21.01.2022 Important information regarding travel to Belgium: From 25 December 2020 and until further notice, non-Belgian residents on arrival in Belgium will be requested to present a negative PCR test result that is less than 48 hours old. (This measure does not apply for passengers in transit only who remain airside.) The airline company (the ‘carrier’) is responsible for ensuring this test is indeed presented at the check-in counter, before departure. ... And the ‘carrier’ is under strict obligation to refuse boarding to passengers that cannot provide a negative test result conform to the regulation. The Embassy advises all travelers to Belgium to closely monitor https://diplomatie.belgium.be/en and https://www.info-coronavirus.be/en for further information. More details will be provided as they become available. We understand the practical difficulties that this new rule will introduce in people’s travel plans.

19.01.2022 Did you know that on December 14, 1911, the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen was the first man to reach the South Pole? 12.01.2022 #lestweforget | On Wednesday 9 September 2020 Ambassador of Belgium in Canberra, Mr. Marc Mullie, and his spouse, Mrs. Marjolijn van de Geer, organised an intimate ceremony at their Residence in Yarralumla to honour the memory of Australian Private John Thomas Huckle, who was Killed in Action in October 1917 in Belgium. The whole project started when recording artist and singer Johnny Huckle asked Belgian-born Professor Patrick De Deckker, Emeritus Professor at ANU, to hel...p him locate the grave of his great uncle, lost during the Great War in Europe. With the precious help of Belgian Historian René Degryse and the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, Professor De Deckker managed to find the grave of Private Huckle in Ypres and gathered some valuable background information about his uniformed service and fate on the battlefield of Flanders. he also found information about the post-humus medal. During the ceremony, all the documents and photos collected regarding the service of John Thomas Huckle were handed over to the extended Huckle family, who had gathered for the occasion. This ceremony further strengthened the bond established between Australia and Belgium during the First World War. As we know, more than 62.000 Australian Diggers in total made the ultimate sacrifice during that conflict. A conservative estimate is that around a thousand Indigenous Australians were enlisted and fought in Europe. (https://www.awm.gov.au//our-wo/projects/indigenous-service ). Some of them have found their last resting place in Belgium. Through the example of Private John Thomas Huckle, the Embassy of Belgium wished to honour and pay respect to the role played by Indigenous Australians in the fight to defend the cause of Freedom and Democracy.
