25.01.2022 Big day today getting all the sheep through for their 4 monthly service- drenching, vaccination, foot trimming, wound inspection/treatment and marking lambs. Hard work done till next time.
25.01.2022 Early crop of sweet corn, blanched, bagged and into the freezer. Lovely
20.01.2022 Orange & Poppyseed biscuits, not too bad!
20.01.2022 Poddy Lamb Update Sadly the biggest of the triplets went downhill and we couldn't save him but his sister and runty little brother are doing well.
18.01.2022 Need to get these noisy buggers soughted out next few days. We will be expanding their free range pasture areas with some more hot wires. Got a few good ideas off Simon over at Pappinbarra where we purchased our new Boar, big boy. Our pigs are Wessex Saddlebacks. We purchased 3 young piglets end of last November, 2 sows and a Boar. We had the Boar on the spit at Christmas ( bloody beautiful) and have grown out the 2 girls since. We introduced our new Boar to them last week, been plenty of action and romance to date and all are getting on very well. Big Boy had a bit of a go at me 1st few days but he has settled down now.
17.01.2022 Alfa-Laval = cutting out the middle man! We were given this old PTO Hammer Mill by a farmer near Holbrook. It belonged to his father and had been sitting unused... in the shed for years. A bit of TLC and she was ready to go. We put a ton of barley through that we got out west and also did a bin of shell grit for the chooks. See more
16.01.2022 Spot of lure fishing this afternoon with Nugget and a couple of neighbours up the Hastings River near Ralfes Creek. Young fella got 2 nice Bass around 42cm, I got one as well and our neighbour took one as well. Kept a couple for the table.
16.01.2022 Big storm ripped through the farm a couple of weeks ago, lots of trees down, few fences flattened but nothing major. Old Deer pen fence finally blew down around the pigs , take it as a good kick along to pull the finger out and rebuild the facility.
15.01.2022 Our veg garden is starting to take off with the spring rains and the warmer days.
14.01.2022 Another addition to this years crop of calves, this little heifer is from our Murray Grey cow, both doing very well.
11.01.2022 Yowie Ointment - discovered this little beauty from Wellness 365. If you are looking for an all-natural product for nappy rashes, eczema, rashes and other skin irritations then this is the one. Hubby used it on a rash on his face and it cleared up overnight when over-the-counter products were taking 4-5 days for a result. I also used it on an eczema spot and it too cleared up overnight. I was out gardening yesterday and came into contact with an "itchy-plant" so I applied the Yowie Ointment and had instant relief. All of the ingredients are natural in this hand made product and it smells good enough to eat (didn't try it though!)
07.01.2022 Another 1st for us with the birth of a set of triplet lambs. Only drama is the mother doesn't want a bar of them. Had to bottle feed them tonight, tomorrow we will catch the mother and pen her up with them. Maybe with a good feed of grain and hay she might let her guard down and let these little buggers have a feed. Not to keen on hand feeding 3 lambs, 3 times a day for 4 weeks but no real drama if needed.
04.01.2022 Some pics of our Plymouth rock flock. We purchased 9 pullets from out near Coonamble, N.S.W which was a 17hr round trip we also purchased another 10 pullets and a cockerel from out at Rye, N.S.W which also turned into a 15hr trip, some great places on the way to both which we explored. We were lucky though to get our prized cock from Upper Lansdowne which is here on the mid north coast, not too far away. Our chook's have started paying their keep with more than enough eggs we can eat or hatch, which is great. The Plymouth rock is a heirloom breed of chicken which was very common in the early part of last century. They are a dual purpose bird which makes a very good meaty carcass and is also a good egg layer. They are a quite and placid large chook and are very easy to look after.
04.01.2022 Have a great New Years and best wishes, love and prosperity for 2019
03.01.2022 Finally some good rain, keep it coming
