24.01.2022 So this little guy is 1 year old today. And it got me thinking about how much love dogs give to us...in that year he’s had countless cuddles with so many people (which I’ve captured just the edge of here), and I reckon it’s a year when we all need love more than anything else. I have lost count of strangers who’ve stopped me for a chat and a cuddle too. (With Sunny, not me to be clear!). Frankly, I’m amazed that I haven’t killed him some days. In the main though he’s chilled - exactly why I chose him from the litter, with just a hint (& a half) of mischief. He’s also taught me patience which is not my best virtue...piano piano! I’m slowly getting better. #sunnyboy #dogsofinstagram #toycavoodle

22.01.2022 When I heard Heather Swan speak at a Comm Bank Women in Focus session a few years ago, I spent the whole time squirming has she showed footage of her Wingsuit Pilot adventures (google her, it will blow you away). This quote though always stayed with me. Always a reminder like that our actions each day, inform our future in some way. #startwithyou #leadfromtheinside #leadership #quotes #personalleadership #recalibrate #reassess

22.01.2022 So much to thank this woman for. Repost from @nickkristof Ruth Bader Ginsberg has died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 87. She was a legendary figure: Law firms initially refused to hire her when she graduated from Harvard Law School because she was female, so she became an academic and reshaped the law on gender equality. She was for gender equality what Thurgood Marshall was for racial equality. ... And now she is gone. Mitch McConnell blocked Obama's nomination of a justice in 2016 on the basis that election year vacancies should await the new president, but McConnell has already said that this will not apply in 2020. I think of McConnell as the opposite of Ginsberg. She was a principled visionary devoted to helping achieve justice for the voiceless and disadvantaged; he is an unprincipled pragmatist devoted to helping the rich get richer. If "Ginsberg" has an antonym, it is "McConnell." RIP, Ruth Bader Ginsberg. #rbg #genderequality

22.01.2022 Feeling a little sad about today - as someone who’s first job out of uni was newspapers it’s the end of an era. I have so many great friendships and memories of my time at News.

21.01.2022 A theme for the week. If you’re a leader driving change you will always be surrounded by those trying to keep status quo. Be careful of expending your energy in the fight. Notice what takes up your energy each week. If you’re building the new, is your vision and purpose clear for those you need to influence? Relentlessly communicate, even if you feel like a broken record. Consistency is key, it provides certainty for those you lead. ... #startwithyou #recalibrate #leadership #influence #change #navigate2021 #uncertainty #personalleadership

20.01.2022 Lest We Forget. Back in 2012 I had the honour to travel with my parents to France and Belgium to see the grave of my Great Uncle who died in battle at Delville Wood in the Somme Valley, and was later moved to the Guards Cemetery at Les Bouefs. The sheer devastation of seeing everything that happened here, especially in cold dreary weather that they would have endured, was incredibly humbling and devastating. A reminder why on remembrance day we need to do all we can in our own daily lives to focus on our humanity and unity rather than division. #rememberanceday #lestweforget #somme #anzacs

20.01.2022 I’m loving @markmanson and his posts of late. If you don’t follow, I highly recommend you do...love his view on technology here... #Repost @markmanson with @get_repost Ultimately, to grow within reality you have to embrace reality. And that's a tall order because reality often sucks. And that's the rub: can you embrace the suckage? Can you stomach the icky, ugly truth? Engaging with reality is its own kind of skill. It means letting go of your hopes and assumptions and be...liefs and biases and focusing on simply observing what is. That's not fun or sexy. And it often doesn't feel good. But it's necessary. One of the concerns I raised in my book 'Everything is Fucked: A Book About Hope' is that technology is enabling us to avoid reality more than ever before. And while these new shiny forms of avoidance may feel good for a while, and while we may even delude ourselves into believing that we're entitled to avoid reality and believe whatever we want, you can only avoid reality for so long before you crash back into it, face first. How have you avoided reality in the past and what did you do to overcome it? See more

