24.01.2022 Had a chat with my lovely friend from Organic Gold Coast Farmers Market Organic Gold Coast Farmers Market
24.01.2022 What's your favourite type of berry? . Strawberries contain lots of vitamin C and other vitamins and minerals but they also contain bioactive compounds like flavonoids, anthocyanins and phenolic acids and these compounds have a synergistic and cumulative effect on our health. . Just the strawberry phenolics alone are able to:... . Detoxify free radicals. Modulate the expression of genes involved in metabolism, cell survival and proliferation and antioxidant defense. Protect and repair DNA damage. . Your cells replace themselves every few days to a few years depending on which cells they are, so every time you eat something you get to make a choice about how healthy those new cells are going to be and how well they'll function. . I love the idea that if you started to make better choices today, in few months you would've replaced many of your cells with fresh, new healthy cells! See more

23.01.2022 I did a big clean out of the kids toys last weekend so I'm just waiting to be asked for all the stuff that they barely ever used anyway and suddenly can't live without!
22.01.2022 5 simple ingredients and a couple of minutes to make and you've got a Spring Onion and Ginger Dressing that you can keep in the fridge and use through the week. . Great with steak or chicken or in an omelette to add lots of flavour. It's also great as a topping for a nourish bowl. . Just one of the recipes in my recipe ebook and I've also included some tips and lots of ideas for ways to use all of the recipes.... . 21.01.2022 This is the extent of my meal prep a lot of the time. Washing the fruit and veg after the markets on Sunday and laying it all out on a towel on the table to dry before I pack it away in the afternoon. . Sometimes I'll prep more for the week but I can also throw together a quick salad and chicken or roast a heap of veg during the week in no time at all. The kids just snack on fruit and carrots and stuff like that so I dont prep any of that. (My 6 year old also gets his food co...oked for him at school this year and hubby takes leftovers for lunch so I don't have to do that). . What will always prevent me from eating as well as I like to for the week is if I don't have fresh food ready to go in the fridge. Plus I'm obsessed with not wasting food so if it's there, we'll definitely be eating it! . We missed the market last week because we were driving back from Sydney and I spent so much more money during the week on eating out than I normally would! . Planning and meal prepping might be more your thing but find what works for you and step one is making sure the fresh food is always there so you don't resort to takeaway type options at the last minute. 17.01.2022 So many beautiful little spots everywhere in this city!
17.01.2022 The one thing that stops the kids fighting, whinging and bickering is to get them outside. . Not where there's shops, cafes and toys, but just out in nature. Beach, bush, sand, rocks, it works every time . #naturesmedicine
17.01.2022 Vitamin C is pretty well known for being good for your immune system but it also helps with lots of other things like iron absorption, particularly with plant based sources of iron, it's a powerful antioxidant and helps promote collagen synthesis so it's great for the skin and healing of wounds. . It's been used intravenously at high doses in the treatment of infections and cancers and it's a very effective at lowering inflammation so can be used in the treatment of injuries ...and other inflammatory conditions. Some cancers have been shown not to grow at all in vitamin C solution and the treatment of cancer patients with high dose Vitamin C leads to a 15% increased survival rate. . Oranges are probably your most famous vitmain C source but there's lots of other common foods that contain more or at least as much vitamin C. . Kiwi fruit, strawberries, papaya, capsicum and broccolli are really good sources and Kakadu plum contains more vitamin C than any other fruit in the world. See more
16.01.2022 What's the best type of diet? . Every single person has a completely individual health history, genetics, exposure to stress and trauma, toxic load, metabolism, etc etc, so there's really no one way of eating that's the best way. . Some people thrive on a completely plant based diet but some people really don't do that well.... . Some people do well with intermittent fasting and some don't. . Some really have to watch their intake of grains and some can tolerate a lot more and do well. . Some people can tolerate histamine, oxalates and FODMAPS, and some people have a lot of issues even though these can be contained in otherwise healthy foods. . EVERYONE should eat lots of fresh veggies and drink plenty of water but a lot of the other details will differ depending on your requirements. . Work with a professional that understands this and how to help you based on what YOU need, and that a one size fits all approach isn't appropriate for most people. . Send me a DM if you'd like to book a completely free 15 minute phone call to talk about how I may be able to help you. See more
15.01.2022 Leftover roast lamb heated up in the pan with a handful of spinach, sourdough, buffalo haloumi, avocado, coriander, red onion. . 15.01.2022 Snack, dessert, breakfast, take your pick . This is the easiest chia jam ever! No added sugar and you can literally make it in about 60 seconds, it only has 3 ingredients! . Have it on some sourdough, with yoghurt, ice cream, as a smoothie bowl topping, on some overnight oats or porridge.... . So delicious and so good for you! . Leave a below if you want this recipe and loads more and I'll send you a link to the ebook! . @lxocreativestudio See more
14.01.2022 How often do you have dessert? . Is it a daily thing or once every now and then? . As always it depends on the person and when you're making adjustments, you want to be able to sustain them long term.... . I personally have something maybe once a week or so and that works for me. . But if you're going from eating ice cream or chocolate every night though, having something only once a week might be too big of a change to start with and you'll be back to your old habits after a couple of days. . Why not try swapping to a better option like your favourite fruit with organic cream, or a couple of homemade dark chocolate strawberries instead? Still delicious but a much better option than half a tub of ice cream or a block of chocolate. . Maybe even going from every day to 4 days a week is a good start for you initially. . This combo is pretty epic #grilledpineapple #toastedmacadamias #coconuticecream #freshmint See more
13.01.2022 Fruit salad, yoghurt and chia seeds. . That's the kids current favourite brekky at the moment and they usually ask for a couple of boiled eggs each after that too. . What's the usual breakfast at your place and does it vary or is it basically the same each day?
