09.01.2022 Russell Hinze, MLA outside the Albert Shire Council offices was on his way to his last council meeting after 15 years as a member and nine years as chairman of ...the council. During his time on the Albert Shire Council he helped the Shire develop from a purely rural local authority to one which is now recognised throughout the State as a progressive urban area. It includes the rapidly growing districts of Woodridge, Eight Mile Plains, Slacks Creek, Beenleigh and the canal estates west of Broadbeach."--Gold Coast Bulletin, 20 January 1967. See more

01.01.2022 1st Queensland Contingent loading horses aboard the Cornwall, at Pinkenba in late October 1899, prior to departure for South Africa. This is a brilliant photo...graph that literally captures the effort of getting the horses into the hold. Take a moment to look at all the visible faces. The Artillery officer to the left seems startled. The QMI trooper and the boat hands are struggling to push the horse down the gangplank. You can almost hear the Battery-Sergeant Major in the foreground bellowing orders, and the younger gunner to the left is leaping to obey. Behind him the next horse is being led aboard. The captured moment is so full of movement that it is hard to remember that it was taken in 1899! Source:SLQ See more
