15.01.2022 Article Geelong Advertiser - 23 July 2020 - Donation to Kinship Group ARTICLE: FABRIC OF SOCIETY: Mary Wilson, Jan Blyton and Dianne White of the Bellarine Quilters. Picture: ALAN BARBER LOCAL talented quilters have donated more than 30 handmade quilts to kinship carers across the Bellarine Peninsula. The colourful quilts, made by Bellarine Quilters, feature designs such as sea creatures, bees, teddy bears and astronauts.... Bellarine Quilters secretary Dianne White said the group had worked on making the quilts since April, during the COVID-19 lockdown. It was a real team effort, some of the individual quilts involved the work of three or four members, she said. It’s just wonderful to be able to donate these to a group who are helping so many in the community. Kinship carer Jeanette Hanley-Heath launched the Bellarine Support Group for Kinship Carers in 2015 to assist those caring full time for grandchildren or other relatives. The group now supports 80 children, aged from seven months to 18 years, from 43 kinship families across the region. Ms Hanley-Heath said the group supported grandparents or other carers, such as cousins and siblings, who cared for children when they could not live with their parents. She said the quilts would provide something special for the kids and their carers. See more

11.01.2022 Jeanette from Kinship Carers attended the meeting on Monday and we presented her with 40 quills and 2 crochet knee rugs. All these wonderful quilts have been made by our lovely members whilst in lock down. What an amazing achievement and we thank all of those ladies who contributed. Needless to say, Jeanette was blown away by our generosity and assured us they will be gratefully received.

07.01.2022 Due to LOCKDOWN there are currently no meetings or get togethers. I hope all our Quilting Community and friends are safe and well. Once we can meet again, it will be posted. Until then, stay safe and well Dianne. Photo of a Comfort Quilt recently donated to Bellarine Kinship Group
