11.01.2022 Hi I'm Jay, and this is our story of how we got into beekeeping. One spring day, my wife decided to reduce the size of the entrance-holes to a very large bird-house, located just outside our kitchen window. She did this in the hope of encouraging small birds to nest. She cut and painted, seven small turquoise doors, complete with door handles and entrance holes. However the bird-house never attracted birds of any kind. A few weeks after the modification we were amused to se...e a very large swarm, making a bee line for the bird-house. The bees settled in were very happy in their new home. After a short time, we realized having a bee-hive attached to your house isn't ideal. So one night we bravely taped up the entrance holes and relocated the bird-house/hive to a location approximately 50 metres from the house. The bird house was extremely heavy to carry and as luck would have it, there was a small-hole in the back of bird house in which many bees escaped. We were both stung numerous times during the trek down our steep driveway. That colony live happily in the bird-house, producing tonnes of delicious honey. This was the beginning of our new hobby.
