25.01.2022 A huge thanks to Mae, Bryan and Bella for your generous drop off this morning. We love the toys and your coffee generosity. Thanks for making our Friday.

25.01.2022 Happy Days at the office today. Happy Birthday to Jodie our wonderful OT. We hope you have a great day tomorrow. Thanks Carly for the yummy curd

25.01.2022 Legend line up! Thanks to the team for their bravery and generosity. The community thank you! Betty and Mel have theirs scheduled for coming weeks.

24.01.2022 Hi everyone! My name is Souha and I became a Speech Pathologist because we work on so many different areas - not just the speech! My favourite area is working with children on the Autism spectrum and supporting them to access a communication system that works for them. There is something really special in helping people find their voice whether it is through spoken language, pictures, sign or speech generating devices. I also enjoy supporting clients who stutter. There are va...rious programs established to support individuals with stuttering behaviours and it is great collaborating with the speech pathologists on the team to determine the best course of action for each client. Working with Jodie has been an absolute privilege! We have a number of jointclients and her willingness to share tips and tricks is always appreciated. The strategies she shares regarding regulation and motor skills have played an integral role in assisting our clients achieve their therapy goals. Jodie has advocated for the field of occupational therapy and has assisted the speech pathologists on the team to understandhow the two fields compliment each other. Thank you Jodie!

24.01.2022 Thanks to our students for these handy communication tips. We begin communicating from the moment we are born! An infant communicates through crying and smiling, and a toddler communicates through babbling and using gestures such as pointing. Developing early communication skills in children is crucial as it allows them to express themselves clearly and confidently. Here are some useful tips to support your childs communication. #spweek

23.01.2022 Congratulations to our blood donor team. As a lifelong blood donor I am proud to have grown our donor team. We have admin and SP & OT Involved and a team of supporters at the office who believe in this cause. Well done all and if you haven’t donated before - pop along to your local @redcrossau blood bank.

22.01.2022 Happy @daffodildayy

22.01.2022 International Friendship Day celebrates friendships between people of all races and beliefs. Through friendship, we can help create a better and more united world. Today, reach out to your friends and let them know that you appreciate them with a message, a phone call or a gift, or do something kind to make a new friend. Thanks Allison for organising and staff for celebrating IFD with the speech and OT family

22.01.2022 Have you heard of the term aphasia? Aphasia is an acquired language disorder commonly resulting from brain injury e.g. stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI). 1 in 240 Australians have aphasia and this affects their communication, social participation and quality of life. As speech pathologists, we assess, diagnose and manage aphasia and aim to improve spoken and written communication. Here are some common signs and symptoms of aphasia: Difficulty finding the right words a...nd using jargon Speak in simple phrases or even single words with effort Take extra time to process verbal and/or written information Struggle to write/copy the alphabet, words and sentences Not aware of the errors they make. Speech Pathologists are an active part of the multidisciplinary team who care for people with communication disorders. Happy #SPWeek and lets continue to help people in our community communicate with confidence. See more

21.01.2022 I am lucky to be part of a profession that helps people get to where they and their family wants to them to be. I am always humbled when they respond with a caring act of kindness. These will serve to remind me of the positive impact allied health professions have on members of our community. Thanks Mon and H You made my week extra special.

21.01.2022 Hi! I’m Krystelle (left). I started working at Belinda Hill & Associates in early March, before recommencing my position in Admin after my clinical placement in July. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and have finished my third year of study in 2020. As both a student studying OT & an administration staff member here in the clinic, I have learned the importance of valuing each client as individual, and working to provide the best possible outcomes for... their care. I have a strong passion for helping young children achieve their goals, and am excited to see where the future may take me working within this amazing profession! I am so fortunate to be working alongside Hannah both at university and here in the clinic. She has always been so supportive of me, and inspires me to continue working towards my goals. Hannah is truly a beautiful friend, peer & colleague.

