22.01.2022 Pretty proud to also be involved in the delivery of the Cinesnaps Schools Program as a member of the CinefestOZ team. The festival team work SO HARD to not only create an amazing film event, but to also deliver meaningful learning experiences to kids in the South West. As an ex English, Drama & Media teacher I know the importance of learning being authentic, engaging & meaningful, and meeting with filmmakers and hands on learning activities delivered by industry peeps definitely ticks those boxes! Check out this awesome video that shows what we do! https://www.instagram.com/tv/CLdoix1jDvU/

21.01.2022 A great evening spent enjoying new Australian short films, and then hosting a Q&A with writers, directors and producers Drew Kendall and Peter Cheng for CinefestOZ A huge thanks to those who came along, because the events and film industries (and they ARE industries that support many workers, trades & skills, and contribute much to our economy) will genuinely struggle without the support of you all.

16.01.2022 Jones Street is the leading option available to cost effectively establish a screen production precinct, able to be activated in 6-8 months and take advantage o...f Western Australia’s contained COVID-19 situation, attracting national and international productions actively seeking a safe filming destination. A screen production hub established at the site would be a huge economic boost for the surrounding businesses and all of WA, support industry capacity growth, establish national and international connections. It would be a critical 1st step towards building more comprehensive and future proof world-class facilities that will assist in developing the industry further, allowing it to secure larger scale productions that the eastern states continually stage, deriving considerable economic benefit from federal funding incentives, such as the Location Incentive Program, that Western Australia continues to miss out on. 16.01.2022 Working on some writing has led me to do extra research on a variety of different things, and it's been fascinating. Even something as simple as trying to visualise a chopper led me to this clip done by The Feed on SBS. I find the different lives people choose to lead fascinating, and I love gaining insight into worlds that we don't see day to day. This is an insight into the life of modern day aerial helicopter mustering in outback Australia, and the dangers and joys in being a mustering pilot in our north. https://youtu.be/esBEJbqPjDY

16.01.2022 Another fantastic Festival! Well done to all the team who brought the @swmulticulturalfest to our town once again. Always such a great event to be at! And a fantastic group of people who are passionate about embracing an inclusive community organising it. Great to work with @joartsevents and @totallysoundproductions again managing the stage entertainment for the festival. And with @the_papa_giuseppe and @hope_perth too. I think you’ve been told once or twice that the stage backdrop was, like, you know, pretty good & stuff

10.01.2022 CinefestOZ is a regionally and community focused film festival that is so much more than just screening some new films. There is a strong focus on connecting industry and community and Malinda refers to this in the article. Its also about supporting and building up the WA film industry as well as the reputation of and a respect for WA's regional areas. Exposing filmmakers to area's that could potentially be used as locations for film shoots, creating a positive economic impa...ct to our towns through the filming process and beyond. The CinefestOZ Albany location tour around Albany that took people to the various filming locations of H is for Happiness is a great example of the potential tourism opportunities that come beyond filming. Save the dates for CinefestOZ - August 25-29th 2021. We look forward to bring exciting things to our amazing South West towns. See more

09.01.2022 Joel Jackson is a proud West Australian and one our our most successful export in recent years! Having worked all over the country, Joel's recent work includes ...I Met a Girl and H is for Happiness Film filmed right here in WA! 09.01.2022 This isn’t a new idea, this is a conversation that has been happening and an initiative that the local film industry has been crying out for for years. So it’s very exciting to see it moving forward rather than just being a conversation now. And it really does mean a lot for our local WA employment and economy.

08.01.2022 This is the new film Joel Jackson mentions in the last post I shared here. It looks like it’ll be a really interesting film.

08.01.2022 Lights. Camera. WAction. Our State has a strong history of producing top level screen talent, but we know that WA has so much more to offer for film and... TV production. There's no shortage of unique and beautiful backdrops, and they've already made a few big screen appearances - but the one thing we don't have is a world-class studio in our State. So we've put the call out for proposals to build, locate and operate a screen production facility right here in Western Australia. We've already had several unsolicited proposals to develop screen and studio facilities in WA, but this formal process will help to get it underway and deliver the facilities we need. Specifically, we're looking for a proposal within 20kms of the Perth CBD that would include: a big sound stage between 2,323-3,716 square metres two or three smaller sound stages of at least 929 square metres production offices of around 1,000 square metres two construction workshops of at least 675 square metres each costume, laundry, makeup and hair facilities lock-up storage and at least 3,000 square metres of parking This is part of our Market-led Proposal program, and would be a huge boost for our local screen industry. If you want to find out more, visit the Market-led Proposals website at http://www.wa.gov.au//department-of-f/market-led-proposals

08.01.2022 If you were at the festival on Saturday, please take a moment to complete this survey. It helps planners know what they did well & what could be made even better next year. It’s a community event so community input is important.