12.01.2022 Variety is pretty important in getting the most benefit from your diet. . Different fruits and veg contain different nutrients so the more variety in type and colour you consume, the greater the variety of nutrients. . Your gut bacteria also love the diversity and will really thrive when you consume around 30 different types of plant foods each week. The benefits will even increase further by consuming up to 40 different types each week!... . It sounds like a lot but it might not be as hard to do as you think, and as always, just start by being aware of your current habits and add an extra couple of plant foods each week and build it up over time. . This is a pretty standard weekly market trolley and (I don't normally count them) this had 28 different fruits and veg. . On top of that we'd have some nuts and seeds and things like roasted seaweed, dried fruit, herbs from the garden and other things throughout the week to so generally we'd pretty easily get to around 30 different types of plant foods each week. . The benefits of consuming this variety of plant foods is relevant whether you also eat animal products or not, your body still loves that wide variety of plants to really perform at it's best See more

09.01.2022 This is some amazing feedback from someone that booked in free 15 minute consultation! . I've decided to leave these consultations free permanently! . If you any kind of acute condition like an infection, injury, diarrhoea, constipation, mastitis, headaches, a baby with colic or any kind of infection, this appointment is perfect for those things and we can have a quick chat about what you can do to help get some relief.... . If you have symptoms or a condition that's a little more complicated but you aren't sure whether you should book in for a full appointment or how a naturopath could help, then this 15 minute appointment is great to have a chat about how I may be able to help and also if we're a good match to work together on getting you feeling good again. . If I don't feel like I'm the best person to help you, I'm more than happy to refer you to someone who I know is an expert in that area. . So if you're sitting on the fence or have an acute problem you'd like to sort out, what have you got to lose?! . 08.01.2022 'It lies in ourselves. We all produce cancer cells every day of our lives, thousands of them. They are identified as cancer cells and foreign by our own immune system and it goes to work to destroy them. So thats why we dont get cancer. . Those people who do get cancer have a failed mechanism: they either have a genetically failed mechanism or their immune system is depressed for some reason and cancer takes over. . So all the treatments that we throw at our patients today ... chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery they all depress the immune system and I think were probably doing the wrong thing. . We should be identifying the flaw in our immune system thats created the cancer in the first place and then targeting that by boosting our immune system and helping it fight itself.' @charlieteofoundation . I heard this in an interview with neurosurgeon Charlie Teo years ago and it really stuck with me. . We have so much more power over our health than we're lead to believe. . Broccoli sprouts are one of the cruciferous vegetables that contain sulphorophane which improves phase II liver function and detoxification, and also has powerful anti-cancer properties by inhibiting blood vessel growth, inducing cell death and preventing the proliferation and spread of affected cells. . @kara_thewholemomma See more
06.01.2022 This recipe I usually make as a raw slice and pour melted chocolate over the top but it's just as good and even easier to make rolled into bliss balls. . 06.01.2022 It's not that time consuming or expensive to eat delicious, healthy food. This is maybe $6 per serve and 5 minutes to make. . So easy, all organic produce with wild caught prawns and bloody delicious! . @johnwestaustralianz prawns with @mingleseasoning Mexican seasoning... Guacamole with tomato, red onion, coriander and cucumber and some chopped baby spinach. . Perfect weekday lunch or dinner and add some rice if you want and even some black beans. . Save this one to make this week See more
06.01.2022 Your body has requirements for macro and micronutrients and everything else that it requires to function properly. . Even if you're meeting your daily requirement for energy or calories, it'll still be hungry for nutrients if needs aren't being met. Calories in, DOES NOT equal calories out. . As much as I used to drill this into my clients when I was a Personal Trainer and didn't know any better. It a just not true.... . Calories from different sources can behave very differently in the body and alter the function of everything from metabolism, the absorption of nutrients and gut health, hormone function, appetite and storage of toxins amongst many other things and ultimately affect weight gain or loss even in diets with the same amount of calories but from different sources. . The quality of your food matters, a lot. . One of the main things I focus on with my clients is adding in lots more of what your body requires to function properly and crowding out some of the things you might be eating too much of that aren't serving you. . @olympuscheese buffalo haloumi @viridityorganic avocado @gcorganicmarket eggs and tomato Brocolli stalk pesto (recipe from my Well Dressed ebook, link in bio to get your copy) . Honestly the best Haloumi, avo and veg you'll get anywhere in Brissy, all from @northeystorganicmarket See more
06.01.2022 My 6 year old had a big chat with me yesterday about how 'relaxing' it is to poo after you've been holding it for a while . Not to far off the chats I have with some of my clients actually after getting their chronic gut issues sorted!