17.01.2022 Hi, my name is Jodie. I have been working as an occupational therapist for 2 years now. During year 12 I was not sure what I wanted to do as a career. I chose occupational therapy as an option as it sounded like something that offered lots of variety. Throughout my degree and completing practical placements across a variety of settings I found an interest for helping people achieve their goals. I have really enjoyed working in paediatrics and seeing my clients grow. During my time here at the clinic I have been lucky to meet Souha. She is such a joy to work with. She is so passionate, and this is evident in the connection she has with her clients and how well she can motivate them. She is so knowledgeable about her field and always has time to offer support to those she works with. It has been such a pleasure to get to work with her.

16.01.2022 Look out - Jenny the fire warden is in charge!

16.01.2022 Today we were sad to farewell Liz. She has been an invaluable member of our team and she will be sorely missed. Lots of tears did the rounds today. We wish Liz all the best for her bright future. Thanks Liz for your beautiful flower and kind words. They were very thoughtful and beautiful.

15.01.2022 What a beautiful surprise! Thanks Chloe and Henry for the lovely flowers. It has been a different and creative placement with learning for us all. @utsgradschoolhealth @goshspeechuts @flowersforeveryoneaustralia

15.01.2022 Wishing Jen the most amazing birthday for tomorrow. Jenny is approaching 20 years of service at Belinda Hill & Associates. Thats an enormous milestone and we are so lucky to have had Jen on the team for nearly 2 decades. Jen is always happy and there to help anyone who needs support in work or life. Not to mention she is a brilliant cook, wife and mum. We hope you enjoy a beautiful dinner with the family and are glad you are part of ours.

15.01.2022 Today marks the start of OT Week! The OT Week theme for 2020 is resilience. Today's activity involved opening a chocolate wrapper with one hand. This shows the importance of persevering when things are difficult in order to achieve results. The team all put in a great effort, with Chloe as our winner for today! #occupationaltherapy

14.01.2022 From this Monday 15/6 we look forward to welcoming all clients back to the clinic for face to face services. We know that some clients have opted to maintain Telehealth for the meantime or a combination of FTF and TH for the future and that is also perfectly fine with us. We look forward to flexible service delivery for all our families.

14.01.2022 Yes- looks a bit different. But were not in standard times. If you see us with masks, its to protect you and us and mandated by NSW Health. We are working our best to minimise risk to you and us. If you have a mask please wear it into the clinic. Under 12s dont need to but we appreciate you working hard with us and the community so we can return sooner to the activities we know and love. Talk to your kids about coughing and masks- play with masks with their toys and explain why we use them. This will help to alleviate any anxiety they may cause. We will do our best to do the same too.

13.01.2022 Introducing our @sydney_uni speech pathology students Nirali and Stephanie who are working hard at their paediatric clinical placement for the coming weeks. Heres a few words from them (Thanks Allison and Carly for the clinical supervision) ......................... From the very beginning, our CEs (Carly & Allison) and the rest of the staff have been very supportive and welcoming. For the first week, we were given enough opportunities to observe the running of the sessions which helped us transition into conducting the sessions from week 2 onwards. We are not only given supervision from our CEs, but also being mentored by other staff. Were glad that we have our first external placement at Belinda Hills & Associates. We look forward to gaining valuable clinical experience!

12.01.2022 The clinic is open for new and existing clients for face to face services. We also that all visitors adhere to social distancing and hand sanitiser on entry. If any member of the family is unwell please continue to use Telehealth service options. We are happy to provide videoconferencing for clients into the future. Please discuss your preference with the admin team and the therapists.

