15.01.2022 We are excited to share that this afternoon Brett Robins, one of our crew leaders was announced as the winner of the Rio Tinto Gender Diversity Champion in Australia Award, at the Women in Resources National Awards hosted by the Minerals Council of Australia. This award recognises an employee within their company or the Australian Resource Sector for their advocacy, encouragement and promotion for the attraction and retention of females. Brett started work at Bell Bay Alum...inium 25 years ago when only a handful of women worked at the smelter, fast forward to 2020 there are close to 80 women who are part of the workforce. Over the last two years, Brett has been instrumental in developing initiatives, including introducing a range of women's clothing, boots and safety equipment specifically for female employees. I have two daughters and I want them to be able to work in whatever career they choose, without having to overcome challenges and obstacles that many males do not have to face. This drives me to work hard, with my employer and in our industry, to remove barriers to females who join our workforce and have ambition to succeed. - Brett. Congratulations Brett, we are extremely proud of your passion for diversity and inclusion at Bell Bay Aluminium.

The smelter holds a unique place in Tasmanian and Australian history as the first aluminium smelter in the Southern Hemisphere primarily established to overcome difficulties importing this essential metal during wartime. It is a tribute to the men and women who have worked at the smelter over the past six and half decades that Bell Bay continues to produce primary aluminium for use i...n products which have changed the way we live. The journey has provided many challenges but through it all our employees have remained resilient, innovative, resourceful and committed. Today we produce around 190,000 tonnes of aluminium mainly for overseas markets and enjoy a hard fought reputation for quality products and reliability!
