25.01.2022 An interesting look at the demographics of Facebook. Are you actively advertising on Facebook? Who is your target market?

25.01.2022 MOQ. We often hear that term, especially in the manufacturing industry, so what exactly does it mean and why is it so important? . MOQ is an acronym which stands for the minimum order quantity and refers to the least amount of products or units that a supplier is willing to produce at one time. . Suppliers set Minimum Order Quantities because it costs them a certain about of money to produce a production run, and the MOQ they set ensures that theyre able to cover al...l the costs of production plus make a profit. . Also, the MOQ set may actually be the fewest amount of units a supplier can produce in one single production run. Since manufacturers produce items in bulk, they purchase their materials in bulk as well. It may not be time or cost effective for them to set up their materials and run their machinery unless theyre guaranteed to be compensated for a certain amount of units their production run produces. Because of this, they set their MOQ to match what its worth for them to set up a production run both time and cost wise. . . . . . . . . . #fashionbusiness #fashiondesigner #fashionstartup #startupfashion #fashiondesign #emergingdesigner #independentdesigner #entrepreneur #business #emergingdesigners #fashionentrepreneur #businessadvice #mensfashion #menswear #streetstyle #fashionbrand #sustainablefashion #menstyle #streetfashion #fashionoftheday #independentdesigners #styleformen #startup #ethicalfashion #ecofashion #factory #madeinchina #ethicallymade #textiledesign #textileindustry See more

22.01.2022 The largest and oldest leather tannery in Morocco is the Chouara Tannery, which is almost a thousand years old. Fezs tanneries are composed of numerous stone vessels filled with a vast range of dyes and various liquids spread out like a tray of watercolors - an Instagrammers candy store! . The process has barely changed since medieval times: hides are first soaked in a mixture of cow urine, quicklime, water, and salt. This caustic mixture helps to break down the tough leat...her, loosen excess fat, flesh, and hair that remain on them. The hides are then soaked in another set of vats containing a mixture of water and pigeon poop. Pigeon poop contains ammonia that acts as softening agents that allows the hides to become malleable so they can absorb the dye. The tanner uses his bare feet to knead the hides for up to three hours to achieve the desired softness. . The hides are then placed in dying pits containing natural vegetable dyes, such as poppy flower (red), indigo (blue), henna (orange), cedarwood (brown), mint (green), and saffron (yellow). Other materials used for dyeing include pomegranate powder, which is rubbed on the hides to turn them yellow, and olive oil, which will make them shiny. See more

20.01.2022 Today we celebrate National Worship of Tools Day (in the USA). So lets take a look at the humble sewing machine. . There is so much history in garment making before the clothing workhorse we now know as the sewing machine. Every textile factory around the world has several hundred, if not thousands of these great inventions that are responsible for producing the majority of our woven clothing articles. . Sewing has an ancient history estimated to begin during the... Paleolithic Era. Sewing was used to stitch together animal hides for clothing and for shelter. Up until the industrial Revolution each household was responsible for the making and maintaining of each garment. The shift of production of textiles from the household to the mills In the early decades of the Industrial Revolution gave the factories the machinery to produce whole cloth, paving the way for fabric to be far more assessable to the masses. The worlds first sewing machine was patented in 1790 by Thomas Saint. . Sewing underwent further developments during the 20th century. As sewing machines became more affordable to the working class, demand for sewing patterns grew. Women had become accustomed to seeing the latest fashions in periodicals during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, increasing demand for sewing patterns yet more. Butterick being one of the first. . Textile industries in Western countries have declined sharply as textile companies compete for cheaper labour in other parts of the world. Textile workers in developing countries who perform tasks with sewing machines, are still a vital component of the industry, where many people, both male and female, are self-employed sewers. . . . . . . . . . #fashionbusiness #fashiondesigner #fashionstartup #startupfashion #fashiondesign #emergingdesigner #independentdesigner #entrepreneur #business #emergingdesigners #fashionentrepreneur #businessadvice #mensfashion #menswear #streetstyle #fashionbrand #sustainablefashion #menstyle #streetfashion #fashionoftheday #independentdesigners #styleformen #startup #ethicalfashion #ecofashion #factory #madeinchina #ethicallymade #textiledesign #textile See more

19.01.2022 Bamboo Fabric (Bamboo Viscose) . Almost all bamboo fabric items claim to be green or eco-friendly. Yet, many bamboo products arent as eco-friendly as they seem to be. The difference between those that are genuinely environmentally friendly and those that arent? In the way that the fabric is produced. . To create a fabric from what is essentially a wood, the Bamboo (or wooden) fibers are made into a viscose or a rayon. Generally, the bamboo is broken up and dissolved in... a solution. Once the bamboo has dissolved, this solution is pressed into fibers and then cooled. Finally, these fibers are spun into threads and woven into fabric. . Traditionally bamboo viscose (or rayon) has been treated with the following chemicals: . Carbon disulfide Sodium hydroxide Sulfuric acid . All of these chemicals are extremely corrosive and detrimental to the environment. Since this a well-known fact, many traditional companies try to prevent these substances from escaping their production plants. Despite these efforts, a significant amount of these chemicals leach into the environment and pollute the earth. . Choose an environmentally friendly manufacturing process that prepares the bamboo in such a way that does not need the harsh chemicals and uses sodium as the solution, which is a way more eco-friendly alternative.

