14.01.2022 We Care, Show Kindness! Discussion Points What does it mean to show empathy for others? If empathy is to understand and share the feelings of another person, and you see someone is upset or down, how could you show kindness to help improve their day?... How do you feel when someone compliments you for something? Does it make you feel more positive? Task: Students are to nominate someone in the room and give them an honest compliment. It may be to acknowledge result they have worked hard to achieve, a team they have trained hard to make or even a friendship they have worked hard at keeping. Please ensure students do this maturely as done without care can contradict the purpose of the activity. It may require you to model a compliment for a student first. See more

13.01.2022 Today, the Year 10 Science in Practice students were able to experience real life Crime Scene operations as part of their Forensic studies. The team from Logan Crime Scene Unit Response Team visited the school today and provided students with real-life learning experiences. The students made weapons casts, lifted fingerprints on various materials, bagged hair samples, and tested various substances for blood! They even had an opportunity to wear and use the police’s real equi...pment all alongside Crime Scene Officers who kindly volunteered their time. Overall, it was an engaging experiencing and the officers were very impressed with the students. This is going to be an ongoing relationship between Beenleigh State High School and the officers as we endeavour to deliver quality learning opportunities for our students. Well done Year 10, and thank you to Tammy, Joseph and Nicole for taking the time to deliver such an engaging, hands-on experience for our students. Thanking you kindly. Kind Regards, Emina Sehic Biology & Junior Science

11.01.2022 RUOK Last week, the aim was to get as many students as possible to ask someone, RUOK. It was a spectacular success brought on by a team of AMAZING HUMAN BEINGS.... Chef Jordan, Engagement, Hospitality, the Well-Being Hub and Student Council put on a BBQ. Having a BBQ makes the world right. It aligns all the planets, to let all the good around the world come in! The BBQ was to bring awareness for everyone to keep asking each other RUOK? It highlighted child Protection week, to let our students know they are not along and there is always someone to talk to, at our school A SENSE OF BELONGING just like those snags in bread with a delicate, yet purposeful dollop of tomato sauce, followed by the sweetness of cupcakes with icing. The children; both young and old, danced and laughed to music, both young and old - making it all worthwhile. 04.01.2022 We Care, Show Kindness! Discussion Points What is meant by the saying ‘Who you are is measured by how you make others feel’ What prohibits us from helping and encouraging others all the time? (Could it be our ego getting in the way?, Perhaps Tall Poppy Syndrome?)... When was the last time you proceeded with a random act of kindness for someone else? What was it? Who benefited? Did you expect something back in return? Task: Consider and plan ONE thing you can do for someone today here at school that has the potential to improve their day. It may be small like letting them in front of you in the tuckshop line, or even helping them complete a school work task they are finding difficult. . See more
