22.01.2022 Toddlers have been found to have a universal desire to help when observed both in clinical settings, and at home. They have been observed helping parents to do ...routine housework without prompting, and if toddlers' innate desire to help is nurtured, it seems that they will continue helping voluntarily throughout their childhood and into adulthood. Studies have also shown that toddlers don't just help to receive a reward. One study found that giving a reward for helping actually reduces subsequent helping. Children are intrinsically motivated rather than extrinsically motivated to helpthat is, they help because they want to be helpful, not because they expect to get something for it. (Rewards can change people’s attitudes about a previously enjoyed activity, from something that is done for its own sake, to something that is done primarily to get a reward). It can be tempting as parents to brush off a child's attempts at helping, either because it will take too long to get the job done, or because they won't do a good enough job. However, children can grow in very positive ways by helping. They can acquire valuable skills, and feelings of personal empowerment, belonging, and altruism. Children also help in part to reinforce their bond with their parents. 20.01.2022 Are you struggling with the dreaded bedtime battle every night? Overtired children are fatigued, and the body's natural response to fatigue is to fight it by producing a stimulating chemical. This 'second wind' can cause children to become loud and silly right before bed. Often parents may choose to stretch bedtime out longer until the child is exhausted and unable to 'put up a fight'. However, this is in fact setting the child up for ongoing fatigue day to day and regu...lar release of stimulating chemicals that produce that 'second wind' of a night time. 18.01.2022 Some absolutely beautiful advice from Big Little Feelings to consider at bedtime ... success in routine and relationships comes from mutual goals <3

18.01.2022 ' ... Not sure where to start, or just wanting to fine tune the routine you’ve already got? Here are our : 1. Start young! The earlier the better to set the scene of consistency even if your newborn is still waking every three hours for feeds, a bedtime routine will help them start to recognise the difference between night and day. ... 2. Keep moving in the same direction (i.e. try not to move from the bathroom, to the bedroom, then back again) with stimulus decreasing at each step. 3. Keep it short and sweet! A bedtime routine between 20 - 40 minutes is optimal. 4. Be sure to include everything important (toileting, brushing teeth, etc.). Completing extra tasks after a bedtime routine kinda defeats the point! 5. Make the very last activity an enjoyable one (e.g., story time, chats about what made you happy that day). This way bedtime is more likely to be something your little one is looking forward to.

13.01.2022 Bedtime is most often a time of separation that can be difficult for children, especially young ones. To help make bedtime a more positive experience for your child, set aside 10-30 to do something special with your child before bed. It is important to make sure this takes place in your child's bedroom, otherwise they will learn they must leave the pleasant experience to go to bed.