08.01.2022 Very exciting to see things moving forward! Make WA film industry great! I mean, we know it's great, but to have the resources available to make it even better is brilliant.

07.01.2022 So wonderful to see some great WA films being recognised at the St Kilda Film Festival. I’ve been lucky enough to view a few of them & meet and work with the filmmakers through CinefestOZ & the Cinesnaps IndigifestOZ program. Can’t wait to see what films make it to our screens in the South West in August! It’s been a tough 12 months for film, so those who have managed to push through and still make great content in the face of Covid, I applaud you! Don’t forget to save the dates for CinefestOZ 2021 - 25th to 29th August 2021.

06.01.2022 When your daughter stumbles across a cute, cheesy little feel good flick on Netflix that you end up watching (and really quite enjoying) only to realise at the end it was in fact directed but the gorgeous lady who was your tutor for a film making unit when you were at uni years ago... very cool to see https://youtu.be/PhLSDnxLp-M

05.01.2022 Supporting expansion of film in W.A. is not just supporting the arts, it’s supporting diversification of our economy. Having multiple ways add to our state economy is good for everyone. It means we don’t rely too heavily on any one industry, and it also means that people who love W.A. can stay in W.A. knowing that they can work in their chosen industry & use their skills & talents. When I went to university a few years ago, I won’t say how many , one of the biggest factors... for me in deciding what path to take was the fact that if I chose to do film then it was basically guaranteed that I would have to leave W.A. if I wanted to that work. I know many people willingly make that choice, but it’s not a choice that we want our fellow West Aussie to HAVE to make. And it just makes no sense to force film industry professionals to leave WA for work. If people stay in W.A. they buy houses here, they pay rates here, they buy products from local businesses, they shop at local supermarkets, they buy from our farmers, and so on and so forth. There is a much bigger picture to look at when you consider the film industry. And, as said here, it IS an industry.

02.01.2022 Whether you love it or hate it, here’s the benefit of WAs hard border closures and our ability to stay on top of Covid so far... live events! Stage managing at the South West Festival of Japan with the Totally Sound team doing what they do best. Well done to the team for organising a great event - Your Turn Events Missed it? Don’t worry. We’ll be back next week & hopefully the weather will be even better! Check out the full program because these lots of cool stuff happening.

02.01.2022 I've been pretty quiet of late, and haven't been posting much on this page at all. Like so many, when Covid hit I was forced to take a step back from work, being that most of my work has been in the events world lately. I was one of the one's who found this forced stop a blessing. A chance to breathe, when normally I would have just kept on swimming had I not been forced to stop, put my head above water and just breathe. I know this wasn't the experience for so many, especia...lly in the Arts sector, but this was the experience for me. I was forced to re-evaluate. And with that re-evaluation was the decision to step back from work for a little while... this year at least. Again, I'm so aware at how blessed I am to have that choice, and I'm so grateful that I've been able to do that. What it's allowed me to do also is spend time on projects that have been in the back of my mind for literally years... finishing that piece of writing, developing that script... those things that I'd kept saying "I'll work on that when I get a chance". Well, I've accidentally made "a chance" for myself. I've just been tinkering and pottering. Nothing too extreme, but it's been enjoyable. And scary. Because it's one thing using your creativity in ways that you've been directed to, creating content for someone else, organising and directing under the banner of someone else's heading. But when you create your OWN stuff, and you are completely controlling the direction that goes in, that's scary. Because that's all you. That's your own soul out there for critiquing. There's no one else to fall back on. I don't know what direction any of that will take, but I'm just enjoying the journey for the time being. I've also been unwell this week (just a cold, but our family has been laying low all week), so it's been another forced time out for us, which has been good (apart from all the snot ). This feels like an overall message for 2020... Stop. Take stock. Re-evaluate. Change course as needed. See more
