25.01.2022 Thank you to Julian Leeser MP for acknowledging Beecroft House.

24.01.2022 When it comes to leaving it’s not always as easy as ‘who gets what’ - if you are in an abusive relationship, often the time leading up to and just after leaving can be one of the most dangerous. Because often, telling the abuser that the relationship is over can result in violence. So if you need to flee, where can you go? We are joined by the CEO of Women’s Community Shelters Annabelle Daniels and Louise Elkington from Relationships Australia NSW to discuss mediation. Produced by Cass Thorburn (@cassthorburn) & Annaliese Dent (@annaliesedent) If you need assistance, please call 1800 Respect. If you are in a dangerous situation please call 000.

21.01.2022 TIME UPDATE: 12:00 noon Something for the diary. Special thanks to Epping Hotel for hosting this fundraiser for Women's Community Shelters Beecroft House.

18.01.2022 Can you believe it's been just over a year since Beecroft House opened, our unique 'meanwhile use' project which provides safe and secure accommodation for women over 55! On 8th August 2019, we celebrated the opening with a special smoking ceremony by Uncle Laurie which was attended by all the project partners, community members and wonderful supporters like you who helped make the project possible. Then on the 25th September 2019, we celebrated again when our first resident ...moved in, followed by another nineteen women who now call Beecroft House their home. But none of this would have been possible without the kindness and generosity of our supporters and we thank you for being a 'Beecroft Backer' and for lending your support to this innovative project.. We really couldn't have done it without you! From in kind donations to financial gifts; from bedroom backers to kitchen backers; from working bees to those working behind the scenes, it really was a huge community effort that enabled an old aged care facility to be turned into a beautiful safe and secure home for vulnerable women in need. 16.01.2022 "Currently, more than 330,000 single women over the age of 45 are living in a state of economic distress that is, spending more than 30 per cent of their gross income just keeping a roof over their heads with as many as 45 per cent of them earning the minimum wage or less. Additionally, reports the Career Development Association of Australia, in 2019, 273,000 work positions were made redundant, a 45 per cent surge on the figures for 2017." 16.01.2022 We are experiencing a major shift in the way we provide services during COVID-19, she said. The NSW Government needs to heed the warnings of providers and allocate the funding on the frontline immediately. - Annabelle Daniel, Women's Community Shelters

16.01.2022 "Tonight, we are celebrating our Walk The Talk Awards. In 2019 Womens Community Shelters launched their Walk the Talk education initiative in fifteen Sydney sc...hools. A pioneering program I developed to build high school students awareness of domestic violence and womens homelessness, Walk the Talk empowered students to support the local women and children in need by adopting their local shelter. 2,300 Sydney students walked the talk in 2019. After a year of incredible student led initiatives the most outstanding students will be acknowledged at the inaugural Walk the Talk Awards at the AFL Giants Club in Sydney Olympic Park. The evening event will be attended by the finalist, their supporting teacher, proud parents and representatives from the five shelters within the Womens Community Shelters network they supported throughout the year. The winner will receive a $500 Myer gift voucher to acknowledge their efforts. The students raised money through numerous fundraising activities, created welcome packs, handmade wooden toys for the shelters, grew vegetables, volunteered including landscaping the gardens and renovated a study space in one of the shelters, assisted at gala fundraisers and helped raise awareness in their local communities. The student finalists are absolutely inspirational, and I cannot tell you how emotional I get when I read their entries. What I am feeling is enormous pride that we have developed this life-changing program, huge hope that perhaps we can make a tangible difference and bring about generational change, and love - deep love for these passionate adolescents who are so deeply invested in walking the talk on domestic violence in their local communities. The 28 student finalists, who were identified and nominated by their schools, were assessed by a judging panel including The Real Tracey Spicer (Journalist and gender equity advocate), Jack Ellis(Walk the Talk school program facilitator), Sarrah Le Marquand (Editor in Chief of STELLAR magazine), Natalie Ferres (Director of Bendelta) and Paul Say (Womens Community Shelters Board member). These awards will recognise the willingness young people have displayed to go above and beyond in walking the talk to support the Womens Community Shelters mission." 15.01.2022 When Twilight Aged Care reached out to Women's Community Shelters with their idea, we doubt they had any idea of the ripple they were making. What has transpired since that time has been a tremendous amount of work but there has also been a sprinkling of magic dust in the way our partners, and our community have come together to create something unique and groundbreaking. Well below market rates for affordable housing, Beecroft House is set to change lives, providing stab...ility and ultimately a pathway to permanent housing through our housing partnerships. 04.01.2022 Barker College's Sthalekar House spent the day at Beecroft House. Gardening, cleaning, cooking and singing with clients. They left the tangible gifts of a beautiful painting created onsite, bags of treats and pantry items, meals for all the residents to enjoy - including Rocky Road and the intangible but most valued gift of love and respect that they gave to each resident. "It's been a long time since I have had someone cook for me with such love".... "I loved that they played my song request." "How did they know that I love Rocky Road?"

01.01.2022 Another great day at Beecroft House last month when AMP and Telstra joined forces to bring the garden at Beecroft House to life. Special acknowledgement to Kerry Dibbs from Link Housing for coordinating a wonderful educational session on caring for roses with Phil from Community Greening and to the McClelland family for their donation of gardening equipment, watering cans and pruning sheers. Then it was on to setting up the brand new Vegepod - purchased by Link Housing, so... residents can grow fresh vegetables for their meals plus some major sweeping, raking, weed pulling and tree trimming.
