20.01.2022 Some great pictures and memories shared by recent guests of their Undara tour with our wonderful guide Penny! Thanks for visiting 5 Wild Wanderers

20.01.2022 Over the next few weeks we'll be bringing you some tales and behind the scenes info from our wonderful Bedrock team Next up is Mr Joe What is your Role at Bedrock Village? ... Sometimes I’m allowed to be the boss! Ha ha. Throughout the Covid-19 times I've had to sharpen up my office skills as well as keeping up my part time role as chief grandchild wrangler! What bought you up to FNQ? I was born in Herberton, 1 of 10 children! Raised in Ravenshoe with my 4 Brothers and 5 sisters, where my parents still reside. What do you like to do in your spare time? I enjoy spending time with our grandson, Nathan, teaching him all the cheeky things grandparents are supposed to! What would be your 'not to miss' part of a trip to our region? Making the best use of our campfire area, having a beer, telling a yarn and surrounding yourself with new people! Share with us some wisdom you've learnt in your years in the bush! I was told about the golden rule when I was very young, apparently it’s an old jungle saying, and it’s quite evident today. He who has the gold makes the rules.

18.01.2022 Over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you some backyard tales and behind the scenes info from our wonderful Bedrock Team! Next up is Nathan What is your role at Bedrock?... Chief procrastination assistant to Poppy Joe and number one Bedrock grandchild! What bought you up to FNQ? Well my dad is one of the first generation of Bedrock kids, Toby! Some know him as the barefoot bushman who used to run tours from Bedrock to the creek. And my mum, Toni, who was on the staff profile the other day was up here working on cattle properties when my dad convinced her to stay around for a while longer. Some wild adventures working through Cape York and the Downs country were had, and when I came along they decided to take a step down and settle for family life on a cattle property 30km from Mt Surprise! What do you like to do in your spare time? Being spun around fast until I get dizzy by my Dad would have to be right up there looking after our dogs/cows/chickens/horses with Mum and going for rides on all of the above fixing stuff in the shed with Poppy and of course helping Granny clean the rooms at Bedrock! What would be your ‘not to miss’ part of a trip to our region? One of my favourite places is the Mt Surprise dump, I love going around on the motorbike with my poppy to get the bedrock rubbish. He knows not to start the bike in my nap time as I’ll be up and attem ready to go with him! Share with us some wisdom you’ve learnt in your years living in the bush! Make sure you close the doors or the poddy calves will poop on mums kitchen floor!

11.01.2022 Bedrock Announcement Alert Usually, from the end of September our visitor numbers slow right down, however this year, our tourist season has been very different and we still have lots of Queenslanders visiting our wonderful region, so we have decided to extend our morning Undara lava tube tours until the end of October! Tours will run daily, subject to numbers. Bookings for tours are recommended to avoid disappointment.... Bedrock Village will also be running tours to Undara during the "green season" from November until March while the Undara Experience Lodge is closed for building projects. We envisage tours to run 4 days a week with a three week break over the Christmas/new year period. More details will be posted in a couple of weeks, once we have worked out which tours and days we are going to run. Please contact our office on 0740623193 or [email protected] for further details and bookings. Please note, bookings and enquiries via email are preferred.

08.01.2022 Over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you a few stories and inside info from our wonderful Bedrock team! First up is Mrs Jo! What is your role at Bedrock?... Together with my husband, I am the owner of Bedrock Village. What bought you up to FNQ? In my younger years, I was a jillaroo and in the late 80's I was working on a property at Muttaburra, near Longreach, where I met Joe, my husband. We moved around a lot and eventually settled in Mount Surprise in 1993 and built the caravan park which opened in 1998. What do you like to do in your spare time? I love traveling, overseas and within Australia and if I have time, I like a quiet spot with a good book. What would be your ‘not to miss’ part of a trip to our region? The Savannahlander train, because it is so unique and the undara lave tubes, an amazing geological wonder. Share with us some wisdom you’ve learnt in your years living in the bush! Always make time in our busy lives, to stop and have a cuppa or a beer with friends and acquaintances who drop in unannounced.

