19.01.2022 Wow what a good read! Fascinating to see someone find something theyre really passionate about

19.01.2022 Are you a wax foundation beekeeper or a plastic foundation beekeeper? Or better yet, do you use both? Foundations are basically used to manipulate how the bees construct the comb. It's a technique that's been widely used by commercial beekeepers, making honey extraction easy peasy.

18.01.2022 Celebrating Pollinator Week last week, we put into perspective how much hard work the bees do to help produce the fruits we eat.

18.01.2022 Foundation or Foundationless? One of the important decisions that you would have to make when starting beekeeping. Going foundationless comes with only one reason, which is to allow the bees to build their comb with the direction and size of cells that they want and need. This method is aligned with natural beekeeping, where beekeepers will less likely intervene or manipulate the operations inside the beehive. Although foundationless sounds really easy, it can be really cha...llenging for the beekeeper. With foundations, the bees are guided into building a straight comb. Without it, bees can often create a cross comb, where combs can be interconnected with one frame to another. This makes inspection harder and honey extracting more tedious! Which one do you prefer?

18.01.2022 Well done to this good lad!

18.01.2022 Have you thought about your bees' water source? We've left our faucet half closed in the warehouse and has created a small puddle. Few days later, the bees have been gathering around the puddle, gathering water! To create a water source for the bees, fill up water in a container, enough for 1L of water. Depending how deep and wide the container is, provide the bees some landing pads such as rocks and timber.

14.01.2022 There has been reports from the AHBIC that a nest of the 'Apis Florea' or Red Dwarf Honey Bee's have been found. It was located from an international vessel in Brisbane and has been exterminated. Red Dwarf Honey bees are commonly found throughout Asia, particularly in the South East region. However, their arrival in Australia poses risk of exotic mites such as Euvarroa wongsirii and Euvarroa sinhai, both of which are closely related to that of the varroa mite.

14.01.2022 Taking bee photos in the flowers takes MANY takes! A photo of one bee in a flower can require maybe 5 to 10 takes minimum! The bee moves so fast and move from flower to flower so quickly. Bees can visit at least 100 flowers daily!

09.01.2022 When you see this happening, do not panic! This behaviour is called bearding. The bees do this when the climate is extremely hot, that's why you'll see this phenomenon often during the summer. Bees do this to help maintain the temperature and humidity inside the hive.

01.01.2022 So our beehive started cleaning out the beehive last week when the weather was warm. Sadly, the bees only have a short life span. In the summer, the bees will work themselves to death and will live for about 4 to 6 weeks. In the winter, since there is not much activity, they can live up to 5 months!

01.01.2022 Had to be careful not to step on this bee! What is she doing?
