25.01.2022 Graphic series to help create understanding of autistic communication styles. I invite those who are #actuallyautistic to add their own interpretations and poin...ts of view, all respectful discussion is welcome. Please keep in mind that these graphics are in regards to being misinterpreted. That doesn't mean autistics can't be mean, rude, obtuse, insincere etc. We are humans, and like all humans, there are a range of personalities. Remember that a neurotypical person can smile, preform chit chat etc and not be a nice person. The key here is that our default ways of communicating often don't fit within 'social norms' for what is acceptable, and often that can lead to an incorrect assessment of us and what we say. To accept us fully is to #LearnOurWay Disclaimer: I am not a professional or expert, I am interpreting behaviour based on my own lived experience and thus it won't be correct for all. For ease of graphics, I have simplified something that can be far more complex. If you want a higher quality pdf of this series to use for yourself or in a professional setting, downloads are available here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com//When-I-Talk-To-You-Au If you appreciate my mahi (work), I have a Ko-fi account here: https://ko-fi.com/morethanoneneurotype

16.01.2022 Hey families We have updated our policies on wearing a mask to harmonise with the NSW Government and Occupational Therapy Australia guidelines. We ask that all persons over the age of 12 wear a mask when in the waiting room, unless they have an exemption.... Patients of all ages are not required to wear a mask during their therapy sessions. It is their personal choice. Parents, support persons and siblings over 12 are required to wear a mask at all times in the clinic and therapy rooms, unless they have an exemption. Your child's therapist and therapy assistants will wear a mask when practical to reduce the risk of contracting and spreading illnesses. Swipe to see an easy read table clarifying this information (Who doesn't love a good table!?) Thank you all for your continued support and understanding! See more

02.01.2022 WALKING IN THE SAND Summer is finally here For many, that means trips to the beach! Ever wondered what barefoot walking in the sand can do for your little one? Here are just a few of the benefits: Walking on sand strengthens the muscles in the feet and legs and increases muscle endurance. The drier the sand, the more resistance work that is being done. Stronger muscles = more strength and endurance to engage in PLAY, LEARNING and LEISURE ... Proprioceptive input that can lead to improved balance, coordination, motor planning, motor reacting and grading force Tactile input! We have between 3000 - 7000 nerve endings in each foot. What a workout for the senses! These receptors help us to detect the nature of where we are so we can CONNECT and ADAPT to our surroundings Relaxation! Being outdoors in nature can help us feel grounded, connected and relaxed Endless opportunities to play, bond and explore! See more
