clark Despite the result not going the way of the Pies, it was a great game and the Dees respectfully formed a guard of honour to send off Glenorchy District Football Club 'RSEA Magpies' and TSL legend Jaye Bowden, finishing his TSL career after almost 250 games for the ...Pies. A dedicated career and inspiration for many in our community, thanks Jaye! Love this place
