24.01.2022 The Story of Bowls. Continuation of "Outlawed Bowls" 'Inventive and Crafty Persons' Part 1; Of all the threatening Acts, the most interesting is the 33rd if Henry V111 in 1541. In Henry's reign occurs in the first statutory mention of the word 'bowls', and from the 1541 edict, we learn that the conditions of 'bowyers, fletchers (arrow - makers), stringers and arrowheadmakers' had grown desperate from the 'customable usage' of bowls and other games devised by 'many subtil in...ventive and crafty Persons'. It was accordingly enacted that no person was to keep an alley or place of bowling for 'gain, lucre or living', nor suffer the game to be played, subject to a penalty of forty shillings for every day on which the law was broken. Section 12 declared that everyone who played was 'to forfeit for every time so doing 6s.8d.'. Moreover, magistrate's and other competent persons were enjoined to visit places and alleys to ascertain whether forbidden games were secretly pursued and, if so, to arrest and imprison players and keepers alike until they found bail. J. A. Manson, 1912

16.01.2022 For thoughs of you who missed the Live Video broadcast of the weekends Champion of Champions Competition Saturday & Sunday then read this Facebook explanation at the bottom of this Post, on activating it on your phone. All the same, whilst it was my first time attending a major Zone Competition, I would say, it was inspirational to view such precise delivery of the players Bowls. Congratulations to Cooma Bowling Club player Stephen Greg on he's win over Club Sapphire's player Ken Snowdon. Younger player Stephen appeared to have the edge over Ken mid way through the game but an experienced Ken with his normal fighting spirit brought the score even at 29-29. It was only at the last end where a the younger player finalised the game by ending with 3 bowls at the head. Completing the score, 32-29.

04.01.2022 ROLL UP PRACTISE; a message from our greens keeper Ken Snowdon and BBC Committee. To all member and visitor bowlers, when turning up for your weekly bowls practise, please start at the furthest end of the greens rinks that is unmarked as "Rink Closed'. This is to both top and bottom greens. In order to maintain a constant quality and for grass to rest in between play. On completion of your practise session, on the rink just used, please always retire this rink with a "Closed Rink" sign from the maroon cigarette/rink marker tray.