19.01.2022 What would we do in business without our amazing support teams? Mona has worked with me now for over a year and has been one of the shining lights through covid-19, losing a best friend and all the other crazy that has been the past few months. Happy birthday chick, what a photo to go down in the history books!! Face masks and birthday cake #gratitude #covidcake #leadership #betterinchaos

18.01.2022 Light has been my guiding word for 2020 for many reasons, including my focus in Start With You on the importance of the light within you being stronger than the need for the light upon you. Then this book keeps popping up everywhere - so grabbed it on the weekend. As much as I love a kindle, it’s so beautiful in its presentation that I’m inspired to join @emmarmcqueen and her mission to nail a book each week. I’ll report back - but so far I’m loving this read. #phosphorescence #juliabaird #author #startwithyou #leadfromtheinside

18.01.2022 I’m not going to lie. I may have been a little overexcited to see this @joel_feros number at @cha_chakate1 vinyl party. Epic, key change track Making love out of nothing at all left me fulfilled...until I got in my car to go and had a huge huntsman on my windscreen. I may have used 3litres of water blasting it - he was airborne...just not sure where he landed. I am going to pretend it was the road and not the side of my car.... #straya #vinyljunkie

16.01.2022 Random texts like this one always take me by surprise, and are my motivation to keep writing. Sometimes, when things feel out of your control, the one thing in your control is you. 15.01.2022 This week in my coaching it seems many of us are struggling with just how to articulate feelings and emotions right now. From neuroscience, we know there is a power in being able to label emotions, helping quell the threat response in our brain which is always seeking safety and certainty. But how do you do it? In Australia, I think there is still pride in coming from tough, no bullshit backgrounds...however, checking in with yourself is important in not suppressing emotion.... This is 15mins worth your time...and to give yourself permission to be where you are and to develop the habit of being in-tune with yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMER8OoDZ-o #startwithyou #navigatingchaos #leadership #leadershipcoach #leadershipskills #Author #emotions

13.01.2022 I struck the birth lottery with this woman. Happy birthday Mum...looking good one year off 70 and I’m continuing to pray I get the Barb gene and look this good when I’m older!!

13.01.2022 My beautiful Great Auntie Alice (on the right with my Nanna) passed away today at the amazing age of 101yrs. A reminder that our aged population have a lot of great years ahead of them, even beyond 70, 80 and 90! Aunty Alice was living independently, still gardening etc into her late 90’s. The last of my great generation of family on both sides, and the reminder with Covid-19 on our doorsteps that doing the right thing for this age group and the vulnerable especially, really matters. #eyeson100 #familylegacy

05.01.2022 Wow. This memory came up today from 5 years ago...so hard to believe so much has happened since then, and still mega grateful to the cheer squad there that night. 05.01.2022 Very excited to be talking with Stacey this week on LinkedIn live. 04.01.2022 If you haven’t watched the Netflix special The Social Dilemma, then I highly recommend you do. Whilst dramatic as expected in parts, the increasing divide of people even at the micro level in families has been widening. Our assumptions about people’s beliefs is also often made without exploring and understanding that person. Social media is also feeding us an echo chamber of what we want to hear, interrupting our ability to think critically about issues. Something I’m tryin...g to do more is to understand before judging. Listening to @oscartrimboli podcast last week with David Clutterbuck gave great insight into this and some great questions to ask. Curiosity builds connection - and I reckon Oscar’s Deep Listening podcast is one for everyone’s list as an action to take in disrupting this force. Am exploring this concept more as I write book two...and continue to work on influence and trust through uncertain times. #leadership #trust #authorsofinstagram #author #conversationalintelligence #curiosity #recalibrate #startwithyou #deeplistening

02.01.2022 Thank you @teaching_csse for the shout out! I’m currently finalising the online program to go with my book, so stay tuned. While it's not aimed specifically at academic audiences, I do like structured frameworks and stages and this provides something to measure against. * Now with 300+ students in my unit and some uncertainty around childcare

01.01.2022 Thought I would do some healthy baking on my last technical day off after some time away at the beach...ignore the *pit of despair* in the centre, there were some technical issues.
