24.01.2022 Peyton now on day 3 is settling in nicely. Confident about technique and expectations and completes this exercise perfectly. Features: clear speech. Nicely in time. Nice tapping. Nice even spelling. No rushing or stress evident. All these things were poor on days 1 and 2. Peyton is able to sense she is doing well and intrinsically has satisfaction through the neurochemistry associated with getting correct answers every 10 to 20 seconds. It’s like little shots of endorphins one after the other. Phil

24.01.2022 Join me for the next fortnight as I begin aBRPOD journey with a new student and you can watch everything as I go. Firstly I will check age strengths and weaknesses

24.01.2022 Young Okky is a very bright lad and over thinks many tasks as shown here and solving this requires a large number of repetitions doing a single task to stabilise it as a learned sequence. This example shows us how the problem solving mindset taught in school encourages a scattergun framework with nothing well bedded in. The result is a very bright lad with incredible lateral thinking but struggling to develop foundational literacy and learning skills. Likely described as dyslexic to most but I believe his instruction requires deliberate steps to get around his innate preferences to bed in the essential foundational skills. Let’s see how he progresses

23.01.2022 This is the third step in the sequence for learning timetables BUT the true purpose of this exercise is to develop sophisticated sequencing abilities and abstract thinking sequences. These are used and applied in myriad aspects of our intelligent activities

21.01.2022 Here is S doing those sound snips again Fast accurate consistent

20.01.2022 Olly keeps asking about when we will finish the lesson and there are plenty of clocks clearly around him. This persistent question gives us a potential insight about him. Turning 9 yo soon it is reasonable that he should be able to tell time. Is it a number problem, vision sequence analogue digital. It poses many questions to be explored Are things causing this problem contributing to his ‘dyslexia’ or is it different and they are unrelated?

20.01.2022 Some really nice data can be seen from two primary schools in NSW if you have a look on the website. Thanks to the efforts of those dedicated teachers concerned. Phil

19.01.2022 A really exciting day today with S coming along so very well. The special improvement today saw me show the consistent letters in a families of words. After only 5 reps this has been generalised to near 100 percent accurate stand by for the next video to see this in action

19.01.2022 CL was worn out and took 4 days off from POD and has come back far better. The power of rest and a holiday. Strategic use of breaks can achieve so much more. Improve by doing nothing. Now that is smartness the BRPOD way. Happy holidays everyone. Phil

18.01.2022 CHANGE IS HERE WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT https://www.politico.com//coronavirus-effect-economy-life- The world will be changed - well it already has in only a few months.... BRPOD has something to offer this brave new world where the mega sized organizations control the thinking and offerings to everyone. Little people will have a voice again, so I am wanting to assemble a group to help me with BRPOD, especially in these difficult times where we have had some of our support already withdrawn for health reasons. It will look like this: Webinars as an online delivery of POD through a platform like Zoom, with me as the senior instructor providing real time classes streamed online with everyone in digital land working on their own computer at home. For me the specialist knowledge is the easy part. The setting up the technology and webinar is difficult for me so need help. I propose its for everyone by making it not a fee payable, but by donations to fund this. Eventually we can recruit and train others to add to/or replace me (if I get the bug and die :( If there is anyone out there able to help me get the webinar concept going it would be appreciated. regards Phil

14.01.2022 Please support us to support you. best wishes Phil

12.01.2022 PROJECT2020 TEACH 2020 KIDS TO READ IN 2020 A BRPOD initiative Lets get behind it everyone

11.01.2022 I have finally been brave enough to put my book up on the site. It’s comprehensively unfinished. On purpose. My dream is that interested people will engage and fix it up but that can be read within the introduction.

10.01.2022 To celebrate our new website launch, we are now offering our Online Literacy and Brain Training Courses for FREE! www.behaviouralreading.com.au BRPOD exceeds in treating dyslexia in students (8+ years) and adults needing help from remediation up to elite performance.... Most of our users see results within 12 daily sessions... BRPOD has proven to be highly successful, achieving a performance ratio as high as 92:1. There’s no reason not to give it a try... Tag and share with anyone you know that may benefit from our Training Courses.

10.01.2022 Memory is about episodes of the skill and it allows the brain to prune and refine at the Dendrite level. This whole preparation for Timetables has been filmed here to show how quick it is. Olly was asked to do that sequence a few times through his day. Let’s see what it looks like tomorrow!

09.01.2022 Rapid Reverse Spelling revisited from a few days ago seen here with a much more difficult selection of words is managed with apparent ease. Note the momentary pause at the last word. For advanced practitioners of POD the question is, why is this pause occurring?

08.01.2022 CLo this morning improved reading at the letter level enormously as seen here by the reverse spelling. Try it by writing down four similar words then spell them all forward and then in reverse. Use simple word groups like bet get met set or bit hit sit lit. I bet your struggling reader can do it pretty well forward’s but with a huge mismatch when going backwards.

08.01.2022 Tahlia has persisted for several years but after tackling her challenges from many different angles a vital observation was made. There was a major misconnect in her visual processing. I had explored solutions and solved the riddle though it was a clumsy solution. Patching an eye with a translucent lens helped. Making the patched eye translucent (obscured) but tinted dark red helped more. This took her reading from Prep to Grade 7 ability instantaneously. I thought Irlen tints may be a better solution. They were. Watch and see what happens in this unedited video. Phil

06.01.2022 Fluent reading LETTERS ONLY. At the bottom of the poster you will see 2 and 3 letter groupings. The letters are random and the task is to simply read them fluently together. Firstly use the 2 letters then try the 3 letters with your struggling reader. After that go up to the story and read as ‘spell2’s’. Wa lk. Ed. Fo. Ra. Lo. Ng. Ti etc have a 2 second rest between each pair. You will find that most poor readers even adults will struggle with doing this task. It reveals a lot about the fluency sequencing used by the reader and is a simple test and teaching strategy. After all if you can’t read two letters fluently what chance will you have of reading words in a sentence fluently. Have fun Philip Gruhl

05.01.2022 Today Peyton begins wearing glasses that have different eye colours. Red on one eye and nothing on the other. This tricks the brain into not thinking it has ever done reading before and gives us a chance to remap the brain reading processes. Look at the next picture and I will show what I mean. The coloured things are brain scans and something learned very well will map like the centre image ie small tidy and organised. The image on the right is a mess caused by poor learning technique. This applies to everything we learn to do

04.01.2022 This morning Olly shows us how he has difficulties with the sequencing. The task of spelling in reverse while looking at the word demonstrates this clearly. Sequencing is rarely addressed as a core foundational skill but is an essential prerequisite for efficient reading fluency. Standby and I will show how I use timetable patterning to correct this problem.

03.01.2022 Phil Gruhl showing parents and teachers how to use the simple methods and techniques of Behavioural Reading. These incredibly fast and simple techniques will have your child reading better from their very first effort. In fact I can guarantee you will see improvement in your kids reading if you watch the video link and use these skills. These videos are free to use :) https://www.behaviouralreading.com.au/resources

03.01.2022 The BR website is getting a makeover. We are after a nice clean fresh and fast site. I am building every day so have a visit and see how you find it and let me know your suggestions. regards Phil
