24.01.2022 Today we celebrated Harmony Day. The children listened to a song So many colours, so many shapes We discussed what Harmony Day is all about and how Everyone Belongs. We spoke about places our families may have come from, and looked at the world map to find some of these countries. The story I’m Australian too, written by Mem Fox was read and orange coloured themed craft was also on offer to the children. Outcome 2: Children respond to diversity with respect.
24.01.2022 Being responsible and caring for our natural environment.
23.01.2022 Recycled and Loose Parts Day- Educators at Bees Nees are ever mindful of the impact we have on the environment, and by the use of sustainable practices and leading by example children are becoming more aware of the impact we have on the environment. Using recycled materials and loose parts children are becoming aware of the concepts of reduce, reuse, recycle and becoming more connected to the natural world around them.
21.01.2022 THIS IS ME! The Pintu children were excited to share their stories of what they did on Australia Day. As an extension of this, we read the story "I am Australian", by Mem Fox, and discussed that many people from different countries now live here in Australia. We discussed the first people of this land, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other cultures within our Bees Nees community.... The children recognised similarities and differences. No, we don't have the same colour skin or eyes, but we all have ears, nose and a mouth. Then, using mirrors to assist them, the children drew portraits of themselves. Learning Outcome 2 - Children connect and belong within their family and community, focusing on traditions, values and practices. Children explore diversity, culture and heritage. See more
21.01.2022 Thinking outside the box! The children are sharing humor and happiness, seeking new challenges, cooperating and collaborating with peers, developing spatial awareness and strengthening their muscles... all with just a box!
19.01.2022 It’s Vegetable week! Today the children were offered carrot sticks, corn and broccoli to try. Some of the children asked for seconds and thirds of these vegetables. We also made tomato salsa using cherry tomatoes from our garden and basil brought in from a friends garden. We enjoyed this salsa on some crackers! By offering children these experiences educators are using child directed learning- Each child’s agency is promoted, enabling them to make choices and decisions that influence their world.
19.01.2022 It’s Veggie Week and our veggie for the day was potato. We discussed where potatoes grow and what we can use potatoes for. A few Pintu friends said they have mashed potato at home so today the children practiced the skill of peeling, chopping and mashing the potatoes to make our own mash. By encouraging children to take more of a role in choosing, preparing and cooking simple foods, children actually end up trying, tasting and eating a larger variety. What does your child help you prepare at home?
18.01.2022 Children used collaboration, communication and problem solving skills to clear and prime the water pump. They used their core and large muscles in the body to push and pull the lever to get the pump working.
18.01.2022 Being responsible... Ensuring we leave our play spaces tidy and safe for others.
18.01.2022 We received a new resource from Transport for NSW - a kids and traffic lotto game. This will be a valuable resource for us, reinforcing pedestrian safety as we regularly leave the centre to go for a walk in our local community.
17.01.2022 This was us! Our team spent the afternoon at The Yoga Shed. Thanks so much Jenny... it was fantastic.
17.01.2022 Pintu friends dressed up as ‘Workmen’ and spontaneously discussed the meanings of the traffic signs displayed in our construction corner. As an extension on the children’s play, Educators provided the new ‘Talk Traffic with Kids’ Lotto game. The game gave educators an opportunity to intentionally teach and emphasis key road safety message. NQS standard 1.1- The educational program enhances each child’s learning and development.
17.01.2022 These are the knives that the children use when they help us cook at the centre.
16.01.2022 Mobilo...The children love creating with the mobilo. It is always a very popular experience. Construction based play is a wonderful way for children to further develop many skills they will use throughout life; creative and divergent thinking, problem solving, fine motor skills, spatial reasoning, language skills and mathematical concepts.
13.01.2022 Today’s veggie was snow peas. We explored the texture, colour and listened to the sounds we made taking our first bite. Oh so crunchie! It has been a great week exploring different vegetables and praising children for tasting each one. NQS 2.1.3 Healthy eating and physical activity are promoted and appropriate for each child.
12.01.2022 Happy birthday to our Educator and friend Cristy. We hope you have an amazing day and we are so glad that we were able to help you celebrate!
12.01.2022 The children have shown a great interest in resin set bugs over the last few weeks. Educators have been responsive to the children’s interest (EYLF Practice) and enriched their learning by asking questions and encouraging them to investigate the answers. Today the children used their existing knowledge and fine motor skills to build their own beetle.
11.01.2022 A great book for our friends starting Kindergarten
09.01.2022 When educators provide learning environments that are flexible and open ended they are allowing the children to become confident and involved learners. At this experience, the children are able to create their own track and use the loose parts provided to add to their play. Imagination, creativity and social skills are being developed too!
08.01.2022 Scholastic Book Club Issue 1 has been distributed into the children's communication pocket located in the foyer. Please collect this brochure next time you are in the centre.
07.01.2022 Stemming from a child interest, Maddi provided the materials to make a volcano this week. First, they covered a bottle with playdough before painting it. Then the children added bicarb soda, vinegar, along with food colouring, to make the volcano erupt. How does this occur? A chemical reaction between vinegar and baking soda creates a gas called carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is the same type of gas used to make the carbonation in sodas. The gas gets very excited and tries to spread out. However, there is not enough room in the bottle for the gas to spread out so it leaves through the opening very quickly, causing an eruption! This experiment was enjoyed by the children and will be revisited again next week.
07.01.2022 To assist our children to have a positive and successful transition into Kindergarten, we have been reading the story Daisy’s First Day. This book was given to us by the NSW Department of Education. Please see below to read the letter from the NSW Department of Education that we received with the book. Please visit www://education.nsw.gov/early-childhood-education for more resources and information on how to further assist in preparing your children for the Transition to School process.
07.01.2022 The children assisted Rachel to care for the worms and collect some worm juice today! It’s great for the gardens!

03.01.2022 We love going out into our local community. Today we went on a walking excursion to deliver some Bees Nees mail to our surrounding neighbours. The special mail delivery included beautiful artworks the children had created. The children were very excited to place the mail into all of the mailboxes. There were lots of discussions about houses, cars and the different kinds of mailboxes we saw. The children also collected some nature items to bring back to Bees Nees to add to our learning spaces. Our Bees Nees philosophy states that we involve ourselves in the local community by going on local walks.
01.01.2022 To continue on from delivering our mail on Monday, we received a beautiful card in our mailbox. This was from our neighbour Ivy thanking us for the artwork she received from our friends at Bees Nees. We appreciate the time you took to make our lovely card and look forward to maintaining a connection with you in the future.
