25.01.2022 Our Child Development Officer/Playgroup Leader, Erin, and ChIld Development Officer, Kaycee, set up some loose parts and children went to work with their amazing imaginations and play skills. So many conversations, so many ideas so little time! The car that was originally built with expert guidance from Alex, soon became a plane when others arrived. We travelled to the beach, the shops and to our camp spot where two camp fires where built and many marshmallows and sausages w...ere cooked. Some children discovered the small balls and plastic pipes so Kaycee and Educators Leanne and Ash helped the children create a ramp to roll the balls. At group time we talked about the different animals that live in habitat boxes in the nearby trees and we looked at box number one, wondering how they got the box up so high - the consensus was a very tall ladder . To end we read Owl Babies. See more

25.01.2022 Children who are showing symptoms of illness should not attend care. Keeping children at home when unwell supports the health and well-being of our Family Day Care and wider community. We are very grateful for the understanding and support of our families. Our educators have been pleased to note the reduction of illness circulating in their services this year. If you are unsure whether your child is well enough to attend care or not, please contact your educator or the co-ordination unit.

08.01.2022 Hooray! We finally met for a playgroup . Despite the closed roads, soggy grass and threatening weather we enjoyed a lovely morning. The children made the most of the climbing and balancing equipment, soccer goals, balls and bats, beanbag throw and chasing bubbles. We had a look at the raging flood waters (from a distance) and a huge tree that has fallen down. Macey thought perhaps "the BOVID" had blown it down . We went on a short walk and the children discovered a wombat hole which Lane explained was where the wombat was able to access the river and go "under the water". High up in one tree we could see a nesting box that Joslyn thought was for birds. To end we read "Wombat Stew" that Luke knew lots of the words too. As she left, Joslyn remarked "We had a lovely day"

04.01.2022 IRON DEFICIENCY & BEHAVIOUR Most of us know that having low levels of iron can make us tired. But did you know it can have the opposite effect in kids? Iron ...deficiency in children has been associated with many symptoms including Hyperactivity Bad sleep Poor concentration Disruptive behaviour Poor academic performance Does this sound like another diagnosis? Mmm..... It can be all too easy to label a child with a behavioural problem without asking why. I think it’s essential to always look for the root cause and this includes diet and lifestyle factors that can be addressed. The majority of children I test are iron deficient. Yes, I’m selecting children to test based on their clinical history but it’s also the most common nutritional deficiency in Australia Thankfully though, once diagnosed, it’s easy to treat with dietary changes and supplements. But please don’t be tempted to start your child on iron replacement without first speaking with a healthcare provider. It’s important to confirm the diagnosis and then calculate the dose required. Taking too much iron is toxic #healthykids #thrivekids #foodismedicine #lifestylemedicine #drdeb #nutrition
