23.01.2022 The low FODMAP diet doesn’t need to be hard if you focus on making simple swaps for high FODMAP foods. Here are some of our favourites: Swap high FODMAP fruits... like apples, pears, blackberries, and peaches for oranges, firm banana (no brown spots), strawberries and mandarins. Swap honey for pure maple syrup Swap regular cows’ milk for lactose free milk, almond milk, macadamia milk, soy milk made from soy protein, or rice milk. Swap garlic for garlic infused oil Swap onion for the green leaves of leek or spring onion (only use the leaves and avoid eating the bulb) or chives Swap button mushrooms for oyster mushrooms Check your low FODMAP app for serving size information.

20.01.2022 Withania somnifera, commonly known as Ashwagandha, has become increasingly popular over the years! It has an array of health benefits, but is probably most well...-known for its ability to reduce the stress hormone, cortisol; helping to increase energy while also reducing feelings of stress. Powerful herbs like Withania somnifera, are best discussed with a qualified Clinical Naturopath or Herbalist, who can take into consideration your health history and any medications you may be taking, as well as assess which herb matches your situation best. 17.01.2022 Older adults taking drugs with anticholinergic effectssuch as some antihistamines like Benadryl, some bladder-control drugs like Ditropan, some gut anti-spasmo...dics like Bentyl, some antidepressants, and othersare at greater risk for developing cognitive decline as well as experiencing dizziness, disorientation, and impaired functioning. You may wish to work with your physician to find alternative medications. Many of these conditions may be addressed without the anti-cholinergic drugs, and thus without the risk for cognitive decline, by adopting a healthy protocol as described in #TheEndofAlzheimersProgram. 16.01.2022 Are you running on empty? Your body makes energy from the food you eat; the digestive system breaks down carbohydrates (found in foods such as vegetables and g...rains) to produce glucose, which is moved into your cells to create energy, or stored for later use. This process is controlled by the hormone, insulin, which is responsible for keeping a steady flow of glucose into your cells, and therefore an even flow of energy for your body’s needs. Insulin’s ability to do its job relies on certain nutrients, however, it is common for many individuals to fall short of getting enough of these nutrients from their diet. On top of this, stressful events and certain medications can also deplete your nutrient levels by increasing the demand for particular nutrients, affecting their absorption from the gut, or by increasing clearance of these nutrients from the body. If you keep hitting a slump, speak to your healthcare professional about key nutrients like magnesium, vitamin D, zinc and chromium. They’ll be able to talk to you about your individual circumstances and RDI (Recommended Daily Intakes) for each, to ensure you are getting enough! 14.01.2022 A classic side effect of a stressful day or event, is that come bedtime, you’re battling with a mind that simply won’t turn off to fall asleep, or wakes you mul...tiple times across the night still going a million miles an hour. If this has been you, staring at the ceiling wishing desperately you were asleep, you know firsthand the negative impact stress can have on our sleep. Our circadian rhythms were designed to have us starting the day awake and energised, and slowly start to feel sleepy and ready for bed come evening. Going through a stressful day or period can then begin to disrupt this natural cycle, where higher levels of cortisol and adrenaline during the day leads to the improper or diminished production of sleep-promoting melatonin at night. Feeling stressed is certainly a part of life at times, however, experiencing longer-term stress and the overexposure to cortisol and other stress hormones that follow can disrupt almost all your body's processes. As you may not be able to change your current situation, you can take steps to manage the impact these events have on you. For tailored advice on how to reduce stress in your particular case, speak with a Healthcare Practitioner. https://www.metagenics.com.au/FindAPractitioner in Australia, https://www.metagenics.co.nz/FindAPractitioner in New Zealand.

