25.01.2022 It’s a beautiful morning at Ocean Thunder as #dialbeforeyoudig Batemans Bay comes in for its first win.
25.01.2022 Good news and bad news from the world of motorsport. Jon McCorkindale had a race lined up at The Bend this weekend. Sadly the SA Government kept the border closed. Good news is the #dialbeforeyoudig Super3 car will be at the Bathurst 1000 on the weekend of 17-18 October.
23.01.2022 The Sydney Morning Herald today reports the Australian Government has made #water supply a key priority for $100 billion in new construction projects. At #dialbeforeyoudig we respect the value of water in a dry continent. Do your bit by always locating and protecting networks when you dig.
23.01.2022 It’s 20 years today since the opening ceremony for the Sydney Olympics. But at #dialbeforeyoudig, when we see this video we think of the #NaturalGas, #water and #electricity that made it work. And the #opticalfibre cables that took the video to the world. When the networks are damaged the services stop. Do your part by always locating and protecting them. www.1100.com.au
22.01.2022 The NSW Government has budgeted for $107bn in infrastructure in the next four years. The expenditure is designed to kick start the NSW economy, with unemployment forecast to hit 7.5%. #dialbeforeyoudig inquiries in September and October 2020 were very close to 2019. But overall construction is expected to shrink 10% this year. Today the Premier launched Sydney Metro - NSW GOV to Parramatta. Whatever the size of your project, you have a duty to locate and protect underground networks. https://www.smh.com.au//nsw-charges-ahead-with-107-billion
19.01.2022 If any DBYD Certification Ltd locators in South Australia need masks, email [email protected]. Our team will send you a pack of washable #dialbeforeyoudig masks and sanitiser. Best wishes during lockdown to our colleagues at Dial Before You Dig SA/NT
19.01.2022 #dialbeforeyoudig member Parramatta Light Rail shared a webinar this morning on Parramatta colonial archaeology. It’s a reminder that our history was often shaped by underground services. Or the lack of them. Alcohol, known as Rum, was a currency in the early colony. It also killed the bacteria that flourished in #water before we had a hygienic delivery network. Similarly drainage and sewerage were important public works in colonial times. From 38mins there is a summary of the major drains found on the light rail route.
19.01.2022 Winter heating used to be the peak #electricity load. Now it’s summer air conditioning. So today’s power outage in Parramatta on the hottest November day in five years came at a bad time. It wasn’t a cable damage. But it was another reminder of how much we rely on electricity. Traffic signals failed causing gridlock. So as we head into summer, be sure locate and protect underground cables.
18.01.2022 A Random Sighting of a #dialbeforeyoudig sticker on an RPS Group van yesterday. Order free stickers for your fleet and show support for safe digging. www.beforeyoudignswact.com.au/merchandise/order-merchandise/
18.01.2022 A #NaturalGas fire Thursday night was very close to home. Less than 50m from the #dialbeforeyoudig office in Newington. We don't know the details of this fire, or whether it was caused by a digging damage. But it is a reminder of the need to locate and protect gas and #electricity networks above all. It's the law in NSW. Thanks to Fire and Rescue NSW for dealing with the fire so professionally. See Comments below for pictures, courtesy Fire & Rescue NSW.
18.01.2022 SafeWork NSW is targeting #electricity safety on construction sites. For the rest of 2020, inspectors will conduct drop-in inspections across a range of sites to check they have the right controls in place to manage electrical risks. They will speak with principal contractors, site supervisors, and health and safety representatives state-wide to ensure workers are safe when it comes to overhead and underground power. SafeWork said "Employers and site supervisors can ensure a #dialbeforeyoudig search has been undertaken if excavation works are being conducted on-site. Pothole to identify the location and depth, and protect the infrastructure before proceeding. Remember: If You Don’t Know Don’t Dig."
17.01.2022 Today is the start of the surf lifesaving season. It was great to watch the #dialbeforeyoudig surf boat with Tweed MP Geoff Provest and David Parker from Newcastle Permanent. Stay safe in the surf this summer!
16.01.2022 Round 4 of the Ocean Thunder Surf Boat Series is scheduled for 7 November. Strict social distancing rules will limit the beach to competitors only. The 2020/21 series is scheduled to begin in January 2021. #dialbeforeyoudig is proud to be a supporter of this surf boat event.
14.01.2022 Valves are shown on #dialbeforeyoudig plans. They are needed in emergencies to cut off supply to networks like #water and #NaturalGas. But too often crews find the valves buried under concrete or tiles. Don’t make their jobs any harder. Take care to leave valves as you found them.
14.01.2022 It was great to catch up with Solo Water today. The office has views of Mount Warning. Solo runs a #water network in Lake Macquarie. #dialbeforeyoudig has 140 member networks in NSW/ACT. It’s important to prevent damage to all networks, large and small.
