25.01.2022 Got to Love seeing RYLA going virtual this year. With the help of a creative coaching staff (RYLA Alumni) and a staff of awesome Rotarians. We are going to be ...able to bring this conference to life via zoom which will be extra special then in years past! What I have learned from working with this program is that not even a pandemic will stop us from putting on a great event for high school student leaders! See more

25.01.2022 Painting the walls at The Shepherd Centre, Rivett Community Project A small motley group of Belconnen Rotary members met at the Shepherd Centre armed with dropsheets, rollers, brushes and ladders all keen to get on with the job at hand. A number of rooms within the centre were in desperate need of a facelift!... Pairing off, they mixed and poured paint, applied masking tape and draped the furniture and carpets. The paint splashed and squelched as the rollers were dipped in and slid across the avocado green walls and doors. By lunchtime, the first coats had been applied and were awaiting their seconds.

24.01.2022 RRR (Recover Rehabiliate Reuse) Rod Gardiner's Pipe Dream Project... Rod coordinated the recovery of the steel pipe from fencing structures along the old Belconnen busway. The whole operation involved 10 members of Rotary Clubs of Gunghalin, Hall and Belconnen. They worked over eight days to prepare, strap and stack the pipes for transportion from Cord Civil's work site to National Mail & Marketing in Hume. In the process Brian Goldstraw manufactured a special frame to aid in the use of metal strapping to band bundles of pipes and later to act as a method of holding multiple bundles for transit from Hume to recipients. Rotarians are people of action. September 2020

21.01.2022 Did you know the Rotary Zone 8 Conference, "Spring into Alice" is on this weekend? The first session, hosted by PRIP Noel Trevaskis had speakers ranging from RIP Holger Knaack (on line from Germany), PRIP Ian Risley, PRID Stuart Heal (NZ), Rotaract National Chair Samantha Frewster (in Perth) and Purple House Coordinator and Zone 8 Humanitarian Award recipient Sarah Brown (live from Alice Springs). Jenny Herring from New Zealand also presented a video depicting Rotary New Ze...aland Projects. The main theme has been how Rotary has changed, enabled and opened opportunities for people who would otherwise not have had the means to do so. Will you join in tomorrow?

20.01.2022 Rotary is all about connecting with our community and our community leaders to make good things happen. We recently welcomed Paul McCooey from Splash Internet ...to share his story at one of our meetings and we were all blown away by his passion for our community what he does through his business. From the spark of an idea, Paul has built a very successful local business that has a great reputation for fantastic customer service. In recognition of his work, Pambula Rotary has awarded Paul a Vocational Service Award - he is pictured here receiving his award from Jill Goodchild, our Vocational Service Director. Please join us in congratulating Paul on his fine vocational leadership in our community! #PambulaRotary #RotaryLeaders #WeConnect See more

20.01.2022 Imperfection is better than inaction! As zero-waste chef Anne-Marie Bonneau once stated, We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need ...millions of people doing it imperfectly. Pick one thing to do with sustainability in mind and do that. That is enough. It’s just one plastic knife, said 1.2 million Rotarians that’s 1.2 million fewer plastic knives; over three tonnes of plastic saved from landfill! 07.01.2022 Rotary presence in the Pacific region was recently bolstered by the return of Rotary to the small island nation of Kiribati. The newly chartered Rotary Club of ...Tarawa, Rotary District 9920 - Auckland and the Pacific Islands, has hit the ground running by partnering with Richfield Rotary Club, Utah Rotary District 5420, and the Rotary Club of Otahuhu, Rotary District 9920 - Auckland and the Pacific Islands, to score a whopping $100,000 global grant for the Kiribati Sanitation Project. The project will provide three Betio communities with access to high-standard sanitation buildings, each comprising of five toilets and two shower facilities for the shared use of all families. More than 110 households and 500 individuals will directly benefit from the sanitation project to provide facilities and WASH training for happier and healthier solutions for the people in these three communities. 06.01.2022 An amazing project from RC Coonabarabran...

05.01.2022 RRR Operations (Recover, Rehabilitate and Reuse) The RRR team (attached to the Rotary Club of Belconnen) provides assistance to Rotarians across our region to facilitate projects within our communities. The RRR team's common philosophy is, 'If not, why not?... Crookwell Rotary instigated the Roofing Recovery Project. They deliver product to RRR team to coordinate its onwards transfer to needy recipients. Material transfers to Bumbalong are coordinated by Tuggeranong Rotary while those to Tumburumba are coordinated by Tumburumba Rotary. Whilst servicing the project it became obvious that other farmers affected by floods and drought were also looking for assistance. Amongst that group are some of our own Trash and Treasure farmer stallholders. Other future recipients are those identified by Rotary Bega, Pambula and Merimbula for assistance with water storage and sanitation remediation projects including roofing for water catchment. This is an expanding project with four roofing recovery projects over next three weeks. We are in a temporary holding pattern awaiting the uplift of our second semitrailer load for Tumburumba which should free up space at National Mail & Marketing Hume for ongoing storage/transfer needs. 03.01.2022 Most people have heard of Rotary Youth Exchange, the world’s biggest and best-known student cultural exchange program. But not everyone would know that it came ...about thanks to Australian Rotarians. Since it was conceived, Rotary Youth Exchange, or as it was once known, Rotary Student Exchange, has become one of Rotary’s most respected and valuable programs. The current Rotary Youth Exchange program had its genesis in an exchange between Australian Rotary clubs and clubs in Nebraska, US, back in 1959. The program’s ongoing success over the following years led to its official adoption worldwide in 1972. It started at an international assembly of Rotary governors, held at Lake Placid in the US in 1958. Harley Shaver, a past governor from Nebraska, asked many of those present to go home and consider a new idea of student exchange. This proposed exchange would enable students to spend a year in a different country, in a different culture, while going to school. Joe Bradbury, an incoming governor from District 280, Australia, accepted the challenge of an exchange between his district and the district in Nebraska, currently Rotary International District 5450. Joe asked two enthusiastic Rotarians, Peter Barnett, of Myrtleford Rotary and Clive Schliebs, of the Rotary Club of Wangaratta (@rotarywangaratta.org.au), now Rotary District 9790 (@rotary9790), to both develop the program’s rules and promote participation. The very first exchange was eventually held between District 280 and the district in Nebraska when, in January 1959, John Rogers, a 15-year-old student from Scottsbluff, Nebraska, arrived in Myrtleford. At the same time, two Australian students, Nick Rutherford and Norm Jordon, left District 280 for Scottsbluff and Grand Lake, Colorado. It was these first three Rotary Youth Exchange students who started what has now become an opportunity of a lifetime for so many others. Today, between 8000 and 9000 exchanges are arranged each year affording students from around 80 countries of the Rotary world the opportunity of a lifetime. 03.01.2022 I think this says a lot about this amazing woman...

02.01.2022 urges all Rotarians to get behind The Sir Clem Renouf Polio Appeal. Part of being a Rotarian is aspiring to make the world a better place. One Rotarian who tru...ly delivered on this promise was Sir Clem Renouf, who passed away on 11 June. Clem hailed from Nambour, Qld, and was president of Rotary International in 1978-79. However, he will perhaps be longest remembered for the pivotal role he played in helping rid the world of polio. If you would like to honour the life of this amazing man, Noel, along with Rotary International Past Presidents Bill Boyd from New Zealand and Ian Riseley from Australia, as well as RI Director-elect Jessie Harman, urge you to consider supporting the cause Sir Clem was so passionate about End Polio Now. These four Rotary leaders have established The Sir Clem Renouf Polio Appeal to help Sir Clem’s dream become a reality.
