23.01.2022 What are you doing today?....Nothing?.... Good! @chickensalt_____ is performing in the city this upcoming Monday from 12pm - 1:30pm at Garema Place as part of the City Renewal Authority's new Lunchbox Acoustic program. Dont know how to get there? Meet at Belconnnen Youth Centre by 11.30am so we can catch a bus together into the city. Bus tickets are avaliable if needed. Chicken Salt is a 14 piece horn-led funk cover band. What started as an excuse to hang out with old high school friends has quickly developed into a seriously funky group of young musicians with incredible chops. Their repertoire consists of Stevie Wonder, Vulfpeck, Lawrence and more, as well as a couple of Christmas songs recently put together.

There is a short film competition and festival for young people (25 and under) in Canberra to make short films about climate change, the environment and sustainability, and it's being run in conjunction with Canberra Short Film Festival. They will be doing some cooking, eating and a 5 minute walk to Glebe park to try out some mediation on yoga mats! Prizes include $500 for 1st place, $250 for 2nd place and $100 for 3rd place, mentorship, performance and recording opportunities. All people aged 12 to 25 are invited to submit a video of up to 4 minutes in length to go into the running to compete in the final competition.... This year the competition is open to all young people in Canberra! Whether it be music, dance, drama, music or comedy, if your talent can be performed on stage for the enjoyment of a live audience, we want to see it! This group is open to any Young Person who would like to make friends and explore topics relevant to young women. Young people who identify as gender or sexually diverse are also encouraged to join. We will have weekly workshops around our identities, relationships, communication, health, confidence, citizenship etc. The young people who attend our program, will be the ones who decide what we foc...us on! 08.01.2022 The Messengers Program is an arts based early support program for young people who are experiencing signs of anxiety, depression and other mental health issues. The program also assists young people to explore personal and gender identity. At risk young people aged 12 25 years are offered an arts based approach that builds resilience, improves mental health and young people’s acceptance of their diversity. The program teaches young people creative skills across a range of artistic mediums, including visual arts, performing arts and digital and cross-art forms. Belconnen Youth Centre is joining Canberra Metro Operations, the ACT Government and key community groups to raise awareness around the issue of safety around light rail in Canberra. 03.01.2022 Pitch Your Passion is a free virtual cabaret event presented by Women With Disabilities ACT. The cabaret showcases young leaders with disability in the ACT region and challenges them to perform or speak about an issue that is important to them. All participants receive a scholarship to engage a mentor in their choice of leadership field to further develop their skills. We have all sorts of performers lined up from fire twirlers to singers, drag artists to slam poets! The event will be livestreamed at 6:30pm 8:30pm on Friday 17 July. The event is completely free to attend and will be live captioned.