05.01.2022 I had 3 recipes from my 'Well Dressed' ebook already made up in the fridge that took about 2 minutes each to make on the weekend. . So all I had to do for tonight's dinner was chop a few tomatoes, boil pasta and cook a steak and that's it. . Poured my basic salad dressing on the salad, stirred my sundried tomato and olive pesto through the pasta with a couple of TB cream and leftover cooked prawns, and poured some green onion and ginger dressing on the steak.... . So much flavour and so delicious but also so easy to throw together during the week. . This is exactly why I put together this ebook! You won't consistently keep eating well if it doesn't taste good or it's too hard to do! . All of these recipes make the most basic, fresh food taste amazing and are full of nourishing wholefood ingredients and so quick and easy to make. . Get your copy via the link in my bio! See more
05.01.2022 Tag a friend who loves a dance after a champagne or 2! . . . @pinkpompomsocial
05.01.2022 When you expose mushrooms to the sun you can increase their levels of vitamin D becaise they synthsise vitamin D like we do when we expose our skin to the sun. . I read about an experiment that was done where they compared the vitamin D levels of three sets of organically grown shiitake mushrooms, all from the same crop, all with started vitamin D levels of 100 IU/100 grams. . The first was grown and dried indoors. The second set was dried outdoors in the sunlight with their ...gills facing down. The third set of mushrooms was dried outdoors in the sunlight with their gills facing upwards for full sun exposure.. . The most vitamin D was found in shiitake dried with gills up that were exposed to sunlight for two days, six hours per day. The vitamin D levels in these mushrooms imcreased from 100 IU/100 grams to nearly 46,000 IU/100 grams! . You can increase the vitamin D levels in mushrooms by putting them in the sun for an hour before you eat them and vitamin D levels decrease over time so the fresher the better. . That's one of the reasons I love shopping at markets. You can ask these questions! Where was it grown, when was it picked, plus there's just so much more flavour in food that hasn't been stored for weeks and weeks before you get it See more
04.01.2022 More awesome feedback from one of my completely FREE 15 minute consults! . This beautiful lady was getting really dry, flakey skin around her hairline and eyelids particularly, that was getting worse and she wasn't feeling good about the way it looked. . I recommended a couple of small changes after our chat and she's doing so much better! ... . You can use these phone calls to start treating smaller problems or if you have some more complex, long term issues that you'd like to work on, you can even book a 15 minute call to talk about how I may be able to help you going forward if you aren't sure whether to book in for a full initial appointment. . 01.01.2022 Which would you choose?? . Bacon and egg brekky plate or bacon and egg roll? . Exactly the same ingredients and serving sizes, the only difference is the bread.... . For a lot of people this can be the difference between getting the results they want or not. . Whether it's one of many reactions you might have to gluten like bloating, constipation, headaches, eczema, brain fog, or you're trying to lose weight. . You don't have to eat bland diet foods or count and measure everything you eat, and following a gluten free diet shouldn't mean replacing your current wheat based products with a heap of highly processed foods with a 'gluten free' label on the packet. . If you're in Brisbane, I'm running a Gut Health and Gluten Free Workshop at @tmporganics in Everton Park on the 26th August. It's only $20 which includes a 2 hour workshop, $20 in store credit and snacks! . Send a DM to @tmporganics to get your ticket. Spots are limited @ TMP Organics See more
