13.01.2022 FLAGS FLYING HIGH IN BEGA Timor Leste (East Timor) was internationally recognised as an independent nation on this day in 2002. To mark the 16 year friendshi...p between our Pacific neighbour and the Bega Valley, representatives of the Bega Valley Advocates For Timor-Leste and Council gathered to raise all our countries flags in Littleton Gardens today. Those present were Mayor Sharon Tapscott, Council GM Leanne Barnes and from the Advocates Dave Gallen, Tim Holt Jo Woodhouse and Bob Grasby. Mr Gallen reflected on the contribution Bega Valley donations and generosity was having on the ground in Timor Leste including support for four graduating teachers this year and improved water supply to around 50 families. "They are very thankful for the kind hearts of the Bega Valley," he said. Like the rest of the world Timor Leste is living with the threat of COVID-19 but our friends are doing well so far with no deaths reported and 21 of the 24 confirmed cases in the country listed as recovered. The economic impact will perhaps be harder with the tourism and oil markets hit. Plans for a tour of Timorese performers to the Bega Valley and Australia this year have had to be put on hold because of the virus. "We are ready to go again once the restrictions have been lifted and its safe," Mr Gallen said. "Thank you to the Bega Valley and groups like Rotary and Council for your ongoing support."

10.01.2022 More graduation photos!

10.01.2022 May I suggest that Friendship Groups SHARE on their FB page and with all their Timorese friends; this official announcement of the first case of Covid-19 in Timor-Leste, explaining its symptoms and the best hygiene practices to prevent catching the virus.

09.01.2022 Parabens to our graduates: Anna, Angelita, Francisco, Aurelia and Olandina!

05.01.2022 Wonderful to be able to take part and hear about many great projects happening in Timor-Leste.
