23.01.2022 Public Health Alert Community members on Brisbane’s southside are asked to remain alert but not alarmed as Queensland records three new cases of novel cor...onavirus (COVID-19). The first case is a 19-year-old woman who tested positive after travelling interstate last week. She is an employee at Parklands Christian College on Brisbane’s southside. Queensland Health is working closely with the school which has temporarily closed until further notice. The second case is a 19-year-old female travel companion. Both cases travelled interstate together last week. It is believed they contracted the virus in Melbourne, Victoria. The third reported case is a known close contact, a 22-year-old woman, who tested positive later today. This individual is an employee of YMCA Chatswood Hills Outside School Hours Care. Queensland Health is working closely with the school and the care centre, both of which have temporarily closed until further notice. 09.01.2022 Face masks can be a useful measure to help control sustained community transmission. Sustained community transmission is when we have multiple cases of locally acquired COVID-19 where contact tracing and testing is unable to identify how the person was infected. At the moment, there is no evidence to suggest that Queensland has any sustained community transmission. If you live in the greater region of Brisbane, a face mask might be suitable if: You are in a situation where ...social distancing cannot be maintained, i.e. public transport or a busy shopping centre If your GP has told you to wear one If you are caring for someone who has COVID-19 If you are attending a GP clinic, hospital or ED If you are sick and getting a COVID-19 test Face masks alone will not protect you from COVID-19.