14.01.2022 Staying hydrated is very important. Our body needs fluid to maintain the function of every system. Staying hydrated... can prevent: thirst, hunger, dry skin, constipation, tiredness, irritability, mood swings, dizziness and headaches. So in a nutshell: staying hydrated = important. When you are on the low FODMAP diet, your fluid requirements do not change. Currently, it is recommended that the average Australian consume 30mL per kilogram of body weight. It is very common not to notice the ingredient list in the beverages we consume, because we are so focused on the food component of the low FODMAP diet. But it is important to remember, what we drink is just as important as what we eat when it comes to the low FODMAP diet. Here are some alternatives to water that are safe to consume on the low FODMAP diet. Keep in mind that coffee can be a gut irritant even though it is low FODMAP. Got a question? Pop it down below! 11.01.2022 With so much information and advice about what nutrients children need, there is one mineral that shouldn’t be overlooked, and that’s magnesium! Children requi...re magnesium for an array of important things, including bone development, energy production and regulating mood. The magnesium dosage for kids may vary as per the age of the child and just like adults, stress and intensive exercise are common factors that can deplete their bodies of magnesium. The good news is that your children can get the RDI of magnesium by making just a few changes to their diet. The bad news is, sometimes children are fussy eaters! If you feel your child may be missing magnesium, talk to your natural healthcare Practitioner who can recommend the right magnesium supplement at the right dosage to suit your child’s needs. 07.01.2022 Recommended dietary intakes (RDIs) for magnesium range from 310 mg/day (females) to 420 mg/day (males), pending different life stages (of course!) However, thes...e RDIs don't take into consideration when your body has an increased demand or is actively deficient in magnesium, meaning you may need even more to meet your needs. Magnesium is found in a wide variety of foods, especially green leafy vegetables, wholegrains, nuts, legumes and dark chocolate! So you may think this can easily be obtained from consuming roughly one cup of cooked green vegetables, a handful of nuts, and a raw cacao smoothie. Sounds doable right? Unfortunately, that’s not what everyone is eating, with magnesium-deficient refined and processed foods creeping onto people plates. We’ve included some delicious magnesium-rich foods below, that you can easily find at the grocery store to include on your next shopping list. To learn more about magnesium, watch this short video here - https://vimeo.com/283828625 and/or speak to your Metagenics Practitioner. 07.01.2022 How do we ensure that informationwhether about COVID-19 or Alzheimer’s or the presidential electionis accurate? Recent complaints that misinformation about CO...VID-19 is being spread over Facebook because there is no fact-checking may be fairbut what about the misinformation that is propagated daily by mainstream medicine? The failure to modernize, the overreliance on ineffective drugs that fail to address the root cause of disease, and the focus on business instead of health, have all led to much-needed integrative approaches initiated by physician pioneers and citizen scientists. We are in the midst of the bloodiest revolution in history, fought by aggressive pharmaceutical companies, large healthcare corporations, and third-party payers using over-priced drugs and padded medical bills as weapons, yet the medical community fails to acknowledge its role. 04.01.2022 Let's talk about Lutein and Zeaxanthin! They are powerful antioxidants known as carotenoids, they both have a variety of health benefits, but are best known for... their role in eye health and vision. Lutein and Zeaxanthin are deposited in the retina (which is the lining at the back of the eye) and they play an important role in helping our eyes offset the negative effects of blue light. As research has shown, exposure to blue light in the evenings can disrupt our sleep, as it suppresses the natural production of the sleep hormone melatonin, resulting in delayed sleep onset and poor sleep quality. Therefore, artificial blue light exposure should be addressed! If you are experiencing insufficient or inadequate sleep, it may be worth speaking to your Natural Healthcare Practitioner about how Lutein and Zeaxanthin could be of benefit to you. #lutein #zeaxanthin #health #metagenicsanz #carotenoids #antioxidants #eye #vision #bluelight #health #sleep See more

04.01.2022 While situational stress is a normal part of life, stress management is a crucial part of maintaining physically and mentally healthy. It is important to note t...hat long-term stress over months and years can impact your whole body. Our bodies need to maintain a balance of acidity for optimal health, as stressors build-up, the body might struggle to maintain this balance. During stressful periods our bodies may become more acidic. To manage systemic acidosis, diet must be the focus, however, supplementation can support the body while dietary changes are being made. Potassium citrate is an effective alkalising agent. Not only is potassium an alkalising agent, citrate is metabolised to bicarbonate in the body, which may help maintain an optimal pH in the body. Magnesium supplementation has been shown to affect all elements of the body’s reactions to stress, exerting a neuroprotective effect. As feeling stressed is certainly a part of life at times, your Natural Healthcare Practitioner can assist when choosing the right nutrients and stress-busting supplements and practices, as well as tailored advice to best suit your needs and lifestyle. 01.01.2022 Let’s talk about sleep cycles! Typical sleep architecture consists of an 80 to 120 minute sleep cycle which incorporates various stages, including non-REM and... REM sleep. Non-REM sleep is marked by stages one through to four. REM sleep, is where muscle tone is at its most relaxed, and is the phase where dreaming can occur. The cycle then repeats itself, but as the night continues, you spend less time in the deeper stages three and four of sleep and more time in REM sleep. Sleep stages are important because they allow the brain and body to recuperate. Most adults typically need to complete this cycle three to five times in one evening, meaning they require 6 to 9 hours sleep (it varies for each person). If you’re struggling with getting enough sleep, or you wake up not feeling refreshed, speak to your healthcare professional! Addressing any underlying issues, may pave the way for more complete and restorative sleep cycles. See more