12.01.2022 The wind has turned southerly at Ocean Thunder. Best of luck to all #dialbeforeyoudig crews in the finals this afternoon. Here’s Mona Vale in the heats grabbing silver with help from the announcer. UPDATE: Congratulations #dialbeforeyoudig Bulli Surf Life Saving Club, winners of the men’s division.
12.01.2022 Everyone’s in a hurry to get the job done. These builders were inspired by the pit crews in professional Motorsport. But sometimes corners are cut in the rush. Hitting an underground pipe or cable can bring a site to a stop. People and machinery sit idle while the damage is repaired. So #dialbeforeyoudig, locate and protect networks. And then everyone can get home safely.
11.01.2022 Thanks to Hunter Water for inviting us to talk about safe digging today. We brought some #dialbeforeyoudig masks for the crews.
10.01.2022 2020 has been challenging. And today is R U OK Day. This year you are more likely than ever to hear No in reply. But that makes it even more important to ask the question.
10.01.2022 Sydney Water and Jemena have announced a joint venture to generate biomethane and inject it into the Sydney #NaturalGas network. The project will supply 95,000GJ of biomethane a year from 2022. This will be enough to meet the gas needs of 6,300 homes. At #dialbeforeyoudig we welcome this project, which will reduce carbon emissions by as much as 5,000 tonnes each year. Keep the #sewers and energy flowing by always locating and protecting underground networks.
09.01.2022 Thanks to Hunter Water for the invitation to discuss #dialbeforeyoudig with work crews today. Your company can also have a free online safe digging seminar. Email [email protected]
06.01.2022 The Port Kembla Gas Terminal is designed to supply 75% of NSW’s gas needs by 2022. The terminal will have a floating storage and regasification unit with wharf facilities for LNG carrier vessels. A 12km pipeline will connect the terminal to the Eastern Gas Pipeline. Jemena will spend $70m building the link and increasing capacity on the Eastern Gas Pipeline. It will then be able to deliver over 200TJ of gas from NSW to Victoria and up to 450TJ of gas per day to NSW/ACT. Transmission pipelines support the economy of our State. Always #dialbeforeyoudig and follow the special rules set by the pipeline manager.
06.01.2022 Congratulations to Jon McCorkindale, crowned ACT karting champion today. Next stop Bathurst in the #dialbeforeyoudig Super3.
05.01.2022 It was great to catch up with Rhys at Plant Assessor this week. Plant Assessor is the largest qualified machinery inspection team in Australia. They put thousands of #dialbeforeyoudig stickers every year on the machines they assess. We can send free stickers to your business too. Ask for some at www.beforeyoudignswact.com.au/merchandise/order-merchandise/
03.01.2022 Modern excavators have an amazing variety of different attachments. There’s a bucket, drill, hammer or cutter for every task. But they can also damage underground networks. So #dialbeforeyoudig, locate and protect networks on every job.
03.01.2022 Last week a surveyor was called out to an emergency during a #dialbeforeyoudig online safe digging seminar. A member of the NSW SES, the surveyor was called to help a woman swept out to sea. Fortunately he was able to complete the seminar. If you need CPD points for your job as a builder, surveyor or other industry professional, enrol in one of our free online seminars. Hopefully it will be plain sailing. 03.01.2022 Pits, manholes and valves are useful indicators to the networks below. They can also harbour wildlife. Like this snake DBYD Certification Ltd locator Garry McCorkindale found in a Telstra pit in rural NSW. In cities used needles can also find their way into pits. So take care before you stick your hand in there.
03.01.2022 Today Telstra announced a split of its infrastructure arm into two separate entities. InfraCo Fixed will own and operate Telstra's physical infrastructure assets (ducts, #opticalfibre cables, data centres, subsea cables and exchanges). InfraCo Towers will own and operate Telstra's mobile tower assets. At #dialbeforeyoudig we know the towers rely on Telstra's cable network. Analysts say that the split will unlock the value in Telstra's networks. Because they are often hidden, people often take networks for granted. But no services can be offered without them. So keep the networks running by locating and protecting pipes and cables before you dig.
02.01.2022 Yesterday’s news on the joint venture between Sydney Water and Jemena reminded us that few things are new. This lamp has been using #sewer gases to light the streets of London for 125 years. The patented design uses the heat generated from the flame to lift biogas from the sewer below. Burning the gas in this way reduces the risk of fire or explosion from trapped gas. Now utilities in Sydney are taking this idea to a new plane.
02.01.2022 Sometimes life imitates art. Yesterday severe storms swept through Newcastle bringing down #electricity lines. This photo from Ausgrid is similar to a promotion from 2012. Sadly in real life you can’t just roll up the surface to see what’s below. But you can still #dialbeforeyoudig, locate and protect networks.
01.01.2022 From Thursday the only way to log a job with #dialbeforeyoudig will be online at www.1100.com.au. The mobile website is the best way to log a job while onsite. This lets us keep the service free of charge.
