23.01.2022 On Thursday we had the pleasure of having Rainbow Eagle come to the centre as part of our Naidoc week celebrations. Rainbow Eagle is a charismatic performer and storyteller who encourages sustainability and respect for the land and animals in our environment. His use of music and puppetry give children a deeper understanding of how to be responsible caretakers of our land and respect for the natural world. Thank you Rainbow Eagle!

22.01.2022 Recently Allie brought in her wood burner to create this wonderful sign for our worm farm. The children added to the sign by drawing pictures of foods the worms can and can't eat. These were laminated and added to the sign next to either a cross or tick. This is a great visual for the children and gives them a sense of agency as they can see how their work is valued.

22.01.2022 I (Heidi) recently won a grant to attend the ACEL (Australian Council for Educational Leaders) Early Childhood Conference on the 9th and 10th of August. The conference was an amazing opportunity to be inspired and connect with industry organisations, influential professionals and other educators from across Australia and beyond. I came away with so much information and so many ideas! Part of winning the grant meant that i got to meet the NSW minister for early childhood education Sarah Mitchell and have my photo taken with the other grant recipients. It really was a wonderful experience :)

21.01.2022 Pendulum painting!! So much fun exploring gravity, force, motion, creativity and colour mixing through this experience.

18.01.2022 Drought Conversations With ideas from families and children we have come up with a great idea to help out drought ridden areas and farmers in NSW. We are asking families to bring in their recycling to Burrows. We will then take these recyclable to the ‘Return and Earn’ recycling depot near the high school. All of the money collected will be donated to the ‘Buy a Bale’ charity. The depot will take recyclable plastic, glass, and aluminium. All original labels must be on the con...tainers (the machine scans the barcodes). No wine bottles, no spirit bottle, and no milk containers will be accepted by the machine. For those of you who don’t have and recyclables to bring in, you are welcome to bring in non-perishable items to donate to the farmers. We will leave the donation box near the front gate of Burrows. Thank you in advance for your participation towards this great cause :) Written in collaboration with the children and Educators at Burrows See more

15.01.2022 Throughout the last week the children have been involved in several experiences for Reconciliation Week. We have explored both the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, learnt a new song about similarities and differences among people, looked at a range of art and created hands to symbolise togetherness and belonging. On Friday a group of children went for a walk into town to help create a display and show our respect for Reconciliation week. Our display of hands is near Black Bear cafe in one of the garden beds. This experiences not only assists in broadening children's perspective on diversity and reconciliation, it also build connections to the wider local community which is important for children as they connect with the world around them.

09.01.2022 It has been a joy watching the children create this beautiful piece of art for the centre. Collaborative art projects can be challenging for children so seeing their work come together and become something beautiful is an exciting discovery. The construction of this recycled art created a sense of wonder on Friday as the carefully painted pieces were glued to the canvas. We live how it turned out. What do you think? 05.01.2022 We had some super cute visitors at burrows today. Vanessa is hand raising these ducklings after they were rejected from their mother. The children learned all about how to care for the ducklings, becoming more aware of some of the responsibilities of being a pet owner. This led to the children sharing their own experiences looking after animals, creating a connection between home and the centre.

04.01.2022 With winter visiting us, lots of citrus is coming into season. We're lucky to have one of the families giving us lots of mandarins and we decided to use some of these in a great cooking experience making mandarin cake! Sooooo delicious! It was a big hit with the children! Come ask for a recipe if you would like one :)

01.01.2022 We had so much fun taking apart an old Dyson vacuum cleaner this arvo. So much discovery, hypothesise, inquiry and fine motor skills required. Some if the children then wanted to turn the parts if the vacuum into a robot. We think he looks pretty awesome!!