19.01.2022 Today is #DenimDay . This humble yet legendary fabric has quite a history! The average American owns 7 pairs of jeans. Lets take a look at this fascinating material . Denim is a type of cotton twill textile, in which the weft passes under two or more warp threads. Warp threads of denim fabric are dyed in indigo while weft threads remain plain white. That is why denim is blue on the one side and white on the other. When used for jeans, denim is turned blue on the outside a...nd because of the way it is made it fades in a characteristic way. . Young people started wearing denim in the 1950s a mean of rebellion. This fashion was also inspired by Hollywood with by Marlon Brando with his 1953 film The Wild One as well James Deans movie Rebel Without a Cause from 1955. Some public places like schools and theaters banned jeans because of what they symbolized. Denim crossed from counterculture to fashion in the 1960s and 1970s when manufacturers started to make different styles of jeans. . Original denim was dyed with dye from plant Indigofera tinctoria. Modern denim is dyed with synthetic indigo. Denim is often dyed with indigo and dried many times over to get a stronger color that will not fade quickly. After the denim is made into clothing it as most often washed to make it softer and to reduce or eliminate shrinkage. Denim that is not washed is called dry or raw denim. Denim fades in time and gets a worn out look which is often desired as a fashion detail. See more

03.01.2022 No one knows exactly how old cotton is. Scientists in Mexico found bits of cotton bolls and pieces of cotton cloth that proved to be at least 7,000 years old. . Cotton is one of the most popular fabrics in the world. It is easy to care for, versatile, soft to touch and breathable ~ perfect for basics and intimates. . But cotton is an extremely water-intensive crop. It can take up to 10,000 qt of water to produce just 1 lb of cotton. The effect of diverting water fo...r irrigation can have disasterous effects on the surrounding land. . There is also a huge difference between organic and non-organic agriculture, especially when it comes to cotton. Cotton accounts for less than 3% of the worlds crop land, however it accounts for 24% of world insecticide use, and 11% of pesticides. When you think about all of the water run-off that is produced by this thirsty crop, you can imagine that cotton is a huge source of chemical pollution harming local ecosystems, wildlife and waterways. . For now, we have to be smart about where we buy our cotton. Not only should we look for credible certifications (think: GOTS ) to ensure organic production, and companies that care about reducing the negative impact of cotton agriculture. This includes precautions to ensure effective use of water such as growing in a water rich region, or implementing water-saving irrigation techniques. . . . . . . . . . . . #fashionbusiness #fashiondesigner #fashionstartup #startupfashion #fashiondesign #emergingdesigner #independentdesigner #entrepreneur #business #emergingdesigners #fashionentrepreneur #businessadvice #mensfashion #menswear #streetstyle #fashionbrand #sustainablefashion #menstyle #streetfashion #fashionoftheday #independentdesigners #styleformen #startup #ethicalfashion #ecofashion #factory #madeinchina #ethicallymade #textiledesign #textileindustry See more

Genuine silk remains by far the most popular kimono fabric and most kimonos are made by hand. Department stores that farm out their orders to these seamstresses usually request two weeks for delivery. . Alterations are never necessary because one size fits all. 02.01.2022 In clothing, clothing size refers to the label sizes used for garments sold off-the-shelf. There are many standard sizing systems around the world and three approaches for size-labeling of clothes: . 1. Body dimensions: The label states the range of body measurements for which the product was designed. (e.g. bike helmet label stating "head girth: 5660 cm".) . 2. Product dimensions: The label states characteristic dimensions of the product. (e.g. jeans label stating inner... leg length of the jeans in centimeters or inches (not inner leg measurement of the intended wearer).) . 3 Ad hoc sizes: The label states a size number or code with no obvious relationship to any measurement. (For example Size 12, XL.) . Traditionally, clothes have been labeled using many different ad hoc size systems, which has resulted in varying sizing methods between different manufacturers and countries due to changing demographics and increasing rates of obesity, a phenomenon known as vanity sizing. . This results in country-specific and vendor-specific labels incurring additional costs and can make internet or mail order difficult. See more

02.01.2022 A monument for the Starting Point of Silk Road, Xi`an, China. Today it is so easy to buy any fabric we want from either a local vendor or online. Years ago the fabric was transported over 4000 miles on what was known as the Silk Road running from China to Eastern Europe. . It was called the Silk Road because one of the major products traded was silk cloth from China. Other products included teas, salt, sugar, porcelain, and spices, all considered expensive luxury goods! Th...e Silk Road was significantly expanded and promoted from 206 BC onwards. Later the Mongols controlled a significant portion of the trade route, enabling Chinese merchants to travel safely. The Silk Road actually refers to numerous routes, some extremely dangerous - so large groups would travel together, including armed guards . Not all that was traded along the Silk Road were commodities. The bubonic plague, or Black Death, traveled to Europe from the Silk Road killing an estimated 25 million people. See more