12.01.2022 People who know me are aware that I encourage positive environmental actions. Here’s a share from Maddie #proudboss Maddie's Environmental Fact and Product of the week : Did you know plastic straws are a major environmental problem. In the US they use over 500 million a day! The plastic ends up in our waterways and landfill. They don't break down easily and either sit there for years or, if they get in our waterways, end up in our marine life. Purchasing metal or silicon straws can help the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans killing our marine life. Below are one of my personal favorites that the whole family can enjoy. They also come in single or twin packs. #beingkindtoourplanet

12.01.2022 Glad the sun is out and can start charging these panels. I am always looking for ways to reduce our environmental . Thanks to @solarpartnersaus Shane Hinchliffe for excellent customer service and smooth installation. In no time we will be totally self sufficient and generating our energy supplies from the . #renewablenergy

12.01.2022 A huge thank you to the team at @utsgradschoolhealth @goshspeechuts for this surprise delivery We are enjoying hosting students and sharing our clinical experiences. Personally it always brings me great joy to walk beside students as they head towards entry level competency and their future as part of our collective profession. We appreciate your generosity and kindness. Wonderful partnership.

11.01.2022 Today I am a very proud boss! We have a contingent of staff heading over to @redcrossau #bloodbank to donate as part of our clinic bloody donor team. They are champions in my eyes and the support team behind them are too. If you can, give

11.01.2022 Welcome to our newest team members Hannah and Taylah. Hannah has just completed her 3rd year of OT study and Taylah has finished her first year of speech pathology study. Our clinic is proud to support early career students as they progress to qualified professionals. Taylah and Hannah will be helping out the admin and therapy team while they complete their studies. Welcome and we hope you enjoy learning up close about your respective professions.

11.01.2022 Team training is a regular part of our staff schedule. Today we spent 2 hours with Meagan Rudd from SignOn to learn some more Key Word Signs. Sign assists with understanding of language and has proven research that it assists with expressive communication.

10.01.2022 We are experiencing some technical challenges with our phones today. If you cannot reach us please email [email protected] and we will call you via our mobile system.

10.01.2022 June 14th marks the start of National Blood Donor Week, which raises awareness of the global need for blood donations, celebrates the hard work of medical professionals who research new technology, and thanks donors for their contribution. What Can you do? 1. Give Blood 2. Spread the Word 3. Find an event near you @redcrossau

09.01.2022 Professional development is crucial to growing our knowledge. Our clinicians were fortunate enough to have a session with Ros Neilson (Speech Pathologist) today on the topic of spelling assessment and therapy. We were presented with theory but also had the opportunity for case example discussion. We were reminded that Writing and Spelling are not so simple. The other important take home message is that getting a word right doesnt tell you as much as getting a word wrong does. The error gives you information regarding what rules and processes the client is applying. Thanks team for your interest in literacy and thanks Ros for your practical session yet again!

09.01.2022 Please share far and wide Full Time Paediatric Occupational Therapist. Early Career/ Experienced Clinician https://www.seek.com.au/Job/50191634/?cid=ios-share

09.01.2022 Thanks Allison for coordinating #stressdownday and our OTs for the outdoor circuit. Research shows that 90% of Australians feel stressed - with 74% of people reporting being stressed from work. It is important to take some time out to relax your mind and body and give yourself a break. This Stress Down Day we are taking on the call from Lifeline to add 30 minutes of movement into our day, and stressing down with our slippers at work. What do you do to de-stress?

08.01.2022 Were looking for an OT to join our team. Please share with any wonderful individual you think would make a good addition to our allied health family. https://www.seek.com.au/job/50191634

07.01.2022 A huge thanks to Monique and Hope for there absolutely generous donation of toys to the clinic. We will happily recycle them and bring them to life again. More kids will gain joy from them and learn many concepts and skills. Kindness makes the week smile.

06.01.2022 Private practices are definitely a labour of love. Thanks Cleo for helping on the tools today to make sure our clinic is a beautiful place to visit. If you are a visitor please remember our grounds are non smoking. We ensure our premises are safe and healthy for all who attend. We have clients who have compromised health and cigarette smoke risks their well-being. Not to mention collecting cigarette butts is a dirty job. For those we don’t find, they get washed down into our waterways. Please remember the health and well-being of others and don’t smoke on our grounds. It will ensure a clean and pleasant visit for all. Thanks.

06.01.2022 @ruokday Check in on your mates or someone you think needs a friendly check in. Take someone for a coffee and give them the most valuable thing you can- your time and care.

