22.01.2022 I love walking around Ballarat. A few recent early evening snaps on on of my walks

19.01.2022 I can’t help it. I really like this sign Found it via online thread #CityOfSmiles According to a recent national study live locally in walkable neighbourhoods.... https://healthyactivebydesign.com.au//what-australia-wants Most Australians want to live locally in walkable neighbourhoods, within easy access to fresh, healthy food, and other everyday destinations. What ideas do you have for a ‘City of Smiles’?

19.01.2022 So exciting to see this installation of Campsite by Marley Smith and Billy Blackall at the Federation University Arts Academy Building in Alfred Deakin Place!!! Campsite (2020) is a re-commissioned artwork based on the original Campsite Mural first installed in Alfred Deakin Place for the Commonwealth Games in 2006. Campsite is a significant artwork and a tool for learning about local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Big congrats to Marley and Billy on t...he return of Campsite to the centre of Ballaarat. Thanks Ballarat Koorie Engagement Action Group - KEAG and Federation University for support of this project. 18.01.2022 What an exciting past 24 hours! Formally lodged my nomination to stand for re-election in Central Ward Ballarat today! Lodged all my paperwork and it took exactly 105 minutes. Lucky I’m a patient woman.... Speaking of patient.. We also had the final Ordinary meeting of this 4 year term of Council last night which finished at 11.11pm The role of a Councillor includes lots of fun and rewarding stuff, speeches at events and attendance at community meetings and activities. But the reality is that a lot more of it is about long hours, endless meetings and reading, countless difficult conversations and tough decision making, often in a highly combative environment. It’s a unique privilege and opportunity to be elected to act in the best interests of the community and govern. It’s an enormous responsibility to connect and listen to a diverse cross section of the community, diverse and competing interests to inform decisions for the common good. It’s also an onerous responsibility to oversee large budgets and policies within a huge and complex organisation delivering around 80 services. Good luck to everyone putting up their hand. It’s often a tough and thankless role but we need people of high integrity, calibre, and ethics. We need people with genuine community interest to put the interest of the common good first.

17.01.2022 I’ve definitely made progress and had big wins getting climate action on the council agenda .. But there’s still more work to do Greens Councillors across the country have consistently been the strongest leaders on climate action!... Ballarat Greens candidates Ellen Burns Jackson Snep and I have committed to pushing for: Zero net emissions city-wide target for 2030 Improved recycling and promote a closed-loop waste system Introduce incentives to help people switch to renewables/solar, with no upfront cost lending program Upgrade our green bins to FOGO bins, meaning you can throw your kitchen scraps and food waste in there! Continue to increase Ballarat's canopy coverage from 17% to 40% Advocate for a per capita spend on active transport Hold developers to the highest standard of sustainable design, meaning cheaper bills and more comfortable houses Continue advocating for improved public transport Encourage the creation of green jobs, growing our local economy and making us a regional leader These things are completely doable and many councils have implemented a lot of these already. Also check out BREAZE - Ballarat Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions candidate forum on Wednesday 7.30pm https://www.thecourier.com.au//should-new-councillors-pu/

16.01.2022 Zero new cases found in Regional Victoria! A breath of relief and hopefully a step forward. Remember now is not the time to get complacent.... Keep wearing your mask, keep washing your hands, keep your distance from others, it's by doing the right thing that we've got this far https://www.thecourier.com.au//no-new-covid-19-cases-foun/

15.01.2022 Official swearing in was held last night during a livestreamed online ceremony! No public or family members there last night due to COVID-19 restrictions, so here’s an old pic. Thanks Stu for your constant support! Also thanks to all family, friends and community members for your ongoing support. ... I’m extremely grateful for the community confidence that saw me re-elected for a third term. I’ll continue to work towards a fairer, more inclusive city, strive to raise the bar on local climate action, uphold the highest standards of good governance and continue to act in the best interests of the community. Congratulations to all new Councillors and re-elected Councillors. Newly elected mayor Daniel Moloney and deputy mayor Amy Johnson. Councillor photo below via Ballarat Times

14.01.2022 Love the theme of #NAIDOCWeek2020 #NAIDOC2020 #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe Happy NAIDOC week! A week borne from a day of protest, #NAIDOCWeek each year reminds us of the ongoing need for movement towards justice and equality.... Importantly, #NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians to come together to celebrate not only Indigenous achievement but the history, rich culture, and survival of the oldest continuing living culture on the planet. Always Was, Always Will Be. recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. We must always acknowledge the true history of this country. 13.01.2022 Get ready for outdoor dining and 10 person indoor dining This is good news and hopefully a good start towards reactivating local trade. We need more great ideas, innovation and incentives to support recovery! And we need to get out there and support our local cafes, restaurants and traders.... Tag a friend or local business: The City of Ballarat will waive outdoor dining permit fees to allow Ballarat businesses to offer immediate outdoor dining options as a first step to economic recovery for the hospitality industry. Easing of restrictions under the Victorian Government’s roadmap to reopen regional Victoria will allow Ballarat businesses to apply for funds to purchase outdoor dining equipment to serve patrons outside, with customer limits and social distancing requirements. To fast track the recovery plan, the City of Ballarat will waive its three-year outdoor dining permit fee until the end of January 2022. Those businesses who have already paid their fees will be given a refund. The City of Ballarat will monitor if their outdoor dining approvals need to be extended or altered. This is in addition to waivers and deferrals of fees and charges, including liquor licensing fees, offered by the Victorian Government as part of the recovery plan to get businesses operating again. In order to ensure hospitality businesses can have their new or varied outdoor footpath dining organised as easily and quickly as possibly, the City of Ballarat will provide the required public liability cover for this activity on a temporary basis. Hospitality businesses interested in discussing options should contact the City of Ballarat’s Business Help Desk by emailing [email protected] or phoning 5320 5500. https://www.ballarat.vic.gov.au//city-ballarat-prepares-re

13.01.2022 snowing again in Ballarat!!! #standstillworldbreathing

13.01.2022 I’m proud to be a strong advocate and ally for the LGBTIQA+ community And I’m really pleased to sign the Rainbow Pledge because I’m committed to continuing to advocate strongly if I’m re-elected. I’m proud that one of my first achievements after being elected was to gain support for Ballarat Council to join the No to Homophobia campaign in 2014... I also supported the first official rainbow flag raising in Ballarat for IDAHOBIT Day in 2016 I first gained support for Ballarat Council to support Marriage Equality in 2014 and successfully advocated for us to reconfirm support in 2017. Hopefully this constant advocacy played a role in Ballarat seeing one of the highest regional votes in the country in support of marriage equality- 70.5% ! I recognise that there’s still much more work to do and therefore pledge my full support and ongoing commitment to foster a culture in local government that is inclusive, responsive and accessible to LGBTIQA+ community members https://rainbowvotes.com.au/ #RainbowLocalGovernment https://www.australianmarriageequality.org//media-release/

07.01.2022 Love trees? They have so many benefits! Did you catch this great article ?recently about Ballarat’s aim to more than double tree canopy coverage to 40 per cent by 2040, and commitment to spend $500,000 annually until 2030 as part of its Urban Forest Action Plan. Ballarat was recently identified as one of eight local government areas in Australia most vulnerable to the dangers associated with urban heat islands.... One of my quotes "Trees just provide so many health and wellbeing benefits as well as environmental benefits, so it's not just the cooling in summer, it's everything else they do to help people feel good about the place they live." #urbanforest #ballarat #climateactionnow https://amp-abc-net-au.cdn.ampproject.org//article/12731738