07.01.2022 Merry Christmas from our Bedrock family There's been a few fires about in the last few weeks but the wonderful volunteers and fire fighters have been out day and night to get them under control Have just checked the rain gauge and have 130mL in there! Bring on the wet season! ... we've still got our mob of 'Bedrock Weaners' we're unofficially agisting with our water bore fed green grassy caravan sites! A few more months of working on our 'off season' projects and getting ready to welcome our guests for the 2020 season! We wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year! And look forward to seeing you in 2020

05.01.2022 It is with much sadness but with wonderful memories that we would like to inform our extended Bedrock Family that we have lost our wonderful friend Steve. Steve moved into his little humpy down by the pool at Bedrock in 1999 and left in an ambulance in October 2015 after being bitten by a king brown! ... He lived an adventurous life and was a very unique character. Finally he has found peace from the relentless ongoing health issues he has fought over many years. I'm sure those who knew him have nothing but fond memories of our "eccentric little man!" R.I.P Steve See more

05.01.2022 Here come the first pies of the season! Chunky pepper steak with caramilised onion! Get in my belly

05.01.2022 Over the next few weeks we'll be bringing you some tales and behind the scenes info about our wonderful Bedrock team Next up is Toni (aka Bedrocks favourite Daugher in law) What is your Role at Bedrock Village? ... Friday night host and cook whilst juggling a toddler, baby calves, dogs etc. and station life outside of Bedrock Village. I’m a bit of a rouse about you will find me in the kitchen, driving the bus, or dishing out breakky on Saturday mornings. What bought you up to FNQ? I arrived in Mount Surprise in 2015, as young independent woman ready to tackle the world, working at Mount Surprise cattle Station for approximately 3 years originating from the south east coast (Hervey Bay). Soon after my arrival I was scooped up by Jo and Joes lovely and deviant son Toby, and not long after that I was ironically SURPRISED by the arrival of our beautiful boy Nathan in September 2018. At Mount Surprise Station I was a station hand, working cattle on both horse and bikes, maintaining waters and fence lines, as well as sneaking off up to the cape to do a little feral bull catching alongside Toby in our spare weeks. What do you like to do in your spare time? Spare time is not something you have a lot of as a parent but if I can catch an hour or so I do enjoy working my horses and cows. I have just recently finished breaking in my first hand raised calf Darla. What would be your 'not to miss' part of a trip to our region? If you by luck are able to grab a spot on the cattle station tour it’s great to see what surrounds Mount Surprise and an example of the beautiful spots tucked in to stations. It involves being taken to the head of the Craigyburn springs which is surrounded with abundance of life and Fig trees as old as Poppy Joe feels. Share with us some wisdom you've learnt in your years in the bush! Always pack a lunch, you never know what the day could encounter.

04.01.2022 BASALT BASH IS ON AGAIN!

04.01.2022 The fire that started on Friday, just outside of the Mt Surprise township, is now largely under control but it has certainly left it's mark on the area. Unfortu...nately, it will mean that the Savannahlander can no longer get through to Mt Surprise until the bridge that spans Elizabeth Creek has been rebuilt. We have managed to salvage what we can of the trip, and along with Bedrock Village, have put together quite a unique experience for those booked to travel with us over the next few weeks of the season. Thankyou to Jes from Bedrock and Vicky from Mt Surprise for the pictures below. The pics really illustrate how close the fire got to town. I am just glad everyone is ok! Wil

03.01.2022 Welcome to the Bedrock Facebook page! As most may have noticed we did a sponsored post outlining the restrictions only a few hours before they were lifted! Things are moving fast so we thought we’d add another update! We are now open to all Queensland travelers outside the Biosecurity Zones. And it sounds like soon to be interstate guests as well, all going smoothly July 10! ... As per our initial post, at this stage our cafe and meal facilities will remain closed- please bring enough food/groceries to be self sufficient. We hope you can understand, as it is still quite unknown what will unfold in this season for us, and planning staffing in remote areas can be a bit tricky. We will reassess opening the cafe as the weeks go on and pending our lovely cafe staff being available! We will start running our tours on the 2nd of July, however, they won't be as frequent as advertised on our website, please contact us before arriving, to enquire about our tours, because they will all be pending demand! Bookings for accomodation is recommended, please call our wonderful reception team to reserve your accommodation 07 40623193 We look forward to welcoming you to our end of the world! Team Bedrock!