05.01.2022 Hi, I’m Hannah and I am a new member of the reception team at Belinda Hill and Associates. I am loving working in the clinic as I am learning new skills everyday and enjoy working with my colleagues. I just finished my third year of studying to become and OT and I chose this career path as I believe it will be very rewarding and give me many opportunities to help others. The environment within the clinic is highly positive and provides me with regular opportunities to engage ...with OT’s and speech therapists who highlight the importance of being client centred and working together to best support each other and the clients. I look forward to graduating and working with clients of my own to reach their personal goals that bring meaning to their life. I am fortunate to study and work alongside Krystelle who is a great friend that is highly passionate and works extremely hard in all she does. Krystelle has a very friendly personality and will thrive when working as an OT due to her caring nature, strong motivation and work ethic.

05.01.2022 Nirali and Stephanie @sydney_uni speech pathology students are celebrating #SPWeek with us this week. Clinical placements allow the speech pathology students to gain practical knowledge and develop critical clinical skills required to be an efficient speech pathologist. Here at BH & A students receive supervision from our experienced speech pathologists as well as opportunities to observe or work with occupational therapists. Along with their individual sessions, our students are also managing the school readiness group at the clinic. Through this experience they will learn how to manage childrens behaviours, make sure every childs need is catered for as well as prioritise goals that are beneficial for all the children in the group. Students are provided with constructive feedback that will be crucial for their development.

05.01.2022 Make sure you support your local @redcrossau service and donate. They are safe and have measures in place to ensure social distancing. Their volunteers make and they have and and

04.01.2022 Today is @lifelineaustralia #stressdownday Can you guess whose slippers belong to who? Funny how much our footwear aligns with our personalities!! 03.01.2022 This National Stroke Week (Aug 31-Sept 6) Stroke Foundation is urging Australians from all walks of life to become the next generation of F.A.S.T. Heroes. A F.A.S.T. hero is anyone who can help save a life simply by knowing how to recognise the F.A.S.T. (Face. Arms. Speech and Time) signs of stroke. When a stroke happens, brain cells start dying at a frightening rate of up to 1.9 million per minute, but medical treatments can stop this damage. Its important to recognise the ...F.A.S.T. signs as the faster you can be treated after stroke, the more chance you have of making a full recovery. ....................... One of the effects of stroke is weakness on one side of the body, which can impact a range of daily activities. Today, the team took part in timed drawing challenges whilst only using their non-dominant hand, increasing our awareness of some of the changes that may take place after a stroke. See more

03.01.2022 Speech pathologists collaborate with many other professionals e.g. teachers, general practitioners (GP), occupational therapists (OT), and psychologists and adopt a holistic approach to treatment. This allows speech pathologists to identify client challenges in different settings and optimises their therapy outcomes. At BH & A the speech pathologists work closely with the OTs for social skills, play and behaviour management and understanding the impact of sensory difficult...ies. Our allied health teams collaborate in the following ways: Professional development meeting: In the meetings, cases and topics are shared and discussed, allowing the team to share their professional opinions with each other. That way, it facilitates exchange of information and skills and promotes the productivity of our sessions. Joint sessions: Joint sessions are conducted by OTs and speech pathologists. We plan and incorporate our goals in the joint session. By having joint sessions, it promotes functional communication and better supports our clients growth/recovery. Happy #spweek

02.01.2022 Allison representing the team while conducting a training session with preschool educators from Penrith Council centres. Its so important that we work with not only clients and their families, but staff who support the children every day. Sharing knowledge is one of our clinic core values.

01.01.2022 This week (23-29th August) is Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) week. SPA is the governing body for speech pathologists in Australia. SPA week is celebrated to promote and acknowledge the hard work done by speech pathologists in helping clients with their communication and swallowing difficulties. It is also celebrated to spread awareness about the various types of communication difficulties that are faced by millions of Australians everyday. According to SPA, in Australia 1.2 million people have a communication disability! Here are some of our SP team (in social distance mode!) Watch this space for tips and info all week about speech and communication across the lifespan.
