23.01.2022 Do you leave swathes of lawn area unmowed? Every time I mow I cant help thinking how futile it is (however satisfying)!

21.01.2022 Did you know that crystallisation is a completely natural process that does not alter the taste or nutrition of the honey in any way. Freshly produced honey is ...always liquid but with time some varieties of honeys are more likely to candy than others. You may also notice that your honey is starting to firm up as the mercury begins to drop. Its fairly simple to turn your honey back into a liquid again by gently warming it. Pop your jar or bottle in a container of warm water, and youll soon notice things start to loosen up. Its best to steer clear of the microwave, the risk over heating your honey and your jar is too great! And dont forget, theres nothing wrong with a nice thick smear of candied honey on a hot, buttered piece of toast
20.01.2022 As a seller of bees and Nucs, I interact with a wide range of new beekeepers. One of the greatest concerns I have is the often relentless desire to SEE the Quee...n . People poring through the hive feeling this is a beekeeping must. There is nothing more dangerous for your Queen than the continuous search to see her. So many end up rolling her. I suggest 1. Just check you have eggs and heathy brood, on a few frames, close the hive 2. If you see her, great! But not necessary 3. Her health is clearly manifested by her brood and a box full of bees See more

13.01.2022 Well winter is knocking at the front door of most hives in Australia . This is the time most beekeeping will find alot more dead or dying drone bee at the front... of the beehives or around there homes . Drones, male bees, are not physically capable of doing work around the hive. They cant sting, cant collect pollen or nectar, cant take care of the larvae, . They pretty much do only two things: eat and mate. and help with keeping the beehive temperature inside the hive warm .When the weather turns cold, drones are unable to perform their sole function and that is to mate with virgin Queens . If there are no queens around to mate with, then drones tend to eat alot of resources ( honey and pollen ) which is needed for the survival of the hive to get through winter . Worker bees will stop rearing drones. Any drones in winter will get thrown out by the worker bee , worker bees will stop feeding the drones making the lethargic and will drag them out if they try coming back in they can be stung to death . So if you see some dying bees around your home or at the front of your bee hive don't worry this is normal occurrence during winter #savethebeessavetheearth See more
12.01.2022 Humans and bees have been evolving together in unison for at least 10000 years. Bees have a similar ideas on beauty. We have similar yearnings when it comes to... flowers, perfume and #taste. As plants had no legs they had to evolve in ways that would enrol insects to be their legs. Flowers intuitively created elaborate costumes, perfumes and #nectar to attract bees that in turn ensures their survival through pollination. See more

09.01.2022 This is a wonderful thing. The beekeeper forgot to put the frame in his hive, so the bees just freestyled, building a structure that would best handle temperature and ventilation. Organic form. [via @Gsharptools]

06.01.2022 When a beekeeper forgot to put the frames back in the hive, the bees built this themselves. It takes into account airflow and temp regulation. Remarkable bees.
