23.01.2022 ** FIRE SAFE KIDS** Getting ready for summer

22.01.2022 A busy night for the brigade last night. Twelve members started brushing up on their summer skills with some draughting practice at Birdsland Reserve. And then soon after midnight we were called to a single car motor vehicle accident on Belgrave-Hallam Road. The single occupant of the car was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Thanks to Monbulk Fire & Rescue (CFA), Belgrave Fire Brigade - CFA, FRV Station 86, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria for their assistance in removing the occupant and providing the necessary medical care.

18.01.2022 All CFA volunteers have to re-certify critical skills each year before the start of the summer fire season. COVID-19 has made this difficult however, with the approval of the Chief Health Officer, COVID training for all members and the creation of a COVID safe plan we are able to return to limited training with a maximum of 10 people.

15.01.2022 Found near the footy oval playground by a local resident. If it's yours, or if you know who it belongs to, it's been left on the seat near the playground.

14.01.2022 Today's Grassland curing map. Why is this important? It shows how dry, or "cured" the grassland is across the state. Over the next few weeks, with the warm/wet weather cycles, we are likely to see an increase in grass growth. With that comes an increased risk of grassfires.... With grassfires, the length of the grass has a direct impact on flame height. The recommendation is to keep all grass at 10cm or less. Take care when driving farm vehicles or machinery through grasslands and if you need to pull your car off to the side of the road at any point, avoid pulling over into long grass as the heat from your exhaust can start a fire. Create and maintain a defendable area around your assets by keeping your grass short and bushes and trees trimmed back from buildings. If you're concerned about long grass on roundabouts and road edges, contact the council or VicRoads. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/grassfires-rural

12.01.2022 Quick reminder about the council by-laws re burning off. Only burn for fuel reduction and biosecurity purposes Wind speed must be less than 19km/hr... You must supervise the burn at all times, have water available and ensure it is extinguished before you leave Smoke must not be offensive or create a traffic hazard The fuel must not be offensive or noxious You must have three metre clearance above and around the fire Please advise your neighbours before burning off You must not, without a permit, light a fire in a public place Permits will not be issued during the CFA Declared Fire Danger Period or on days of Total Fire Ban Permits are only issued in exceptional circumstances and contain strict conditions The burn must be registered with ESTA (Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority) At the moment winds are over 22kph at the Belgrave South Fire Station making it too windy for safe burning off. If you have a fire going, extinguish it immediately and wait until weather conditions are more favourable to a safe fire.

03.01.2022 Most people in the community rely on the internet to stay in contact with friends, family, workplaces and education. This has been particularly impo...rtant during the COVID-19 pandemic and has highlighted the fact that, for many areas in Yarra Ranges, internet services just aren’t good enough. We want to help change that. We’re putting together a map of internet and mobile coverage and want more detail about the quality of your internet to advocate to the State and Federal Government for better internet and telecommunications infrastructure (such as phone towers) and to assist Council in reducing isolation to communities in the threat of a natural disaster.
