23.01.2022 MAJOR CONSTRUCTION WORKS BEGIN IN SHOALWATER BAY TRAINING AREA WITH TWO NEW WORK CONTRACTS Today, we are witnessing the end of the design phase for Shoalw...ater Bay Training Area expansion and the commencement of major construction works. This includes permanent facilities for the project providing defence training outcomes, as well as accommodation and logistics support. This work will see approximately 20 employees onsite as civil bulk earthworks get underway. Laing O'Rourke is currently reviewing 10 subcontractor packages worth $100 million, with numerous additional packages in the pipeline. The workforce is expected to peak at 450 people, mid to late next year, with 23 subcontract packages so far have been awarded to locals. Two more contracts worth more than $10 million have been recently awarded for works on site. Bellequip Civil Contractors has been awarded more than $6 million to undertake a contract involving civil bulk earthworks. An Indigenous-endorsed company contract worth $3.9 million has been awarded to On Country Workforce for labour-hire. This will involve logistical and site maintenance services on-site and support local employment.
