24.01.2022 Absolutely glorious down at the garden today. While the soil is still pretty hard, there were signs of life in the soil which was very encouraging to see. How I miss spending time down there with people and sharing in the delights and discovery. While we can't be gathering in groups just yet, please feel free to drop your food scraps in the compost bin, the worms will happily turn it into rich compost ready for us when we can restart our working bees. There are plenty of signs of spring in the garden so get out there and pick peas, take home herbs and leafy greens for dinner, plant something and watch it grow and enjoy this beautiful space. #community #gardening #foodisfree

24.01.2022 Another online market worth checking out! Support these great local innitiatives where people are making it work despite the barriers. Enormous amounts of work will have gone into this event, so pop it in your calendar, stare it with friends and set up for an afternoon of live music while you get your Christmas gift shopping sorted.

23.01.2022 Fresh, organic fruit and veg via the co-op

23.01.2022 If anyone has tried grafting, then you'll appreciate how ecstatic I was to find little green leaves bursting from bids today. This was a little COVID makeshift attempt using waterproof bandaids in place of grafting tape. Absolutely thrilled to have at least 1 take. Has anyone else been grafting?

22.01.2022 Ben has been a regular presenter at the garden and his classes are always packed. His passion is palpable, he's engaging and has a wealth of knowledge along with a great sense of humor. His love of bee keeping has taken him all over and made for some fascinating stories. I have no doubt that this book will be a ripper of a read so I had to share. A book and some of his glorious honey would certainly make for a hapbee Christmas

21.01.2022 Excited to the wonderful Kirsty Bishop-Fox present on Sustainable Home & Kitchen. Most of you would have heard of Kirsty, from Zero Waste, as a presenter at Festivals or seen her being interviewed on TV, but if you haven't, check out her business Sustainability Pathways https://www.sustainabilitypathways.com.au/ Make sure you Enrol to receive the Zoom link for the session.

19.01.2022 Sustainable Home and Kitchen on now. PM if you're having trouble getting in.

17.01.2022 How amazing is this. Anyone got some we could try it with?

16.01.2022 Concluding the annual Back Yard bird count. This sounds like a wonderful webinar is free. The typical urban gardens are commonly designed with ground cover and taller trees. Our precious little birds however need the mid story cover and connected cover to safely move around. I would love to hear from people who have seen small birds in their gardens??

16.01.2022 A possum has taken up residence in a little house made by local builder Eli, aged 7. The little house is situated in the dead tree near the CRCC entry. Instead of taking the tree down, the wonderful Bushland crew turned it into a habitat tree. Be sure to make our newest Bedford Park resident feel welcome and give them a wave

13.01.2022 Get in quick before they're all gone!

10.01.2022 Hey gang. Raspberries are looking mellow yellow...and not in a good way. What do we think...stress? Nutrient difficiency? Or disease? What should we try?

10.01.2022 Did you know that some sunscreens have chemicals that are harmful for our aquatic life? Of course we must be sunsmart, Kirsty recommended Sunbutter if you're looking for an alternative. Does anyone else have a sunscreen that's enviro friendly?

10.01.2022 You've gotta check out the link. Food art at it's cutest!!!!

10.01.2022 Free garden summit. This sounds like an amazing innitiative to support everyone getting access to food growing tips during the pandemic and to get gardens thriving, with simple practical tips. A collection of interviews, 21 in total I believe. What exceptional community spirit from all over the world, coming together to lend a helping hand in this time of need. Check it out.

09.01.2022 It's snowing in my home. Reports say it's been around 20 years since we've had some this late in September. May your crops weather this cold snap.

05.01.2022 Virtual Festival not be missed

05.01.2022 This could be really interesting! Some native species require heat and smoke to germinate.

03.01.2022 I know you're all keen to see what's changing so I'll cut right to it. Thanks to the efforts of every Victorian, there are some things we can do now and do ...safely. From 11.59pm tonight we'll make some changes for metro Melbourne that help us reconnect with friends and family and spend more time with the ones we miss, and the people we love. Then from 11.59pm on 1 November, we'll take the rest of the Third Step. That means some more easing around visitors at home, retail and hospo, religious gatherings, personal training and workplaces and outdoor community sport will restart. We may be able to bring some of these changes forward slightly, depending on the numbers and health advice and I'll have an update for you on how we're going next weekend. We'll make some further changes in regional Victoria over the two weeks too including increasing the limits for religious gatherings, pubs and restaurants, and getting kids back to indoor sport. I know this isn't everything everyone wanted but our plan was always going to follow the advice of our public health experts. And I'm not pretending that this makes everything better for every Victorian either. Some people would rather the entire state opened yesterday. I get it. Nothing about this is easy. But after everything we've sacrificed, we can't afford to risk it all now. Our focus needs to be on keeping cases down and transmission low. That means keep getting tested, following the health advice and playing it safe. We've come so far and we are so close to seeing this through. And it's all thanks to you.

03.01.2022 Brilliant Mushroom growing with Sena this afternoon.
